Analyst: Xbox One Likely to do Best in North America

PlayStation 4 may be the quickest-selling console in industry history, but Microsoft’s Xbox One kept it competitive, selling a staggering two million units in 18 days, officially making it the second quickest-selling console ever released.

“The Xbox One is a system that is likely to do much better in North America than the rest of the world”

To be fair, lots of people were speculating that PS4 would rule in N.A. I think when NPD shows the sales numbers, the reality that X1 has already passed PS4 in N.A will be clear.

GameNameFame3786d ago (Edited 3786d ago )

Pappy the reality is that you are in a bubble of denial and desperation.

This article is not even about PS4 and Xbox One.

Gaming1013785d ago

The article is about the x-bone doing better in NA than in Japan and Europe, it has nothing to do with a comparison with PS4. Sales numbers are already in and PS4 is outselling the x-bone by an extremely wide margin in most regions.

ShinMaster3785d ago (Edited 3785d ago )

@ Bigpappay

Xbox One doing better in N.A. than the rest of the world and Xbox One doing better in N.A. than the PS4 are two different things.

The article isn't even comparing it with the PS4.

NewMonday3785d ago

@Bigpappy

do you honestly believe that ?!

"least worse" is the better term to describe the XBone fortunes in USA.

ravinash3785d ago

If the reports are anything to go by, the onl thing holding the PS4 back in it's sales is the stock.
So it's a bit hard to tell how much demand there is if they can't make enough to cover the sales and preorders.

once there is enough stock so that they are staying on the shelves, then we can start looking into who is selling the best and which is more in demand.

tigertom533785d ago

It been pretty clear that Microsoft has been providing more consoles to North America then Sony. Sony has been sending more consoles into other regions for their released while Microsoft seems to be more focused on small amount of regions. Talking to store they have been getting a larger and more steady supply of X1 Consoles good example of that was black Friday which stores had 4 to 1 over Sony system...

tigertom533785d ago

Second week US sales are also in. The PlayStation 4 was severely supply constrained, which accounts for its big drop off. There was just 86,654 PS4's sold in its second week. That brings the total sales to 1,070,866 in the first two weeks. There were 306,507 Xbox One's sold in its second week. That brings the total sales to 1,039,076.

Biggest3785d ago

I hope that everyone is reading the statement. It says that the Xbone will do better in NA than IT will in the rest of the world. It doesn't say that the Xbone will do better in NA than THEY will. It is comparing the Xbone in NA to the Xbone in the rest of the world.

Don't be silly, folks. This is not a claim in favor of the Xbone over anyone but the Xbone.

ps4 will win US...its just saying x1 will sell the most in the US...not more than ps4..smh. kinda like ps4 will sell the most in japan between it and x1.
man sombody give this guy a towel.

UnholyLight3785d ago

Article says North America. Doesn't that include Canada??

Where I'm at in Canada they didn't do a midnight launch for PS4 because apparently there wasn't the same demand as for Xbox One. At least that's what I was told when I asked why PS4 wasn't going to be a midnight launch. Honestly that surprised me

pyramidshead3786d ago

Bookmarked. How do you like your crow served?

guitarded773786d ago

The article is about where XBOX One will perform best, not competition between X1 and PS4.

TheFallenAngel3786d ago (Edited 3786d ago )

Did you even read the article? It says that the bone will sell more in the USA than the rest of the world. It doesn't say that the bone will sell more than ps4.

guitarded773786d ago

I think 90% of the commenters missed that.

BX813786d ago

Reading is too stressful for some. It's a lot easier for their small minds to make this about xb1 vs ps4.

Godmars2903786d ago

Reading articles such as these are rather pointless - since they mean nothing.

replying to some of the comments are funny though.

Godmars2903786d ago

"Domination" should not be a concern to the average gamer. Viability maybe, but not even then really.

If one console does well, sees clear true profit, then its only going to be around for as long as competition can keep afloat, possibly rushing out its next system just to exploit its new-ness. Or the loser will fold up, close shop, and unless someone new comes along the "winner" of the cycle will get full of themselves and screw up.

The short of it is the industry is in a mess and the thing you're hoping for, that the XB1 will become the PS2 in terms of popularity, likely isn't going to happen.

And right now you're not even getting internet bragging rights.

Bigpappy3786d ago

Not sure your comments were aimed at my comment. But you have been around long enough and can be rational so I will add this response:

I never mention "Domination" and don't expect the X1 will globally out sell PS4. I am very confident it will beat PS4 in N.A though. May be even a few places in Europe. Based on the 2M sold, I think when the NPD numbers are released, they will show X1 passed PS4 in NA over Black Friday and Cyber Monday. That is my take. we shall see is I am right or wrong when those numbers are released.

Eonjay3785d ago

@Bigpappy

Can't argue with that. Its your opinion and its based on historical data. I don't really think the historical data is going to hold up due to price changes but we shall see. The report should be out today.

CGI-Quality3786d ago

There's a slim chance the X1 wins in NA, but if you think it happened it November, you will be sorely mistaken. But, I'm sure you know that, you just don't want to face it, given your history.

OT: Captain Obvious is not amused.

Bigpappy3786d ago

X1 leading in NA doesn't mean they won NA. Just like PS4 leading at launch doesn't mean they won the sales battle. We have a very looong way to go.

CGI-Quality3786d ago

BUT, right now, nothing suggests that the X1 will catch up at all, which is why I don't get your hastily assembled assumption (outside of partisanship, of course).

Sarcasm3785d ago (Edited 3785d ago )

The one thing that suggests the X1 caught up is simply because the PS4 just isn't much stock in the U.S.

Everytime it seems like there's stock, it's gone right away.

My sister is starting to pull her hair trying to capture one, and was even asking me if she should drop $500 on a craigslist one. I keep telling her to look at the local retailers closely and she keeps missing it lol

MizTv3786d ago

What are you talking about?
Have you seen the numbers?

Evilsnuggle3786d ago (Edited 3786d ago )

You must excuse pAppy xBoned720 fanBoys don't think with logic They think with the heart. If they used logic they would buy A PS4 it is the superior game console in every conceivable way. Better frame rate ,better resolution, better lighting and better anti alias On every single multi-platfrom game so far. PS4 will out sell xBoned720 PS4 60% to 40% xBoned720 in the USA .PS4 will out sell worldwide 4 to 1

MorePowerOfGreen3786d ago

When things like Cortana possibly using other mobile devices in concert with XB1 and windows 8.1, it will make the Apple's Siri craze look like warm-ups.

Once again people are underestimating MSFT with their dedicated cloud compute servers, once that stuff takes off no competition has a hope of competing. XB1 will be putting out PC level graphics that match later PC hardware due to the azure servers being much more powerful that any home gaming PC. XB1 games will look better way late in this generation with revolutionary size with unheard of social features.

When the Xbox1 is subsidized through cable providers in the coming years it will most certainly take the lead because it will be the cheapest in competition. Assuming you like cable/satellite TV contracts in order to get a cheaper Xbox1.

Mikeyy3785d ago

Still wont count as sales, Have you ever had cable/satalite? If you cancel your service, they take the equipment back, you pay monthly for it, and NEVER own it.

So its not cheaper if you have to pay the cable company an extra $20 a month to rent an Xbox one, for ever, only to loose it once your bill gets outragous and you go to switch services to rebundle.

JsonHenry3785d ago (Edited 3785d ago )

Umm, yes. I own my cable modem. I own my satellite receiver/DVR. Hell, I even own the Dish outside. They won't be taking them back if I cancel my service.

Although I did have cable TV a long time ago and they did want their box back or I would owe them like $50.

Also- when it is an option at the top end of their package deals I am sure they will charge you for the Xbox1 and it is yours to keep much like my higher end DVR and my higher end DOCSIS 3.0 modem. Both cost me a little more (less than retail though) but both are mine to keep.

So yes it will count as sales.

GW2123785d ago

99.9% of cable and satellite customers DO NOT OWN THE HARDWARE. I am not sure who your cable provider is but if it's any major name (or minor for that matter), you are mistaken and you do not own your hardware.

Source: I am the former CEO of a cable system.

JsonHenry3785d ago

No, I own mine. And so do a lot of people that do the math and don't want to pay a rental fee that will cost more in the long run. I bought mine about ~4 years ago for around 160.00USD on a special sale through a 3rd party installer.

Yeah ok. Once Sony is able to keep the PS4 in stock it's a wrap. NA will belong to Sony.
Plus the article is just saying the xbone will sell better in NA then anywhere else. Doesn't mean it will outsell the PS4.

JeffGUNZ3785d ago

It's way to early to tell for ANY system. This is launch figures. Their is no way these types of numbers will continue for the next ten years. Eventually, these numbers will drop and it will start to trend of which console is able to keep a steady flow and which company will start to dip. We really will have no idea for a few years, after 1 year, we may start seeing some sort of levels, but to call it one way or the other THIS EARLY in the cycle is premature at best.

ShinMaster3785d ago

Article says that it'll do better in N.A. than in the rest of the world.
Not better in N.A. than the PS4.

Not the same thing.

Hank_Schrader3785d ago

Somehow Bigpappy you wrote the exact opposite of what will happen smh.

Kryptix3785d ago

lol It's not even being compared to the PS4 in the article. It's stating that North America will buy more Xbox Ones than any other country.

Anyway though, in NA alone, the PS4 sold 1 million in 24 hours and the Xbox One needed more countries to achieve 1 million, so what do you think?

Truth hurts, but if you're blind now, you'll eventually learn someday. Why do you think Greenpowerz, the biggest Xbox fanboy on this website doesn't post anymore? He learned the truth, that's why he closed his account.

Kryptix3785d ago (Edited 3785d ago )

@ShinMaster

True, but as the number of liars and blind people grow on N4G, the number of people that think logically grows even more.

What I don't understand is that why do some people not know basic mathematics or can't tell right and wrong.

But once they see the truth posted everywhere, they'll eventually know, unless they really aren't who they are but actually act blind to stir something up...one kind of troll in the internet universe. MisterX might be a good example.

frostypants3785d ago (Edited 3785d ago )

The analyst says the One will do better in the US than the rest of the world. That's not the same thing as saying it will do better than the PS4 in the US. Reading comprehension seems a lost art on N4G.

ABizzel13785d ago (Edited 3785d ago )

To be honest I don't know if the PS4 will "win" NA, although it doesn't really need to win, as long as there's parity (like the Wii and 360) then they've won on WW sales easily with a +30M in EU, JP, and RoW sales, and the fact that it's cheaper and more powerful than the XBO is going to give it a bigger lead in those territories (especially since it's much cheaper compared to the PS3 launch price which still went on to win those locales).

I see NA being closer to a tie. The NA market (specifically the US gamer) is a fickle market. NES won it, SNES won it, PSOne won it, PS2 won it, 360 won it (just barely beat Wii this year by a couple hundred thousand), and if the 2 console win tradition continues than XBO should win it but they have a lot of work to do getting that price down (subsidize and they win NA), and getting the all the features working.

But we'll see.

Blackdeath_6633785d ago

XBone will not dominate NA, it also doesn't matter if it did or not. what matters for MS is to increase the value of the product and do so quickly

3-4-53785d ago

Isn't this saying out of all the counties XB1 is in, it will do the best in NA, NOT that it will be the best console sold in NA.

I believe they are just stating WHERE their strongest market with their new product is.

I could be 100% wrong though.

MadMen3785d ago

pappy

You may be right, time will tell, and history shows favor to Xbox in the US.

But this site is lop sided, not much good it does on here, facts put people in denial mode.

lodossrage3784d ago (Edited 3784d ago )

@Bigpappy

What reality is that? Because it sure as hell isn't the reality that the NPD showed yesterday.

@3-4-5

That's EXACTLY what it's saying. You read it correctly.

Bigpappy3784d ago (Edited 3784d ago )

Yeah, that was my error. NPD does not reflect cyber Monday's numbers. So we will have to wait until newer number are shown. But I will concede that PS4 is still ahead in the U.S. until numbers show different.

@3-4-5: my prediction had nothing to with what was said in the article. It was based on Sony having shortages in the US and there gains coming from launch in Europe, while M$ gains were coming mostly from sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. With the X1 numbers going over 2 mil, it made sense to me that Xbox will move ahead of PS4 in US. But NPD did not report Cyber Monday as that was December 1st. Black Friday alone did make it very close and my assertion that Cyber Monday might have put X1 ahead is not far fetched.

Bethesda Needs to Reduce the Gaps Between New Fallout and Elder Scrolls Releases

Waiting a decade for new instalments in franchises as massive as Fallout and Elder Scrolls feels like a waste.

Microsoft have Obsidian but I feel it's Bethesda who just don't want to play ball as they've always said they want to do it themselves.

Once MS bought Zenimax in 2020 they should have put the Outer Worlds 2 on the back burner, allow Bethesda to finish off its own Space RPG with Starfield (despite totally different tone why have two in your first party portfolio with two developers who's gameplay is a tad similar) and got Obsidian for one of their projects to make a spiritual successor to New Vegas.

When the Elder Scrolls VI is finished Bethesda can then onto the main numbered Fallout 5 themselves.

The Outer Worlds 2 started development in 2019 so putting it on the back burner wouldn't have been the end of the world, they'd have always come back to it once Fallout was done and it would have been nicely spaced out from Starfields release once they had most likely stopped supporting it and all the expansions were released.

If they did this back in 2020 when they bought Zenimax and the game had a good, steady 4 - 5 years development, you might have seen it release in 2025.

We are literally going to be waiting until 2030 at the very earliest for Fallout 5 and all they seem bothered about is pushing Fallout 76.

RaidenBlack8h ago(Edited 7h ago)

Its not just only Todd not playing ball.
Obsidian have made a name for themselves in delivering stellar RPGs, but most famous once have always been sequels/spin-offs to borrowed IPs like KOTOR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Stick of Truth etc.
Obsidian wants to invest more in their own original IPs like Outer Worlds or Pillars of Eternity with Avowed.
Similar to what Bluepoint & inXile wants to do or Kojima is doing (i.e not involving anymore in Konami's IPs).
So yea, even if New Vegas has the most votes from 3D Fallout fans, Obsidian just wants to do their own thing, like any aspiring dev studio and MS is likely currently respecting that.
But a future Fallout game from Obsidian will surely happen. Founder Feargus Urquhart has already stated an year ago that they're eager to make a new Fallout game with Bethesda, New Vegas 2 or otherwise. Urquhart was the director of the very first 1995's Fallout game after all.
And don't forget Brian Fargo and his studio inXile, as Brian Fargo was the director of Fallout's 1988 predecessor: Wasteland

KyRo4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Obsidian should take over the FO IP. They're do far better with it than Bethesda who hasn't made a great game for almost 15 years

Duke194h ago(Edited 4h ago)

I disagree. Part of these games is the support for the mod community. If they move to releasing a "next game" every 2 or 3 years, the modding support plummets and the franchises turn into just another run of the mill RPG.

Make the games good enough to withstand the test of time, to keep people coming back to them and expanding on them with mod support.

--Onilink--1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I dont think anyone is saying they need to come out every 2 years (not to mention almost no game is released that quickly anymore)

By the time Fallout 5 comes out, it will be more than 15 years since Fallout 4 came out (same with ES6 coming out 15 years after Skyrim). Even if you want to use F76 as the metric for the most recent release, that one came out in 2018. It will be a miracle if F5 comes out before 2030

The point is that for a studio that doesnt seem to operate with multiple teams doing several projects at once, that their projects normally take 4-5 years as a minimum, and that now they even added Starfield to the rotation, it becomes a 15+ years waiting period between releases for each series, which doesnt make sense. Imagine that Nintendo only released a mainline Mario or Zelda game every 15 years…

They either need to start developing more than 1 project at a time, let someone else take a crack at one of the IPs or significantly reduce their development times

Duke190m ago

Why should someone else take a crack at one of the IPs? Look at what happened to Final Fantasy - there is pretty clear FF fatigue setting in because they are now pumping out titles in the franchise every few years.

There are plenty of options to make new games, not just pump more titles in the same universe more quickly.

mandf1h ago

Yeah I’m going to say it, who cares about the modding community when making a game? Half the time developers only tolerate modders because they fix there game for them.

Skuletor3h ago

Yeah, let's all advocate for smaller gaps between series' releases, then we'll probably get headlines about how the series have dropped in quality and they could have benefited from more time in the oven. Let them cook.

SimpleSlave1h ago

"how the series have dropped in quality and they could have benefited from more time in the oven" So every Bethesda game then? Got it.

Listen, I would agree if this was about From Software or something, but Bethesda?

🤣

C'mon now. What timeline are you from?

isarai2h ago

Hows about you focus on quality, just a thought 🤷‍♂️

Sciurus_vulgaris1h ago

Bethesda [or Microsoft] would have to reallocate internal and external studios towards fallout and elder scrolls titles. Bethesda has the issue of developing 2 big IPs that are large RPGs on rotation. If you want more Fallout and Elder Scrolls, development will have to be outsourced.
