PS4 Countdown: Do you care that it doesn’t play MP3s?

I don't but it would be naive for me to say nobody cares because it is clear that some people do. I don't think it is a deal breaker but Sony should reconsider this choice

God stop being such a damn fanboy, this is coming from a PlayStation fanboy, what Sony did by not supporting MP3 was just dirty. They were trying to force consumers to buy Music Unlimited if they wanted to listen to music. Stop always defending companies like everything they do is for the good of consumers, no its for their company. I'm not saying Sony is bad a company but compared to Microsoft and Nintendo they are the best out of the 3.

I purchase gaming consoles strictly for gaming. I have never installed or ran an MP3 off of a console. I'm not even sure how to do so. I have maybe 10 songs on my smart phone and that's only to plug into my treadmill when I'm putting in some miles and I had my son install them on my phone for me.

I'm just about the games. All the other options and features these consoles offer other than gaming don't appeal to me personally. Just give me them games and get out of my way!

Im with you Flamehawk, they better rectify this. This system better do everything the PS3 did and better. Otherwise i will be crying bloody murder. This defending them business is fanboyism gone wrong. Just like when the MS fanboys defended the RROD, its pathetic and its got to stop.

I'm pro PS4 all the way, but i do care, i have a huge mp3 library on my PS3 and i want to tranfer it to my PS4, so Sony i want my mp3 playback

It sucks that they're cutting these features from the PS4 to steer us towards something that we'd need to pay for. It's not a deal breaker, I am still getting it primarily for games, but it does suck. It would be nice to have custom music for certain games also.

I like the ability to play music from my media devices however I still own a ps3 which at some point will be getting less action than my ps4. That thing will still play my music and stream my movies via dlna. My ps4 went be replacing my ps3 anytime soon. And furthermore, I'm totally comfortable having both of them residing next to each other under my television.

MP3s I can take or leave. While it is nice to have them to play with racing and sports games, for any other type of game I enjoy listening to what the developers musicians have come up with. Being a musician myself and owning my own recording studios and record label, I understand the importance of original music. But I also understand the importance of choice.

Didn't Sony already say that they are bringing MP3s to the next update after 1.5?

That's not to say I will never want to play an mp3 from it, but as far ad launch and the first year is concerned.......Im perfectly fine w/ the system sans mp3 support. Lol is this even for real.

I listen to music all the time on my PS3, but I wouldn't call it a deal breaker, I'm hoping they add MP3 and streaming back soon, I like the ability to watch MP4s of my son taking his first steps on my ps3, and I'd love the ability on PS4 aswell

Like Lowsnamebrand, I care, but it isn't a deal breaker. The only time I use mp3s on my gaming console is when I play racing games. I generally don't like the soundtracks included, and would rather listen to the songs I like, mixed with the ingame audio of voices and sound fx. I think it is definitely a step back not including the functionality of mp3s in the console, but it won't stop me from buying the PS4. Just disappointed.

I have all of my music on my PS3. It's all organized with CD covers & all. I always hated I couldn't play my music during games and enjoyed the ones I could. I was looking forward to this being fixed on the PS4, but it'll be patched eventually.

While it doesn't bother me because I have other devices hooked into my TV that do this already, I think the lack of local network streaming compatability is kinda big, especially since PS3 does it relatively well.

What I don't like about some of this PS4 news is that they've taken lots of features out that PS3, and even PS2 and PSone had. For this reason my PS3 will be sticking around long after I get my PS4 on launch day.

No, not really, a vast majority of the people that care are the same people who would probably never use the thing, but because it's something they, the all-mighty, everliving Consumer, aren't getting, they stick their head in the sand and shit their pants until they get what they want. Why? Because fuck you, that's why.

Would it be nice to get it?

Sure, it would, assuming it allows their playback in-game. I'm the only freak on this earth who spends time listening to movie scores. Listening to those in game, I feel, would make the game a little more cinematic and engaging. Leading a group of Vekta to "The Bridge of Khazad-Dum" (the song in Fellowship where Gandalf dies) is something I'd really like to do.

Will it be patched in the near future?

I don't doubt that for a second. Within the day, Shuhei Yoshida (who's the absolute king of PR by the way, Penello sucks dick for a living) responded that he'd talk to the PS4 Dev team for MP3, DLNA, and External Hard Drive support implementation in the future, followed up by a tweet saying "Just had a very good conversation with the PS4 Dev Team. It's great to know so many people love the PS3's features." Adding that it "wasn't a business decision, it was just never added." I may be wrong here, but he wouldn't dig himself into that deep of a hole if there wasn't something coming regarding all this. People seem to forget the fact that the PS3 and DLNA hadn't even used in the same sentence at it's initial release, but lo and behold, it was added without a single issue.

It would be a whole different experience to play a next-gen Batman: Arkham game whilst listening to Hans Zimmer's score for The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, or God Of War while listening to the Gladiator Score.

I care for the fact that with no MP3 support means no support for custom soundtrack through MY OWN music.

I understand that there will be support for custom soundtrack through Music Unlimited, but looking at the list of songs available on it.... ugh. No offense to Top 40 listeners, but I'm not one of them.

That's the reason I'm miff'd about the fact the PS4 doesn't support MP3 playback. The PS3 sorta had it though support was up to devs, why can't this be expanded entirely on the PS4?
Seriously, playing a racing game, fighting game, or any sort of competitive style of game with the same music over and over is just boring.
