Seven Games We Wish We Could Forget (and Why We Shouldn't)

Over the course of gaming history, we've seen a number of bad games that we all wish that could be erased from our memories, Eternal Sunshine style. But beneath their bad design choices, questionable history and overall messiness on gaming’s clean tablecloth, there is a silver lining. If anything, gaming is a learning experience and we’ve got to take the good with the bad. So, in an effort to soothe the burns of the past, here’s a new list of seven games that have left a stain on gaming history, but also teach us a number of lessons that the entire industry and culture shouldn’t forget (even if we really want to).

Am I the only one that is tired of the Bioshock 2 hate. It wasn't a bad game by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, gameplay wise - it improved quite a lot. It felt better, looked better and just felt more polished. It wasn't very ambitious, story wise (Sophia Lamb was basically Atlas with a pussy) but it was still a good game and better than most that year.

Slider2573787d ago

I wouldn't classify Bioshock 2 as a bad game, but a poor story. Lamb was a horribly lame antagonist and the story was held together more by what we thought we remembered from the first game than actual good storytelling. Couple that with the fact that you are supposed to be a Big Daddy, one of the toughest creations under the sea and yet a single splicer could own you and the game just didn't live up to the expectations of the first (yes I'm firmly aware of why "Delta" was a weaker Big Daddy but even this felt only like an attempt for the writers to shoe-horn the idea into the story)

I completely agree about the mechanics of the game being much better, new weapons (see: Rivet Gun) and plasmids were well thought out and fun additions to the world. It was fun to set traps and plan attacks around helping your little sister out. But following a game that (arguably) set the bar for storytelling in a game with a story so full of plot holes Swiss Cheese is envious generally lands said game in a bad light.

If he wouldn't be weak it would be boring as hell.

TacoTaru3787d ago (Edited 3787d ago )

They changed a masterpiece of mood and suspense into just another shooter. Oh what a surprise lets have another big sister battle.

LordDhampire3787d ago

game was great, I can't stand people who complain when games are constantly the same like assassins creed, then they complain when games are different then the original like bioshock 2, come on people

joab7773787d ago

I agree. Other than the story it was actually better in most regards. Love Bioshock 2.

phello3787d ago (Edited 3787d ago )

I was mental about the original and in fairness the sequel was not as good but it was still a great game. Everyone hated it just because Irational was not on board and BTW the best dlc of the year with Minerva's den

JasonKCK3787d ago

I think Bioshock 2 is better than Bioshock Infinite but that's just me.

GrandTheftZamboni3786d ago

It's not just you. I had more fun with 2 than with 1 or Infinite.

YOLO_Doge3786d ago

The reason Bioshock 2 received so much hate is because after the first game won GOTY peoples expectations for the sequel were far too high, and the sequel ended up being more of the same with a lame story in comparison to the first game and a boring tacked on multiplayer.
Was it a bad game? No.
Was it a good game? No.

Don't get why people hate on Bioshock 2 so much.. I enjoyed the game.

I want so badly for South Park: The Stick of Truth to never make it onto this list, but I have a nagging feeling that given the long amount of time spent in development hell this title may end up here before the end of next year. Man I hope I'm 100% wrong on this prediction.

SpiralTear3787d ago

South Park has a pretty evergreen vibe, so I don't expect the game to be anywhere near as big a disaster as Duke Nukem Forever (if at all). The Stick of Truth isn't likely to be delayed to the point of passing up all of these evolutionary phases in its genre; I don't expect it to be in a perpetual state of mechanical catch-up like Duke Nukem Forever was.

OrangePowerz3787d ago

What's with the hate for Bioshock 2? It wasn't a bad game.

kratos_TheGoat3787d ago

online was frustrating and boring

phello3787d ago

Seriously it was great getting control of a big daddy in multi also having the various powers created loads of different approaches.

kratos_TheGoat3787d ago

Dandizzle577d ago

God damn Megadeth Duke Nukem anthem is the best.

Snookies12577d ago

It is pretty amazing, I remember being so hyped that they covered the Duke theme back when it happened haha. I still quite enjoyed Forever though personally.

Venoxn4g577d ago

It is great, you should check out Eric Calderone - Duke Nukem meets metal .. thats proper as well

"so wrong yet so right"

Only a few will know what Im talking about lol :D

Wow, that advanced lighting makes a huge difference to the visuals. I get that Gearbox tried to slap everything together and release a finished product. But it seems like they cut out a lot of content that would have made the experience more enjoyable. That's a shame.

Number1TailzFan619d ago

Nerfed due to consoles.. and not the first time it has happened.

-Foxtrot619d ago

Kind of amazing the difference a lighting engine makes

Number1TailzFan619d ago

Same, the AI could be pretty dumb but the bosses were fun. I thought the levels (mostly) got better later in the game too.

XiNatsuDragnel619d ago

Devs nerf a game man best quote I've ever heard.
