5 video games that desperately need sequels

Darryl Linington from ITF Gaming writes: Over the past few days, I have been running through my collection in order to experience some great classics that I have either finished 5x, or didn’t finish at all. Among the masses, I found 5 video games that desperately need sequels … Whether created for this gen or the next-gen, these games really deserve some form of a sequel.

Red Dead Redemption - No doubt has a next gen sequel in development.

Rage - Sold very badly so i doubt it will get a sequel.

LA Noire - The developers (Team Bondi) have gone bankrupt.

SuperBlur3828d ago (Edited 3828d ago )

from wiki so i dont know if it's 100% accurate

"After liquidation, Team Bondi's assets and most of its staff went to Kennedy-Miller Mitchell. Some of the former employees have gone to work in different Rockstar studios. Rockstar retained the L.A. Noire intellectual property."

I don't think we'll see a new LA Noire for another while but later down the road a sequel will surely surface.

InMyOpinion3828d ago

I relly loved Rage. Did not get all the hate for it. It looked amazing and was a blast to play imo.

Perjoss3828d ago

Apart from a weak ending it was a fantastic game! I liked that id leaned slightly in a Bioshock direction with an in game currency and the ability to sell loot and the simple crafting system, it added a hint of RPG to the game.

The card game in the bar was also good fun and I liked that you could improve your deck by hunting for new cards out in the game world.

I really hope we get a sequel.

bloodybutcher3827d ago

yeah, i've been curious about Rage. wanted to try it, especially now when it got so cheap. but still don't know if i won't be wasting my time.

Freak of Nature3828d ago

A new Red Dead Redemption sequel of some kind is a must IMO. It has been 3 years and 7 months since it's release.

If not, then the team behind RDR has to be working on something, I just wait and wait to hear something, hopefully "finally" something will come up about what "Team RDR" are up to.

Love to see what Oddworld inhabitants are up to new IP wise. Beyond good and evil 2 should be coming,at least last I heard. Dark cloud and legends of dragoon series would be great to see again.

I liked Rage. There was something unique about that game that set it apart. The racing mechanic was fun and when the graphical textures worked properly it was a pretty game. The ideal behind Rage was solid too, shame how it all turned out.

there are OTHER games too that need a sequel desperately

1-Shadow man (ps2 sequel sucked)

2-Body Harvest

3-StarFox

4-blast corpse

5-Conker Bad Fur Day

6-F-zero

Perjoss3828d ago (Edited 3828d ago )

If the WiiU had a new StarFox and a new Zelda or Metroid at launch things could have been VERY different. I'm sure there is a very good business reason why they save the big franchise releases for after a console launch but I don't get it personally.

Imagine if they timed the new console launch with all the major franchises from day 1, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Stafox, F-Zero, Pilotwings and throw in a couple of party games to keep everyone else happy too.

clouds53828d ago

1. Metroid Prime

2. Half-Life

3. Red Steel II (I'm probably the only one though :D )

4. Freespace

5. and I agree about RDR, but I still haven't played the first one :D What they should do is release RDR2 on PC with the first one together as a bundle.

Zack_Fair3828d ago

Lollipop Chainsaw. *_*
Loved this game.

FrostyZipper3828d ago

I'm not seeing Vanquish on that list.

You left out The Darkness games bring those back

fan_of_gaming7d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing697d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming7d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno7d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming7d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

L.A. Noire And Bully — Rockstar's Lost Gems That Deserve A Sequel As Much As GTA

Hanzala from eXputer: "I do appreciate GTA 6, Rockstar, but if I could trade it for a new L.A. Noire or a Bully game, I'd do so in a heartbeat."

Skuletor12d ago

How are they lost? You can get L.A. Noire on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch and Bully is on the PS5 and Xbox Series too.

Psychonaut8512d ago

I want a new Manhunt game. But that will never happen.

Demetrius12d ago

Mfs are too sensitive nowadays and would cry instead of being concerned bout real world problems

Demetrius12d ago

Whenever gta 6 launch we won't be getting another rockstar title for another 10 years lol but on the positive side they bou to come back n show how open world supposed to be done 🔥

Skuletor12d ago

I won't expect any singleplayer DLC like IV's The Lost & Damned or The Ballad of Gay Tony after it launches either

Rockstar still strying to make GTA plus work
Should be $6 for the rdr game on sale not 6 bucks for a months playtime

Exvalos21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I hear ya, 49.99 or whatever the price on that game is, is a bit stiff seeing as it's just a port.

anast21d ago

Why would anyone rent this game?

jznrpg21d ago

One of my favorite games from PS3 generation. I have the remaster as there was a buy 2 get 1 free deal a while back but the price they are charging for the port is way too high although not surprising at all.
