Microsoft Uses PC Battlefield 4 Footage in Xbox Promo

Microsoft is sponsoring a “Battlefield Showdown” tournament of sorts, and is promoting it on the official Xbox Youtube channel with an Xbox-branded trailer for the showdown. The problem? The game footage (despite having an Xbox logo watermarked on it), isn’t from the Xbox 360 or the Xbox One. It’s from the PC.

People forget that the leaked "review" build was 2 months old, it did not have half of the effects, multiplayer and kinect functionality which was confirmed by dice in a tweet. XO version will receive almost 2 gig patch on day one for BF4. Let's not be so fast to assume that final version will run in 720p. If we'd be looking at early ps4 version of some game running in low res and not having effects implemented you'd all be saying.. IT's ALPHA it's not the final build!

One day BallsEye, if not today, you're going to have to deal with the fact that Microsoft didn't create their gaming console with gaming as a priority. Due to this, its already lesser resources were allocated to non-gaming features before they even had a chance to be used by developers in their raw form.

It's been stated that Activision asked Microsoft to use the 10% OS allocated GPU portion as resources to help improve the game, and Microsoft said no stating that "it would result in the environment being too unstable." Pretty sad, for a gaming console.

Now if a game with engines like CoD are having trouble maintaining parity and requiring more GPU resources than are available, how do you think things are going to improve for devs doing a lot more with their games? Perhaps things will somehow improve but you'd have to be very positive to keep that hope going.

You are deluded BallsEye. Yes, the Xbox One version has Ambient Occlusion to be added, but it is in no way an Alpha build that was shown. Fact is, the One is harder to develop for, and Dice were no doubt pressed for time. We are very close to release, no way was the PS4 version final, and the One version Alpha.
The resolution has been confirmed, deal with it.
Oh, incidentally, you think a resource heavy feature like ambient occlusion can be added without affecting performance? The PS4 version already performed better with it included, the One version will actually drop back further unless some other trade-offs are made.
For a difference in performance THIS large in the first wave of games - and multi=platform games no less - it doesn't bode well for the future of the One...especially when developers really start upping the effects in their games and pushing the boundaries.

They have taken PC footage and passed it off as Xbox One footage (see the Xbox logo top right). That shows that MS aren't even confident in their version of BF4 enough to show it running in a trailer, thus, how are their customers supposed to be confident in their purcahse if the company they are buying it from isn't?

Who cares? I was watching the live stream of US vs EU match and the graphics looked amazing. If the xbox was using PC graphics to advertise the xbox 360 version, then yes, we have a problem. But after watching the X1 multiplayer match, it's pretty hard to tell the difference between PC and X1.

Of course, you are talking about watching a LIVE STREAM with compression at 720p? So the game isnt being rendered in 1080p you wouldn't know the difference I proved that with a gif I made over the COD 720p vs 1080p crap.

This is really NOTHING new. Call of Duty has done this for all their trailers as well. Especially for the DLC packs. They use footage of PC gameplay to promote it "On Xbox First"

That was PC footage you can tell by in the top right-hand corner that enter battle long logo. Unfortunately the narrative of this website is to post anything that remotely says MS is in some way dishonest. That commercial first aired before the official unveil of last week and therefore they could not use the footage of the Xbox one game which by the way looks better than the PS4 and PC. if you noticed their new commercial explicitly shows that it is running on Xbox one. The reason why this is such a big deal is because most cannot believe the game looks better than the PC/PS4.

Every single game available on all platforms will always be advertised on TV commercials running on a powerful PC its very normal, but this is not that this is for a an Xbox event with an Xbox logo but running on a PC it is wrong and dishonest.

I like the choice that Microsoft has made in some exclusives like Ryse and Sunset Overdrive. Having Remedy making exclusive games like Alan Wake and Quantum Break is a real coup. And, although Rare didn't make it on their own, Killer Instinct - and Kinect Sports Rivals which they did.

So it's clear to me that the Xbox One does have a visual aesthetic in its exclusive games that is distinct from Sony. The Xbox One seems a slightly more 'arcadey' console, it's about broad family fun, a nice party console too, and I am sure it will hit a lot of bullseyes in that. Sony are always a bit more esoteric, a different kind of artsy, the kind that would refuse to have a laugh about how pretentious it might sometimes get. (whereas Alan Wake might be in on the joke).

So the hardcore already gets that the Xbox brand has always been evolving beyond their fragging sessions. So why not just show the Xbox One graphics (instead of PC ones) and say that they are a work in progress because we know that the Xbox One is not as easy to program for? That's not the be all and end all - the PS2 and PS3 were diffficult to program and they sold 100 million ish.

The promotion for the event is using stock footage from PC. The event itself will be on X1 and show (obviously) X1 footage. It's sorta like when movie promos show scenes that aren't even in the actual movie - this isn't anything new in the advertising world... it may be misleading, but this isn't an MS thing, it's an advertising thing.

Of course none of this will matter or make sense to many, since people love bad news for MS. If this is newsworthy, then "my burger didn't look like it did in the commercial," should also be.
