Uh, what? It can play 100 percent of wii games. Thats what it can do and for 50 dollars basically that is enough

I get Nintendo's strategy here - this is similar to the 2DS - an entry-level console, for younger players.

This is a cheap way to get into gaming. Makes sense.

But I REALLY hope consumers will be able to realize that this IS a revision of the original Wii, and not the "new Wii". Hopefully this won't cause too much confusion for Wii U.

Neonridr3812d ago

Not necessarily a wise thing for Nintendo to be doing. This holiday should be all about the Wii U. They can't afford to confuse consumers even more by having another Wii option out for them.

I really hope the sales staff are more educated this time around...

JackieCruise693812d ago

And here's to me walking into the Walmart this holiday only to leave wanting to ram my face into a wall after visiting the gaming section. For my area, this move was stupid on Nintendo. bad enough the game section staff don't seem to know shit about what they're working with.. but these people don't even organize. They just.. throw shit in. Last time I went they had 3DS XL's underneath the 360 section instead of the 3DS', they literally merged the Wii and Wii U section so it's a clusterfuck mess that'll be sure to confuse the shit out of un-informed parents..
Oh, but don't worry. The Ps3 and 360 sections are perfectly organized alongside the Ps4 and One sections.
Gamestop isn't any better.
I hope the consumers are smarter than the staff.

CaptainN3812d ago

Yea my bestbuy did the same thing by mixing wii and wii u games in one section... its terrible...but the ps4 and one sections were all nice and seperate !

iplay1up23812d ago

Ugh, common. You can pick a used Wii up for less than that, and it will be backwards compatible with GC and have online. Granted I still have not seen Mario Kart too cheap anywhere.

Five Bad Console Redesigns that Missed the Mark

Sometimes newer isn't better when it comes to hardware. Here are five subpar console redesigns that chopped a feature too many.

I would also add the Gameboy Micro. The Gameboy Advance SP was already a little bit too small, and the Micro which was made even smaller, was impossible to play for more than 5 minutes without destroying your hands.

abstractel888d ago

I quite liked the PSP redesign :shrugs:.

plmkoh888d ago

If it was released today everyone would be praising it.

PrimeVinister888d ago

I would definitely agree on that. The infrastructure is there for a digital-only device and physical media isn't as big a deal.

The very reasons it was rejected in 2009 are flipped on their head.

got_dam887d ago

Note to author. Make the section titles BIGGER than the text for the body of each section. It reads better.

got_dam883d ago

Lol 1 dislike. Bet the author can't take any criticism. Constructive or otherwise.

No Wi-fi, no deal. Save your money and get a cheap OG Wii online.

BrashGames3714d ago

The Wii mini console does not connect to the Internet and does not support online features in games but it’s still a great price at £31.97, Paper Mario alone costs £18.20 at Amazon.

TomShoe3714d ago

I suppose that's true. If you have a little kid who's new to gaming, or don't have internet, this would be a stellar deal.

wonderfulmonkeyman3714d ago

Unless you don't care about online games on the Wii[which many people did not, to be fair] and only have one or two games in mind for the system, in which case, it's actually a bargain.

BattleN3714d ago

I would buy and give as a gift

Geobros3714d ago

Its sexy this red mini Wii, I would buy it at this price...

Geekman3714d ago

Hm. All it took was a price drop to get me to change my opinion on this thing. This could be an excellent choice for kids just getting into gaming. It's a waste of money, though, for anyone else.

Time to say goodbye to the Wii...or is it?

With the upcoming release of Wii-Mini, is it time to say goodbye to the Wii or move on to the Wii-U?

The way I see it, they shouldn't be releasing the Wii-Mini in the US at all.
It was a failure over here in the UK, since a second hand Wii Console is about £20-30 these days, so forking out more money for a version that can't play gamecube games and is only slightly 'mini' compared to the Wii is pointless.

Nintendo should've took the money they are using to distribute the Wii-Mini and use it to further advertise the Wii-U and the fact it can play Wii games too and in HD.

bobsmith3813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

I got a wii u cheap and can finally play wii games
im getting the wii mini just for the motion plus controller with nunchuck and game. Seperatley they cost about 100 dollars new so free wii mini or about 20 for it since I could probably find the game and controller a little cheaper

fattyuk3813d ago

Bye!

Close the door on your way out

ABizzel13813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

Agreed, the Wii was probably my least favorite console of all time (of the Big 4, including Sega). Maybe the Sega Saturn, but I really don't remember that one to well.

rjguess3813d ago

Yes, close the door to the wii ane concentrate on the Wii U. The wii u can play wii games so shut the wii down. No point in making games for that system any longer.

MadMen3813d ago

For Nintendo Yes.

For the consumer, Keep the Wii, skip the WiiU.

willie323813d ago

I said goodbye to the Wii within one month of the purchase. It collected a lot of dust.

Kryptix3813d ago

Only bought the Wii for the exclusives, but was never the console for anything else. I think that's the case with the Wii U, too and I'm sure the console will reach a new peak in sales once a new Legend of Zelda comes out...but nobody buys Nintendo consoles for anything else, just the exclusives.
