Omfg do it and you will make millions of grown men cry including myself.

Do it SONY and you have my blessing

Now excuse me while I change my drawers

TimmyShire3808d ago

Can you imagine?! Shenmue as exclusive to PS4. Console war WON! :)

xReDeMpTiOnx3808d ago

That game is one of my all time favs. Was way ahead of its time.

And yes if sony could secure shenmue as an exclusive that would be a huge huge deal.

Hatsune-Miku3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

While others work on gimmicks and tv features as focal points of their gaming consoles, sony is focused on bringing video games to the playstation with gimmicks and features being secondary to games.

some silly people think ps move, ps eye, eyetoy, ps home are failures without seeing the genius in what sony does. They have just enough support for the niche market thats into them l

*faints*

abzdine3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

any of you guys remembers this?
http://gematsu.com/wp-conte...

there is chance that could happen. The question is "when"

Game-ur3808d ago

Everyone slow down, Adam is talking about localisation, Shenmo would need to be developed, this is not part of the 3rd party productions job.

karl3808d ago

Hey guys.. im 26 but i havent heard of shenmue. Was that a ps2 game?

FriedGoat3808d ago

@Karl

Originally a Dreamcast exclusive, then it came to ps2 when Sega left the console business.

kparks3808d ago

Sony we want a legend of dragoons game please!

mabreu3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

@Karl

Shenmue is one of those games that appear on many "Greatest Video Games of All Time" list. There is a good reason why. This game was way ahead of its time. Many of today's games are greatly influenced by it's design and development. The game developer, Yu Suzuki is a legend, a true "forward-thinker" that is greatly needed in the industry.

Retroman3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

I do believe the console war HAS!!!! been won (ps4) without Shenmue help but that would be icing on top.

Magicite3808d ago

I dont care how many features and apps PS4 has or lacks, but if they bring tons of great exclusives, then only thing my PS4 will, is play games, games and more games and ONLY that!

DonMingos3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

I hope this is true! And i'm still hoping for the Yakuza Kenzan localization.. That is the best Samurai game ever

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Docknoss3808d ago

Gonna need something after the horrible reviews of knack and killzone. Kz only has a metacritic of 70 percent after 13 reviews.

solid_snake36563808d ago

Shenmue had revolutionary graphics for that time period. Just imagine how it would look as a PS4 exclusive.

darthv723808d ago

A shenmue 3 has long been in the rumor mill but since sega started producing yakuza, shenmue was put on the back burner.

I still have the original for DC and Shenmue 2 for xbox. to have a Shenmue 3 on PS4 (or XB1) would be much appreciated.

At least sony is listening so why not Sega?

NarooN3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

@karl

Shenmue was originally a Dreamcast-exclusive (which itself began as a game for the Sega Saturn) which then got a sequel that was released on the Dreamcast and Xbox later on. Since then, fans have been waiting AGES for a resolution to the cliffhanger which slapped everyone in the face at the end of Shenmue 2.

Sadly, the series -- despite having massive developmental budgets at the time -- failed to recoup costs with sales, and Sega corporate decided to ice the series indefinitely after Shenmue 2. The games got critical acclaim, and despite having a cult following, didn't perform well in sales regardless of region.

Sega tried one last time to gain more sales by bringing Shenmue 2 to the Xbox in 2002, but the game once again sold poorly. The fact that the Dreamcast itself died a year earlier didn't help anything. The games were both truly just ahead of their time. Dreamcast adopters couldn't wrap their heads around the games' ambitious gameplay designs and massive scope, and the lack of success of the first game meant the second game had no hype via marketing or word-of-mouth when it launched, dooming the sequel to failure.

There have been several spin-off games for mobile devices and even an ill-fated MMO for the game released over the years, but not true sequel to Shenmue 2 yet.

Belking3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

Yep, just like agent and last guardian. people are still just imagining those.

Haki11123808d ago

I would admit I have Shenmue 1 and 2 for DC and 2 for xbox Would be under Sony wing forever if this was to happen

JasonKCK3808d ago

@karl Shenmue comes from the Sega Xbox days.

JasonKCK3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

For the person who hit disagree and the others to come. http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... and http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... (SEGA/XBOX) Those are the only consoles the series has been on. Anyway I hope to see this game on ALL systems because it's a great series.

MadMax3808d ago

Oh man, that might be the best thing to happen to gaming in a long time!!!!

DigitalRaptor3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

@ Belking.

Awww, you sound pretty insecure about that happening. The amount of butthurt from Xbox fans if this became a PS4 exclusive would be unprecedented. God knows, if Shenmue III was an Xbone exclusive, I would be sooo damn butthurt myself, it's not even funny. So let's not pretend.

The Last Guardian is still in production, they wouldn't keep sinking money into a project that was never going to come out. It's a PS4 game. Agent is the only one that is probably on the back burner indefinitely, and will probably end up being multiplatform, unless that Sony-Rockstar deal ends up coming to fruition.

@JasonKCK

No, Shenmue is native Dreamcast glory. I think the Xbox version of Shenmue II was slightly enhanced graphically and you could take save screenshots using the in-game camera, but since it didn't have the Japanese voice acting, and you couldn't transfer your save data from the first game, it wasn't the best version by any stretch of the imagination.

blackbeld3808d ago

Yes!!!

Finally get my hands on Shenmue. I have waited so long... My dream finally comes true.

Thank you Sony, many many thanks.

ChrisW3808d ago

@TimmyShire,

Except Shenmue II was co-published by Microsoft Game Studios...

Tito083808d ago

@FriedGoat- Shenmue never released on PS2, Dreamcast got both games, while XBox got only Shenmue 2, if Shenmue was ever on PS2, then I wouldn't have bought an O.G. Xbox.

HammerKong3807d ago

what the hack is shenmue and yakuza ,i've never herd of it but will play it if good ,but saying that sony will win the war ,thats an tounge of a fanboy and i'am no fan boy and is getting both new games .

shadowsatey3807d ago

I literally have to Google what Shenmue is...brb.

And...it looks like a Japanese fighting game...on Dreamcast?

Sci0n3808d ago

I remember learning a new move then going to the dojo to practice it on fukson. I also remember going to the bar to play super hang on on the arcade machine. I also remember going to work as a forklft driver.

Fuku-san was awesome, he was like a Japanese Milhouse

DaGR8JIBRALTAR3808d ago

lol.....I don't know about crying but plenty people wil be happy campers!

SegaGamer3808d ago

@FriedGoat

Shenmue never came to the PS2, when the Dreamcast died Shenmue 2 came to the Xbox.

HugoDrax3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

Thank You! I was going to say that. I still own and finished Shenmue 1 for my Dreamcast, and I finished Shenmue 2 for my original xbox. When I read it came to PS2 my initial thought was...

"maybe in Japan"

Anyhow, someone better release a 3rd entry or I won't be satisfied. All that training, and still no Lan Di :-(

GirlOnFire3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

Omfg is lightly putting it! I WANT SHENMUE!! PLEASE PLEASE! Sony bring it on please I'll love you forever! ^~^
"Wanna try lucky hit?" \(^~^)

Sci0n3808d ago

Shenmue!!!!! Sony please do it!!! make it happen!

ChrisW3808d ago

They'll have to pay a ton of money to MS since Microsoft Game Studios co-owns the publication rights to the franchise.

MisfitsInc3808d ago

not this grown man......get back in there rogue tear

ForgivenZombie3808d ago

I feel the tears starting to form, I would buy 10 copies for friends and family. I have waited for this for a long, long time, please be true.

Android3808d ago

I wouldn't cry I would simply die!! I think the nostalgic experience would possibly cause many fans of the series to suffer a synchronised heart attack. This world is simply too cruel to make such dreams happen....:( I wish they release this game one day so I can die an honourable death...

gigoran3808d ago

You all do know how to read, right? Did he at any point say the number "3"? Just Shenmue.

BoriboyShoGUN3808d ago

as long as were ordering games like pizzas remake the "legacy of Kain" series!

newflesh3808d ago

Am I dreaming?? Please somebody bite me... This can't be true... OMFG... Because if true, this'll be the greatest day on earth! xD

oof463808d ago

Then every single fan has to buy it. Too many times people pine for these niche games and they sell horribly.

I loved the first Shenmue on Dreamcast...even though I hated that my character shut down at 11:30 pm.

TimmyShire3808d ago

I love Shenmue, but I expect if this does happen it'd just be a HD remake of the first one. Which'd be cool, but not as cool as Shenmue 3.

Ratty3808d ago

Or an HD remake of the first two along with promises of a sequel if sales are good.

Amigaengine3808d ago

bubbles !

A HD remake would be fantastic and if it could generate a million or more in sales maybe Sega would go forward with 3

LeonhartX3808d ago

Wow that would be a megaton announcement!!

e-p-ayeaH3808d ago

Yoshida also talked TLoD a while back these guys know what truly gamers want!

LeonhartX3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

yeah i screamed like little girl when i heard about lod rumors :D :D

Arcanine3808d ago

I never played it and I always hear people talking about this game on n4g. But here is some great news for those people and I hope it comes true.

KrisButtar3808d ago

Same here, I never heard of those 2 titles before joining n4g but most on here seem to think its the 2nd coming of christ.

Arcanine3808d ago

That was funny! As hell

Hicken3808d ago

Even though I wasn't that big into gaming at the time, even I knew what a big deal Shenmue was.

No offense, but if you hadn't heard of it until almost a year ago, I have to question how long you've been gaming.

Is Driver (PS1) Still Worth Playing in 2024?

"Driver was a technical achievement for PS1, a pioneer in cinematic gaming, and an often brutal challenge - TechStomper asks if its brand of 70s car chase antics still holds up."

techstomper.com
PrimeVinister4d ago

The driving holds up, most of everything else does not.

PrimeVinister4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

@Shane Kim

Well, I mean the driving physics hold up. The draw distance, police AI, visuals in general etc do not

Cacabunga4d ago

One of my all time favorites on PS1. I spent a summer vacation playing this was so good

isarai4d ago

Sadly youd be hard pressed to find any driving game with better physics these days. But the draw distance really kills it for me

PrimeVinister4d ago

The physics hold up ridiculously well. And the draw distance is a real hurdle at first.

__y2jb4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Nonsense. The physics in any modern game or any 360 game is light years beyond Driver.

Dandizzle4d ago

This game is hard, you will fail and quit

PrimeVinister4d ago

But you will get there eventually... maybe

jznrpg4d ago

Stop with is it worth it articles. If you want to play a game play the damn game!

anast4d ago

I loved this game awhile back.

Barlos3d ago

Yeah but is it worth reading pointless articles?

__y2jb4d ago

It wasn’t worth playing in the 90’s.

Espangerish4d ago

My thoughts exactly. I bought it at release for full price and got frustrated and bored with it very quickly.

Terry_B6d ago

Well..you can play it completely offline at least ^^

PrimeVinister6d ago

Something we really miss, just turning on the console and having the game start without signing into stuff

Terry_B6d ago

Fully agreed. That and Splitscreen Modes for Racing games.

PrimeVinister6d ago

@Terry_B I miss having people to splitscreen with, but I can't blame anyone for that :-(

Cacabunga6d ago

Not too late.. we can still change that.

PrimeVinister6d ago

@Cacabunga I will let you in, see ya soon compadre :-P

MrBaskerville5d ago

@Terry_B
GT7 actually has 4 player splitscreen. Which is wild in this day and age.

TiredGamer6d ago

Good news is that Sony released a final update to Gran Turismo Sport to allow it to function offline. Expecting the same for GT7 at some point in the future.

PrimeVinister6d ago

That is great news, I really liked Sport even if many others did not :-/

Chocoburger6d ago

I'm not big into sim racing, but I got sucked into the hype for this one from magazines back then. I just played arcade mode and that was enough for me to feel like I got my money's worth.

Yeah, it's definitely worth playing today. GT 2 has a few interesting fan made graphical mods when played on an emulator as well.

PrimeVinister6d ago

The arcade mode is underrated, it's a great alternative mode and you can even unlock GT HiFi with it.

Fonsecap6d ago

Cars back then had much more personality then those we see today. Modern cars all about the led lights and the tablet size screens and they all seem alike, back then they could be simpler in design but had tons more personality.

PrimeVinister6d ago

That is something a few people have pointed out - that cars all look the same now. I have to agree that a lot of new vehicles lack personality.

fsfsxii6d ago

You guys are so anti-fun its depressing, like who tf cares about personality of objects like wtf? Just learn to enjoy stuff as is.

PrimeVinister6d ago

It's hardly anti-fun to remark that some objects look nicer than others.

And everyone has their favourite era of cars, I sincerely doubt many will pick the 2020s a few decades from now.

Fonsecap6d ago

Dude, like wft cares about personality of objects? What about art? Paintings are objects and they're considered good or bad if they show or lack personality so I ask, wtf are you talking about? Cars are also considered pieces of art, vintage cars, classic cars, classic bikes and so on. Artists are appreciated by the objects they craft, blacksmiths, painters, engineers, designers, so wtf cares about personality of objects indeed... ( Sorry for my English, it's not my native language)

MrBaskerville5d ago

Talking about cars is fun if you are a car enthusiast. Just saying.

ApocalypseShadow6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

That Corvette Stingray to this day is one of the most ferocious whips ever driven. Overpowered against other cars yes. But to drive it and be that close to losing control, but being in command around those curves, just can't be duplicated.

HiFi mode is also something I miss. There should be a mode in today's GT where it's Mano o Mano and the detail and resolution jump full throttle. In today's games, Max Ray Tracing and lighting and textures to make it look even more real..

PrimeVinister6d ago

A modern HiFi mode would be really cool! It would be really interesting to see how real they could go by stripping it all way back.

And Stingray is a solid choice 👌

TiredGamer6d ago

HiFi mode in GT1 was only a stripped down 60 fps mode for one track. Should have been called "Performance Mode" or "High Frame Rate" mode.

PrimeVinister6d ago

@TiredGamer it was only three tracks, but it was still cool

Petebloodyonion6d ago

Not according to Former Playstation president Jim Ryan for he told Time that he doesn't see why anyone would play old games given the advancements in fidelity achieved today.

https://time.com/4804768/pl...

PrimeVinister6d ago

I don't agree with him, but he had a few good points.

PlayStation 1 Classics Forgotten for One Reason or Another

The original PlayStation library has dozens of classics long since forgotten - TechStomper unearths five of these gems which have been lost to time for one reason or another.

Disruptor PS1, a pre Goldeneye console FPS from 1996 (with Command and Conquer type FMV cutscenes) and the first game by a pre Spyro Insomniac Studios directed by Mark Cerny. A good game for its time, and pre Bioshock use of telekinesis type powers. A game sadly almost completely lost to time

PrimeVinister10d ago

I have never even heard of it, so that must be a deep cut. Sounds really interesting and I might dig it out :-)

PrimeVinister10d ago

@Cacabunga A classic, no doubt. But, fondly remembered by many.

Cacabunga10d ago

First one was so good but second one on another level!!!
Still hoping to see a next gen version..

PrimeVinister10d ago

@Cacabunga Yeah, I preferred II for the real-timier combat. I would love to see both remade or remastered.

on_line_forever9d ago

We need to bring back the golden era of ps1 & ps2 .
We need to see quality games developed with alot of passion to make gamers satisfied .
We need to benefit from new AI technology to bring something new to games something like " nemesis systems " that used in shadow of morder and upgrade it to next level

PrimeVinister9d ago

The economics of games has changed a lot since the PS1 and PS2. As much as I would love a return to those days, it's not not at all likely.
