Sony: We're More Committed To New IP Than Other Publishers

Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House has spoken out to boast that his company is more committed to creating new intellectual properties than others, though he did not name any names.

Let's see what SOny has in store for the PS4 as New IP'S.Let's get some RPG'S in there SOny.

but thats the thing, a new IP does not guarantee new gameplay. take the last of US for example, new IP SAME gameplay. Veteran gamers are not easily impressed.

Just look at the new Mario world for wiiU, same IP, but NEW INVENTIVE CREATIVE never before seen gameplay mechanics.

Sony needs to stop trying to trick noobs by saying "we offer new IP's unlike the competition" . because a veteran gamer knows that new IP does not mean new gameplay.

New gameplay isn't the only aspect of a new IP. What i want from a new IP is new characters to get attached too, new game worlds/universes to get attached too, a good story to get attached too.

We live in a time of recycling ideas. New gameplay is hard to find these days and we have a tendency to chastise those who try to invent new gameplay through means other than a screen, console, and standard controller.

New IPs bring new stories, characters and adventures while tweaking the gameplay we already love. We don't need crazy new gameplay you'll hate anyways. Just new methods of implementing what we already love.

Sony actually asked ND to changed Uncharted into what it was. They originally wanted to do something more fantasy oriented.

However, I believe over the course of the generation, ND has a lot more say so in their games than they used to. But in the end they are still owned and run by Sony.

We already have seen this action for the past 2 decades almost....where have you been? Sony has always been very committed, invested and supporting of their IP's....they don't just throw money at them like other companies do.

I can guarantee that at the end of this generation the PS4 will have more and better IP's than the competition, just like the PS3 did.

Exactly. Proof in the pudding is why are most indie devs flocking to the ps4 then the one? Its because sony gives devs more freedom with new ip's where microsoft will most likely pass on alot of these new projects if they feel it wont sell. Alan Wake & Lost Odyssey are proof that if new ip's dont sell, dont expect a sequel any time soon compared to gears & halo & forza which had many sequels in the 360 life span.

I really wish Microsoft had this approach, especially with Alan Wake. I get the impression from Sam Lakes interviews that Microsoft didn't want to fund them if they did a sequel, they wanted a new game which hopefully would sell more instead of letting them improve on the franchise with a sequel.

The goal for Quantum Break is what they were aiming for with Alan Wake. We need a sequel with the cliff hanger ending.

Exactly, which is really unfortunate. I absolutely loved Alan Wake, but Microsoft didn't let it grow. Just look at games like InFamous and Uncharted. I don't believe either one heated up the sales charts. But Sony saw the foundation of those games and built on it, resulting in huge advancements in IF 2 and Uncharted 2. I believe Alan Wake had the recipe for a potential franchise had it had a chance to build on its foundation.

Quantum Break looks amazing. Despite Microsoft not supporting Alan Wake, it does look like they recognize the talent they have under their umbrella. And with Microsoft's attempt to keep up with Sony with exclusives I'm sure they'll throw all their support behind Remedy.

As for why they are still with Microsoft, as far as I know Microsoft pays the bills and funds Remedy projects. So though Remedy are not first party, you won't be seeing Alan Wake or Quantum Break on any other console. Hopefully QB comes to PCs like AW.

Oh you mean the same old stories like saving a princess who's been captured for the 100th time by the same old villain and the guy has to go rescue her AGAIN with the exact same types of layouts with each levels/worlds...or what about the story of a hero who is asked again by the pricess to save the kingdom and the world when an evil approaches where he has to go into a ton of dungeons fighting the big boss at the end to get an item which will coincidently help him in the next dungeon.

Sony exclusives consist of way more than just shooters. And even then their shooters are different from ordinary shooters.

U say that but u love metroid which is basically the same ole person saving the world. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy nintendo games as much as any other person who grew up playing mario & zelda but the truth is as u grow more mature, those games are still fun to play but for me, i moved on to playstation & xbox because atleast they had new ip's that i wanted to try out. I just feel that despite nintendo being around all these years, they lack in new ip's department. They need to start making new franchises instead of the same franchises with different settings. I know ppl will call me out for that but I honestly think that is a big reason the wii u has been doing bad sales wise. U cant honestly think that these same franchises will always pull u out of a jam especially when their competition is offering more bang for your buck. Fortunately Alan Wake 2 is codenamed 37GX1W , these files were registered by Microsoft in 2012 April on the OGP , the project isn't yet executed so don't get your hopes up for now , eventually when it enters the second stage (OEP) , in that case the development will start so expect like a 2017 release , they'll end Quantum Break and after like a month of celebration I believe they'll begin developing Alan Wake 2 , after all Quantum Break was codenamed AA3X9Q and that was registered by Microsoft in 2011 February

Sony nails a balance between keeping the old at heart and the new in mind. Sony's first-party studios are usually the biggest examples. Look at the PS3: Uncharted, Infamous and Resistance right out of the launch gate, with The Last of Us at the tail end and The Order for PS4 in the works.

While I'm yearning for a potential Crash Bandicoot revival, I'm equally as excited for The Order. Bring it on, Sony.

InFamous Second Son The Order 1886 Uncharted Driveclub,Rime,Shadow of the Beast,Everybody's Gone into the Rapture, and SOMA. Plus Sony's studios like Media Molecyle ,Santa Monica Studios,Quantic Dream,and Guerrilla Games have confirmed that they are making new PS4 IP's. AAA games needs time. At least 2 yrs time to complete. They don't just pop-up for your convenience Your expectation is terribly high and unrealistic. Even PC games which is the easiest to make takes just as long as on consoles to complete. Even fruits takes time to grow on tress.
Sony has already showed us their games next year and there are more to come from both east and west.

This is why PS has always been my primary platform since I was a kid and got a PS2. They always bring variety in their exclusives. And aren't afraid to try something new and different. Generation after Generation they bring new amazing IP's. I got my first PS2 when I was about 6 and got a PS3 when I was 11. And now that I'm 17 I bought my PS4 on launch because I know Sony has the best exclusives. Xbots think they have the games now. When they know MS never keeps up with exclusives.

Sony has demonstrated to me last gen that they are highly interested in making brand new IPs all gen.

And not 3rd party timed exclusive IPS, but 1st party supported quality AAA IPs.

Which is a major reason I went with PS4.

Sony do win for exclusives but they are sometimes arguably overkill (e.g. they'll have 2 games of similar gameplay type).

Microsoft are unpredictable in output and their most interesting games often don't sell all that well. It might partly explain why Kinect became a focus for them. But they need to get some Nintendo-like wacky Kinect games- Microsoft are becoming a bit too middle America staid.

I think people overrate the value of a new IP.

What about an existing franchise that actually brings something new like Mario Galaxy. What if instead of Mario Galaxy ... Nintendo called it Luma Galaxy instead ... same gameplay as Mario Galaxy but no Mario theme/characters ... could have been a new franchise if they wanted to. Or how about Kid Ikaris 3DS ... plays nothing like the original ... also could have been a new franchise. How about if Luigi's Mansion was actually Ghost Hunters ... or a Ghostbusters license game? Nope ... its just another "Mario" game according to vocal fans online.

I think I just care more about new experiences ... not necessarily new IPs. People put too much stock on new IPs that play exactly like current, existing IPs.

Sony really are too. If you compare PS1, PS2 and PS3 to the competition, that really becomes quite clear. Even PS Vita is actually doing quite well in the new IP department, with Tearaway, Sound Shapes and Gravity Rush being great examples of that.
