TLOU is a great example. They took a risk and it paid off.Hell a lot of people say it's their Game Of The Generation.

Let's see what SOny has in store for the PS4 as New IP'S.Let's get some RPG'S in there SOny.

BullyMangler3776d ago

but thats the thing, a new IP does not guarantee new gameplay. take the last of US for example, new IP SAME gameplay. Veteran gamers are not easily impressed.

Just look at the new Mario world for wiiU, same IP, but NEW INVENTIVE CREATIVE never before seen gameplay mechanics.

Sony needs to stop trying to trick noobs by saying "we offer new IP's unlike the competition" . because a veteran gamer knows that new IP does not mean new gameplay.

GarrusVakarian3776d ago (Edited 3776d ago )

New gameplay isn't the only aspect of a new IP. What i want from a new IP is new characters to get attached too, new game worlds/universes to get attached too, a good story to get attached too.

Please don't compare Super Mario with TLOU.....

MONKEYDLUFFY3776d ago

Paraphrasing Shigeru Miyamoto: new characters do not make a game new. We start with new gameplay ideas and pick the characters that are best suited to the game

Clover9043776d ago

Lol, same gameplay? There has never been a multiplayer experience like it. I'd argue with you, but your trolling has left you with only one bubble.

grassyknoll3776d ago

Sony are committed to new game ideas. Games like Journey, Shadow of the Colossus, Unfinished Swan, Sound Shapes, LBP, Rain etc would never appear on any other console.

Razjin3776d ago

Mario is the worst example to use for being creative.

MrCrimson3776d ago

That's just one aspect of IP. What you are referring to is trademark which is as some of the other people said not the entire story.

SilentNegotiator3776d ago

" take the last of US for example, new IP SAME gameplay"

As usual, you're trying way too hard. In what parallel universe does it have the "SAME" gameplay?

ShinMaster3776d ago

New Super Mario Bros DS, Wii, 3DS and Wii U are like COD games.

TLOU is not the "SAME" gameplay. Different gameplay elements and mechanics, story, plot, characters, theme.

sAVAge_bEaST3776d ago (Edited 3776d ago )

@bullymang7er

-SIMILAR- a far stretch.

-SAME- , what other ND game emphasized stealth and crafting..? please explain.

FANTA11803775d ago

its apparent that sony likes to play it safe.

its also apparent they like to release games a year after their release date , i have yet to see any new footage of" the last guardian".

maybe on my death bed.

DigitalHope3775d ago

We live in a time of recycling ideas. New gameplay is hard to find these days and we have a tendency to chastise those who try to invent new gameplay through means other than a screen, console, and standard controller.

New IPs bring new stories, characters and adventures while tweaking the gameplay we already love. We don't need crazy new gameplay you'll hate anyways. Just new methods of implementing what we already love.

Loadedklip3775d ago

The people disagreeing with you are fans of watching "movie" games and not real games.

frostypants3775d ago

I've played every console back to the NES. TLoU is unique.

To be fair, Naughty Dog could've went to the Sony executives with a picture of a Shark and a Dog fighting evil together, and would've gotten a green light.

rainslacker3776d ago

Sony actually asked ND to changed Uncharted into what it was. They originally wanted to do something more fantasy oriented.

However, I believe over the course of the generation, ND has a lot more say so in their games than they used to. But in the end they are still owned and run by Sony.

lonewolfjedi3776d ago

music to my hears but have to see this in action

GarrusVakarian3776d ago (Edited 3776d ago )

We already have seen this action for the past 2 decades almost....where have you been? Sony has always been very committed, invested and supporting of their IP's....they don't just throw money at them like other companies do.

I can guarantee that at the end of this generation the PS4 will have more and better IP's than the competition, just like the PS3 did.

robtion3776d ago

I agree but Sony needs to show us this. At the moment there is barely anything announced outside of The Order:1886, and there's little info on that.

I know things will improve with time but I have a ps4 now. Give me something to get excited about, e3 is too far away.

Spurg3776d ago

loool...we are getting a guarantee from a nobody from N4G board.

Underestimating the competition will make Sony dumb down the amount of exclusives. Of course I will not say it a guarantee like an idiot.

lonewolfjedi3776d ago (Edited 3776d ago )

yes I know and agree with you. im still waiting on the last guardian. sometimes their ip's dont get enough publicity or advertisement like puppeteer great game and tear away which will be one the first games I get for the vita.

what's with all the dislikes? I just think actions speak louder than words

KillrateOmega3776d ago (Edited 3776d ago )

Look out everyone, we got Spurg "My Butt Is In Agony" McBad*** over here calling people nobodies and idiots.

God forbid that someone use certain words in his presence.

arbitor3653776d ago

this is factual. sony brought out more quality new IPs this gen than anyone else. period.

ltachiUchiha3776d ago

Exactly. Proof in the pudding is why are most indie devs flocking to the ps4 then the one? Its because sony gives devs more freedom with new ip's where microsoft will most likely pass on alot of these new projects if they feel it wont sell. Alan Wake & Lost Odyssey are proof that if new ip's dont sell, dont expect a sequel any time soon compared to gears & halo & forza which had many sequels in the 360 life span.

TheFallenAngel3776d ago

That's why I chose Playstation over any other console. The best games are always on Playstation.

pyramidshead3776d ago

You won't get as much variety anywhere else to be fair.

On my personal gaming variety situation, hoping to get Puppeteer for Christmas. Let's hope I've been a good lil thread poster this year ;).

PlayStation: The First 25 Years

The path from the PlayStation 1 to the upcoming PlayStation 5 lines up neatly, but only if you’re looking at it numerically. In actuality, for more than 25 years the PlayStation team has had to navigate some of the industry’s most difficult terrain. During that time, a dedicated team of visionaries, engineers, and software developers established a brand from scratch, propelled it to unprecedented heights, struggled to maintain dominance, and eventually returned to what initially made them so successful.

They sure do and the PS4/Pro and Switch are proof of this!

FallenAngel19842201d ago

I still remember how the misinformed media tried to push a doom and gloom narrative for the future of consoles at the beginning of the decade

Tsar4ever012201d ago

Didn't even notice it earlier but PlayStation already has it's own GAAS as part of it's PSN service model. It's "Free-to-Play" games & "Streaming", ala PSNow as part of it's "Adaptive Monetization ", according to Ex-PlayStation Boss Andrew House.

PhoenixUp2201d ago

Consoles have successfully existed for the past 46 years and they’ll successor exist for the next 46 years.

“Former PlayStation CEO Andrew House's Stirring Farewell: "PlayStation Has Always Been About Games"

I’m really going to miss this guy. Thank you for your help bringing PlayStation to where it is today.

NewMonday2324d ago (Edited 2324d ago )

a most fitting farewell, big thanks and good luck to Mr.Andrew House.

if MS want to save the XBox brand they have the perfect man available. and get rid of the trolls like Greenberg/Penello/Nelson and the guy who only talks the talk Phil Spencer.

morganfell2324d ago

But he isn't stepping down, he is stepping up. He is being promoted.

morganfell2324d ago

https://www.sie.com/en/corp...

Announced on the same day people started blabbing he was leaving.

"John Kodera promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer, Andrew House to be appointed Chairman"

Ashlen2324d ago

"Current President and Global CEO Andrew House will transition from operational management of SIE, but will remain with SIE as Chairman through the year to ensure a smooth transition."

He is ending his time at SIE at the end of the year. He hasn't announced any future plans. It's unfortunate I liked him a lot as well, but the reality is he is leaving Sony either to retire or take up a new career somewhere else.

morganfell2324d ago

@Ashlen,

Thanks for that clarification. He will certainly be missed. He stayed through a not so pleasant time when others might have bailed. Great guy with a lot of insight.

Zeke682324d ago

Actually he is taking over Sony Pictures at 2019.
