PS4 fastest-selling console in UK history

Sony's PlayStation 4 is the fastest-selling console in UK history, according to official sales figures.

Chart-Track said PS4 beat the eight-year record help by Sony's PlayStation Portable, which launched in 2005 to the tune of 185,000 sales. PS4 beat Xbox One, which launched on 22nd November, and its predecessor PlayStation 3.

This is very impressive for Sony and dire for Microsoft. I think we are going to be looking at a 2 to 1 advantage for Sony over Microsoft. No way the PS4 isn't the lead console platform now.

Super Mario 3D World was the number one game on the eShop in every region. And the game is only a little bit over a GIG.

Kind of a shame for Nintendo really. I've always had a soft sport for Nintendo and Mario. Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2 were some of my all time favourite games.

It seems review scores don't always tell the whole story. Ive never, and no-one should really, swear by them to be begin with. But that is definitely a surprise to see Knack above what it was probably in direct competition with. I thought everyone thought it was awful? ;).

Sad thing though is Mario is about a thousand times better of a game. I am a Sony fan all the way but I want quality games, give me ratchet and clank, jak and daxter.... I would play Mario over Knack any day.

So Microsoft tried to screw over gamers everywhere in their reveal and Sony just concentrated on gamers, developers, raw power and amazing value on PS+ for PS3/Vita/PS4.

Guess who the public believe in?

Sony deserve this for their great AAA games, their focus on Indies, their amazing PS+ games, their focus and inclusive consultations with developers for PS4 and for the great PS Vita. It really is a great hand held system.

Gaming is in safe hands at last.

Microsoft are greed over value and content, Nintendo milked the casual market without putting anything back but Sony have stuck to their guns and live the gaming philosophy day after day.

I'm still not counting out microsoft. No one thought they would do even this well after e3 but here they are, neck and neck with ps4 in sales. Plus i'm still seeing more Xbox one promotional material and ads then ps4 everywhere. Microsoft will still hold a huge chunk of the market this gen regardless of what Sony fanboys think. Now it just comes down to Sony keeping up with supply so they dont risk losing potential customers to the Xbox one. This gen won't be a landslide for Sony like the ps2 days were. But it'll definitely be better than the ps3 era.

I read some articles earlier saying how Microsoft won early black Friday sales and accounted for the majority of console sales over the weekend with the 360 and the one combined here in the US. That article was from Venture Beat, who took a survey of people in line in front of Target. They then proceeded to tell everyone that the Xbox One sold more on Black Friday...even telling us in the article that it was just based on a survey. I hate when they pull that crap.

The XBO's strongest region will be North America this generation. That's for sure. However, it definitely sold less units than the PS4 in all regions, including NA.

I disagree, they are not neck an neck, they were prior to the PS4s release In Every other territory, now Sony has to have one hell of a lead considering every site I go to has people talking about the PS4 being sold out. Sony is sitting in a great place right now and the only thing that can slow down their momentum is themselves and they know that. Now if Sony has the quantity of consoles they've been saying they have for the holidays I can see them easily hitting the 3 million mark by the new year.

And on a side note I live in WA and the PS4 midnight release lines were longer than the Xbox one ones, so it looks like Sony's not only beating them in their own home land but their own home state.

I am very thankful of MS for the Xbox360. Without it I doubt that sony would ever release an amazing machine as the PS4 at $400. That is why I don't want a PS2 wipe out again this gen cause I don't want the PS5 to be another PS3. Competition is good. Look at the Wii U, they got comfortable and started really bad. A gift.. Funny how EA is yet to replicate even a quarter of something similar (in terms of value) to PS4 buyers.

It was done purely because pre-orders for the XBONE was low. Also, EA and MS had a deal (which is why EA announced no more online passes prior to the DRM announcement from MS). This means this revenue stream was no longer required.

However the reversal meant a big Ooops on EA/MS part. So money traded hands, a deal was made, etc. Good for the gamers I agree, though one sided.

sort of off-topic: i don't get the knack slamming - bought the game, finished it, and it was a lot better than what people were chalking it up to be. it felt like a classic PS2 3D platformer to me, which was nice. i mean, it wasn't too difficult (played through hard mode), but its target audience isn't the demon's/dark souls crowd, so...

on-topic: there's not a single PS4 available anywhere where i live. in fact, i've been trying to get one of the cameras, and even those things have been sold out for weeks at all retailers. i'm sort of kicking myself for not picking one up prior to the launch of the system when there were lots on the shelf.
