Good list if we are talking about 'influence'

I would say Gears of War should be at no.2 considering how many third person cover we have seen this gen...also no Uncharted which I would argue is more influential than the Mass Effect trilogyv(although not as good)

Great to see Braid there as the game that really kick started the indie scene on console

SweetDangos3810d ago

I don't see how this got a disli- Oh wait! This is N4G.
Gow did revolutionize the cover mechanic. Pretty much everything took inspiration from it. Even Uncharted

That would be true if everyone started gaming in 2005 like you did. Those of us that know better know that Winback on the N62/PS1 did cover long before Gears. Also google Killswitch and Cliffy B who admitted the cover mechanic was inspired by Killswitch.

Edit....Now that I think about it, Metal Gear did cover 20 years ago.

Sidology3810d ago

Eeehhh, I dunno about Braid. I can see where some would think so, but I'm iffy at best.

Oagoz3810d ago (Edited 3810d ago )

I thought Minecraft might have been on that list, oh well still all great choices

InTheLab3810d ago

No uncharted is criminal and they should probably add batman AA.

Wii sports was very influential but for the wrong reasons.

Rzep3810d ago

Neither Uncharted nor Batman was influential. Where do you see it's influnce? I am surprised that there isn't Minecraft seeing that the build/survive genre is booming. Also I am not sure which game it should be but there should be something with Zombies, don't remember what started the boom in zombie games though.

gillri3810d ago

I would say Uncharted for its insanely over the top set pieces, they were everywhere after Uncharted 2

and Batman Arkham Asylum for its hit/counter combat system which have found there way into many games since

Not massively influential like some other titles here though

InTheLab3810d ago

Games influenced by Uncharted- Splinter Cell and the Tomb Raider reboot off the top of my head.

Games influenced by the Arkham franchise- The combat of Assassin's Creed 3 and 4, The spiderman franchise starting with Shattered dimensions.

Those are 5 or six huge games right there. Now some will argue about the TR reboot but the reboot looks and plays more like Uncharted than Legend, Anniversary, Angel of Darkness, etc.

On the flip side, Minecraft is crazy popular but what other game out there is like it besides the blatant clones on Android/IOS? No other big names have sprung up to challenge the original.

pecorre3810d ago

Littlebigplanet should be on that list. It was one of the first Play, Share, Create type of game.

Uncharted should be on it too for it's influence on cinematic action sequence and it's story telling.

Agent20093810d ago

Uncharted didn't change anything. When will people understand that?

Wni03810d ago

Well, Drake, and the characters around him talked to eachother constantly through gameplay sections which is something new. Bioshock Infinite took that idea (albeit more linear,) finally we have games without a silent protagonist. And in terms if actual quality Uncharted 2 and 3 set the bar to a new standard. But no we dont see Uncharted Clones just yet.

Nerdmaster3810d ago

"we dont see Uncharted Clones just yet"
That's because any Uncharted clone is actually a Tomb Raider clone, since Uncharted is a Tomb Raider with a less hot protagonist.

InTheLab3810d ago

There's a ton of Uncharted haters here dude. Don't worry. None of the games on this list or any from the other posters have ever been considered game of the gen like UC2.

Blind haters....

Why MW 2019 is still the best looking Call of Duty to date

MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
