I really wish they'd make a sequel to the Saboteur.

BlackTar1873771d ago

Dude me too. I had so much fun platinum that game even when i was overwhelmed by all the demo objects it was still worth the time. I also loved the cars.

shivvy243770d ago

resistance 3 and spec ops the line were underrated imo

indysurfn3770d ago

I usually don't like these lists. But the inclusion of OD makes me respect what they are saying about the games admittedly I didn't play. So I have to agree with this list and start shopping for 3 of them. Nice list.

PX543770d ago

@shivvy24 - although i couldn't get into it myself, even Yahtzee of The Escapist & Zero Punctuation fame says Spec Ops is a surprisingly good game and he's pretty hard to please.

sobekflakmonkey3770d ago (Edited 3770d ago )

The saboteur was good, but the black and white thing really bothered me, there was really no need for it and it took away from the beauty of the game when it was in full colour, that being said though, we do need another one, it was almost like a sequel (or prequel) to freedom fighters, that of which was a game I adored.

Also, I think Lost Odyssey was a good choice for this list as well, amazing game, we need more RPG's that play like that, I miss them.

Kidmyst3770d ago

@shivvy24- Spec Ops the line was a solid play, got it free with PS Plus. The decisions made leading up to alternative ending and the AI needed some work but that Platinum was a tough earn.

zeee3770d ago

I am not sure about underrated but one title that should have sold a hell lot more copies was Valkyria Chronicles.

i wish someone would release a patch that would allow Saboteur to work on newer computers

robtion3770d ago (Edited 3770d ago )

Sequel would be tough given the setting. The saboteur 2 set in world war 3? ;)

I loved the Saboteur and spent so much time playing it. I have recommended it so many times and have currently lent it to my brother-in-law.

pat_11_53770d ago

It doesn't need to be set during a new war. Just set it in the eastern front, or in another country. The options are limitless.

robtion3770d ago

Yeah but there is only one Paris. A lot of the charm of the game was the French setting.

Callediceman3770d ago

@shivvy24 spec ops the line was a great game ... i would love a sequel

HammerKong3770d ago

lost oddysey and saboteur were great games realy great games ,i dont know why people dont played that games but they were fun to play and story was great ,far cry is ok but still deserves more than this this and mafia 2 i think many people played it but people forget it soon ,i played it whole and that game was far far better than gta4 and was a great comptitor to rad dead redemption story was also very great and gameplay was fun and city was also designed very well but it is listed on this list i realyu doubt it and i'an not a jrpg fan so i cant say anythink about ni no kuni.

FunkMacNasty3770d ago

I am so happy Far Cry 2 finally got some love! Still one of my absolute favorite games of previous generation. I know people were not happy with the respawning enemy checkpoints, but that was a small complaint given the vastness and detail of the open world, along with the many creative ways and open ended gameplay - there were limitless ways to complete missions in FC2

FC3 was great as well, but in my opinion FC2 was better.

GameSpawn3770d ago

A sequel would be nice, but sadly this was Pandemic's last hurrah. What a way to go, right?

Why is it some of the best games come from companies that get shut down?

This and Kingdoms of Amalur are a couple of my favorite games that were actually a lot better than people gave them credit for and both developers are now gone, coincidentally both games were published via EA (not that they're necessarily responsible).

Back-to-Back3770d ago

Other than Ni No Kuni these are some really bad games.

TheXgamerLive3770d ago (Edited 3770d ago )

Me too. Sadly Saboteur was their last game the studio closed dwn so unless somone else buys the rights to it, its gone.
Climbing up the eifel tower to jump off for that achivement had me shaking hahaha

I don't know how Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is underrated as it received critical aclaim by the critics. Sure it may have no done well in the sales department but that doesn't mean it was underated. More overlooked.

Also Far Cry 2 we a bad game. Sure it had excellent parts and ideas but it was extremely buggy. One bug killed the story and made me have a 6 month Hiatus (until I found out how to fix it). The malaria mechanic didn't work well and the driving between missions was annoying (though it is the only instant where I have been scared playing a video game. Walking in the jungle then you hear a car. I craped my self everytime)

Necro_5593770d ago

Actually Ni No Kuni sold well, real well.

iamnsuperman3770d ago

Really. I was just under the impression (because of the article) it didnt

calis3770d ago

I got the game breaking bug where the door wouldn't open to the next part of the map.

Tried all things to fix it but never worked.
Gave up after that.

iamnsuperman3770d ago

That was the bug. You had to uninitial a patch. Then get the motor. Set up the motor and then turn through the wall (the patch stopped this glitch happening). I don't think they ever fixed the game breaking bug but that is how I got into that building

calis3770d ago

This information would have been awesome 5 years ago. lol.

Thanks though :)

Knushwood Butt3770d ago

Far Cry 2 is one of the most immersive games to date. It does have issues, but I loved it.

Ubisoft's post-release support is terrible. They never patch these games. Far Cry 3 was no better. I played the online co-op to pieces but it crashed often. Ubisoft NEVER patched it. I sold it a while back, but I bet it is just the same.

indysurfn3770d ago

@thecowsaysmoo What are you doing? Your information isnt even correct you only list one game for PS4 and it is from the ps3? I have that game FREE from ps-Plus thank you. And most of the games you listed for xbox one are NOT out for it. I noticed you didn't list the best looking next generation game Killzone.

So how are they underrated games from previous generation?

zeal0us3770d ago

Shadows of the Damned was pretty decent game. Though I do wish it would've lasted longer.

Knushwood Butt3770d ago

It was good for 2 play throughs, but even I (a fan of the game) found the third play through something of a chore.

EA Sends Classic Titles To Steam

This is a nice collection of classic. EA has opened its vaults and released a series of classic PC games to Steam for the first time ever.

Garethvk39d ago

I wish we had a new Command and Conquer.

Vits39d ago

f you haven't already, consider getting 8-Bit Armies or the new 9-Bit Armies. They're made by some of the same folks from the older C&C, with very similar mechanics; it's just the aesthetics that are completely different.

TheColbertinator39d ago

C&C Red Alert 3 and The Saboteur were two different yet completely unforgettable games to me from a better era of EA.

UltimateOwnage39d ago

Super stoked, excellent pricing too. SteamDeck library+++

Phoenix7639d ago

I loved the Populas games back in the Amiga days. Will have to download these

Lost Odyssey Is Still One Of The Best Xbox RPGs Ever

17 years later, it still stands out.

shinoff218361d ago

I liked blue dragon more. Lost odyssey is the shit though.

jznrpg61d ago

Two of the few games I still own for Xbox360 . I have Magna Carta 2 , Last Remnant but also have the PS4 version so I may have got rid of it and I have the DS version of Blue Dragon. I think and a few others but I forget what they are since I don’t dust them off. that’s about it.

shinoff218361d ago (Edited 61d ago )

Another one I still havent got to try is infinite undiscovery. I read it was pretty linear but I usually fk with tri ace(star oceans are great).

Really my only issue with lost odyssey was the level cap they hit you with throughout the game. I enjoy just relaxing and doing some grinding every once in awhile. Could've atleast given the option. Other then that. Excellent game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The 360 imo had atleast half or more that Gen of being the better jrpg system. I bought one earlier then I normally would have for some, and Alan wake. Japanese devs really got in their feelings that Gen and dropped the ball(thanks Phil phish, cocky ass ign, etc)

darthv7261d ago

You'd be better off playing Lost Odyssey on an XBO or Series X as no disc swapping and it looks and plays much better. Same with Blue Dragon. I still keep my 360 hooked up for games not on the bc list. for everything else, I use the series x now. Just last night I installed arkham origins as there is no 8th gen version like asylum/city.

I love having bc on xbox one/series hardware.

shinoff218360d ago

Darth

When I bought the the Xbox one off a couple worker. That was the first thing indid. Bought blue dragon and lost odyssey. Been waiting to catch infinite undiscovery on sale but I forget to check.

I used to own the 360 versions but I bought these digital. I'd like to track down the 360 ones again but no huge deal. I was actually playing through lost odyssey waiting for starfield to drop.

RaidenBlack61d ago

Is Lost Odyssey coming to PS, too?

cthulhucultist61d ago

The game was indeed amazing. Great characters, gameplay and story!

But the dream sequences penned by Shigematsu were sublime.

I still remember many of these stories and I have integrated in the past in my D&D campaign many years ago.

RpgSama61d ago

I'm not going to lie, I cried on more than on a couple of them

Dabigsiebowski61d ago

Microsoft should have just kept pumping money into these guys. Same with a lot of the other studios... the blundered hard.

Lost Odysee deserved a franchise even though development wasn't smooth

Michiel198961d ago

Am I the only one who doesn't wanna see every good game get sequel after sequel? It was a great game, but sometimes it's better to just make a one off and then create a new universe. Sadly that costs a lot more money and publishers don't wanna risk it, but I would definitely prefer it

shinoff218361d ago

I'm fine with sequels in jrpgs, even in the vain of ff sequels, all new stories and characters. It does get old in other genres though sometimes. For the most part I just game by game basis it all.

FinalFantasyFanatic61d ago

They could have done it like Final Fantasy, kept the title name and just start with a new world/characters, it's not like the creator isn't familar with that.

Concertoine61d ago

Idk, Japan never bit for Xbox despite their best efforts around this era. Mistwalker never exploded either, despite future partnerships with Nintendo whichhad a much better chance at success

BrainSyphoned61d ago

It's not like it has had any competition since 2007. Would really like to own the short stories from it in book form.

PapaBop61d ago

360 had some amazing JRPGs in it's early days, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia off the top of my head were all amazing games.

jznrpg61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

The problem with most MS games on 360 was they didn’t make the games they paid for them and that makes you less money in the long run and isn’t something you can continue to do especially with declining sales of consoles. MS should have been starting and growing studios from the beginning but they went for paid games and it leaves them without the knowledge and culture of making games.

shinoff218361d ago

Good points. Never thought of that like that back then.

Sgt_Slaughter61d ago

Not to mention killing the Japanese market that had all sorts of crazy and fun releases up until 2009-2010. They could have gained momentum on Nintendo and kept that going into the Xbox One era, but decided to "unify" efforts and that all but ended their presents in the country. Now, PS4's outsell the Xbox Series S three years into the new system's life cycle, and the 2/3DS at one point was doing the same.

Where the Heck is Ni No Kuni 3, Mun?

Matt from We Game Daily writes: "Cross Worlds isn’t going away. It’s making a small fortune, particularly in Asian markets, so there’s no reason for Level-5 to pull the plug. That said, there’s no real reason why a full PC/console sequel can’t be developed alongside efforts to support Cross Worlds."

While Ni no Kuni 3 would be cool, if it was like the first game, where is Dark Cloud 3 and Rogue Galaxy 2?

phoenixwing91d ago

I thought the dev recently went mobile and Japan only. They shut down their American offices. So don't expect anything for consoles

shinoff218391d ago (Edited 91d ago )

I swear they just announced a few new games.

https://www.nintendolife.co...

phoenixwing91d ago

I stand corrected then. Never heard about these games and also i just remember ni no kuni online being mobile only.

Michiel198990d ago

they said a loooooong time ago that Level 5 was working on a new installment but there has been no news since afaik. I just hope that they take more inspiration from 1 than 2, especially when it comes to the story.

thorstein90d ago

Ni No Kuni Cross Worlds is the mobile game you're thinking of.

It looks amazing but I don't like to play mobile games.

Yeah the sequel was okay but had nothing on the first game, especially the battle system.

The story just didn't have that charm and even the twist at the end of the game wasn't really anything cool like Wrath of the White Witch.

Also the fact there was like ZERO mention of Oliver or his adventures in the game, no references, nothing was such weird. It's set a hundred or so years after but still, I'd have expected to seen some throw backs. I think we just got like a temple with his statue in it or something.

goldwyncq90d ago

If you want more Oliver, just watch the movie.

shinoff218391d ago

Fking word. I've been hoping for this for quite some time.

melons91d ago

The premium games didn't sell amazingly, right?

shinoff218390d ago

Not to sure. They should of though. They were pretty good. I like both.

Michiel198990d ago

yeah, especially outside of japan. They should have released on pc at the same time as the ps3 version or a short time after.

Inverno90d ago

They should've worked with Ghibli to put out a proper movie. Should've also made a Pokemon-esque spin-off rather than make Yokai Watch. If they do make a third game they gotta work with Ghibli!
