Can't update your Xbox One via Xbox LIVE? Microsoft suggests taking it to a friend's house

GameZone writes, "As we reported earlier, Microsoft has pulled the Xbox One's day-one update from its website, removing the option to manually install mandatory patch via USB. This means, to have a functional Xbox One at launch you must connect the console to the internet. It also means that those who can't connect their Xbox One to the internet are screwed -- even if they managed to download the manual update via PC before it was pulled. If you won't have internet connection available, Microsoft suggests taking your console to a friends house or something."

No, it would mean you can order the patch from Microsoft through a phone number. That or you can visit a restaurant or cafe with free wifi and get it from there using a cellphone or laptop. Many options, but since it's not possible to patch through USB/disc, you're going to be taking that big box to a friend's house to do it which you never know...might not have the time or room for it.

I have a smartphone with T-Mobile unlimited plan and enabling hotspot on it is very costly. (greedy bastards lol)

Microsoft messed up, one way that could of been done is using your smartphone's WiFi, download the patch somewhere with internet and then update using the USB cord.

Launch day might have some kind of shitstorm for the Xbox One, they better be prepared for those refunds.

Singleplayer games are still relevant you know? Online isn't absolutely necessary...you may be missing out on a portion of your game and some other features but it's not mandatory. I see no reason why someone couldn't buy an X1 and/or PS4 and have a thoroughly enjoyable time for years to come without buying PS plus or XBL gold.

My point is its 2013 and if you buy a state of the art 2013 home device you should expect it to need a 2013 setup at home.

There are prob better options for those without net access.

On the PS4, besides alternatively downloading the update...You don't need a PSN account to update your system.

So one of the major points during the whole DRM/Always online fiasco was, those policies would completely alienate our troops overseas because they lack internet. Also anyone without stable or fast internet.

So then Microsoft did their big 180, which was good, but they're still sticking it to the same groups of people, however the minority, because of something as simple as an update.

This update should have been included on EVERY launch title, available via usb drive, or even available for order on disc if needed.

How are you going to release a product that basically, can't work without a software update, and expect every person to be able to download it?!
