'Oh Noes! PS4 Exposed!' The recent craze in gaming reports.

If you've seen recent reports about the PS4, you'd know that the PS4 is apparently going to 'spy' on you and will block used games according to the European ToS for the PS4. Where do I begin?

First off all, you guys know that these were the exact same ToS in the PS3 right? Secondly, can we drop the PS4 DRM conspiracy theory? Because Sony confirmed that the PS4 has no DRM back in February and a million times after that. Links?

So, there you have it. The PS4 never had DRM in the first place. But people still want to come out and say that Sony are liars, that Sony never clarified this, even AFTER the E3 press conferences. Look at some of these tweets Yoshida has replied to.

"So do you have the old Microsoft DRM after all?" No
"Hi, ppl are canceling ps4 pre orders. they say its thanks to the new terms of services which have a lot of DRM policies! u guys lied?" No
"ToS 6.3 and 7.1, does it means I wont be able to rent games from gamefly or other services or sell the games I no longer want?" No, it does not mean that
From Shuhei Yoshida on twitter:
'If you are concerned about our new European TOS, we confirm that you are able to sell or share your disc PS4 products, including in EU.'

How many times do you have to hear it? You heard it when the PS4 was announced, you heard it after that and before E3 and you've heard it at E3, the biggest gaming event of the year.

So there you have it. The PS4 never had DRM to begin with and the day one patch is not used to remove DRM. Simple as that. But a lot of these reporters do not like to do their research.

With some 'journalists' it's just straight up denial. A prime example is MisterXMedia. I dare you to go read his blog and leave the site without an aneurism. It's full of conspiracy theorists making new innovative ways to spread misinformation and FUD. I also think MisterXMedia and his insiders were ReviewTechUSA's little bird 'sources'.
Well tweety tweet tweet, they got everything wrong on Rich's 'Next-Gen launch disaster' FUD video.

A lot of these 'gaming journalists' on Youtube or any other site with an active gaming community seem to be either misinformed, or don't do their research before reaching a conclusion. If they're not doing that, they're spreading melodramatic FUD about things as trivial as not being able to use MP3s and get DLNA access on a GAMES console. Weren't we all crapping on the XBO's initial reveal because of too much of focus on multimedia? Which is a part of the reason that it is running most games at a sub-1080p resolution?

Why do they do this? Because that's what gets the most attention. For how much everyone seems to dislike Fox News, they're still popular as hell due to their pessimistic and sensationalistic reports. That's what a lot of gaming journalists replicate. However MisterXMedia wants to bring Sony down, even though MS' position has improved MASSIVELY since E3 (which I'm actually quite glad about, keeps Sony on their toes a bit).

Anyway, thanks for reading guys. Tell me about what you think in the comments.

Who's going to pay my medical bills to treat these aneurysms?

MattyG3816d ago (Edited 3816d ago )

We just better hope there isn't a rash of framerate drops as well. Then we'll really be in for it.

Pisque3813d ago

PS4 has no good games yet so don't worry about it. All the good multiplats are still good on the Ps3.

One thing I think a lot of people need to realise is, these video game journalists pull this kind of crap because it works. If gamers would just wise up and learn to ignore flame bait articles and blatant attempts to cause controversy through misinformation, then it will naturally stop.

DestinyHeroDoomlord3816d ago

Dare I say it's because most gamers are immature

zerocrossing3816d ago

That certainly plays into it, but there are many more variables to consider.

DragonKnight3816d ago

They may factor in to a small degree, but the entire climate of gaming journalism was changed by gaming journalists. Jim Sterling said it best in his latest Jimquistion video that rumour and speculation are at the top of the ladder now, and gaming journalists have smug sense of superiority in knowing something that the average gamer doesn't know. Throw in whine fests about not receiving products early, and you can see that gaming journalism merely tries to feed into the mentality that is the base problem in gaming discussion these days.

DestinyHeroDoomlord3816d ago (Edited 3816d ago )

I agree, I also think vicious marketing plays a key role in forming a mass opinion. But like you said many variables.

GotEnder3816d ago

when xbox announced no game resale and 24 hour check the collective outrage among gamers was tremendous, so tremendous that microsoft reversed those decisions. do i think any company would be dumb enough to try that again so soon? no.

EXVirtual3810d ago

Exactly. Even MS knew when to back off with the DRM. So to think that someone would try that again, while lying as well is inconceivable.

PS4 is a utopian paradise while the Xbox One is a dystopian nightmare.

This is a huge release being treated like a patch update but really it’s a monster in disguise…Bethesda being Bethesda, no actual release times or pre load available or file size info, sigh. All that said, clearing space on the SSD and putting the PS5 in rest mode while at work so I can play later, fully expecting snail download speeds as millions bang on their servers.

Review - A Difficult Game About Climbing (PC) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "A Difficult Game About Climbing is obviously frustrating, and I don’t exactly think it’s a fun pasttime, but it’s exponentially more enjoyable than the horrendous Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy. It’s actually beatable with enough trial and error. Its mechanics, whilst not exactly polished to the brim, work as intended, with no intentional input lag. It’s still clearly meant for Let’s Play youtubers to film themselves losing their minds over it, but it can still be a passable challenge if you’re up for the task."

Review - Stitch (Switch) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Oliver Shellding: "Overall, I think Stitch is an ultra quaint title that oozes warmth and welcome in gameplay and visual presentation, and is just such a decompression tool after a long day doing literally anything. It gives me such joy and relaxation to bring together the numbers and colors until I’ve made a bicycle or a nutcracker or whatever. I’ll do Christmas puzzles in April, it’s fine and the game doesn’t judge me. Unlock more and more pieces, don’t wait for power ups or villains because there are none, and just keep making yourself happy. If games are art, this one is a sweater my mom made for me, and I’m wearing it to keep out any and all chilly elements. But, just like mom, I’ll only pretend to listen."
