MasonicGamer: Put down your pitch forks everyone, I’m not here to fight but rather here to question. This isn’t exactly a post I was looking to forward to writing but it’s something that’s been bugging for me a while, the last couple of years in fact. The arrival of Ocarina of Time for the 3DS made me wonder if this series was just riding off past success and now Wind Waker HD seems to confirm that as a yes.
The Legend of Zelda will always be one of my most cherished memories, I still recall the days of when I played the original on the NES. Whilst many games at the time were some kind of simple 2D side-scroller, Zelda was the first time I felt like I was embanking on an adventure.
20 years later, The Wind Waker’s Ganondorf is still The Legend of Zelda’s best villain.
Nintendo is a weird company. It has the most illustrious legacy of any single company in the medium and seldom chooses to take advantage of that fact. Countless classics are confined to their original platforms or only available through outdated retail models or a cheeky bit of emulation.
This holiday would've been great and it would've calmed my hunger for tears of the kingdom. It supposedly exists but why has it taken this long I wonder. Here's hoping it still releases before totk, maybe a trailer at the game awards and a shadow drop.
Wii U was such a great to play every 3D Zelda game and various 2D ones as well
It'd be nice if Switch caught up to that wealth of legacy content
Booted up WW HD through emulation on Deck. Forgot how much I like that game, it's so charming with how expressive Link is. Ninty has taken too long.
Nintendo wants the focus on tears of the kingdom. Though with these year Zelda old rumors I question if the collection ever existed for the Switch. Much like the Prime Trilogy that evolved into a remake or remaster of just Prime 1 in recent months.
Nintendo will be shutting down the eShop for the 3DS and Wii U completely in 2023. Makes sure to check out these games before they do.
If they're not important enough to be held on their own official storefront then they're not important enough to give your money to Nintendo.
Buy these, physically, used or simply emulate them.
This article comes off as nothing more than advertising games that Nintendo, themselves, don't care to offer you... buy now!
Wait hang on where all the outrage? I swear when Sony tried to do this with PS3 last year. There was outrage from all corners of the gaming universe.
Why does no one care Nintendo is doing it?
It's lame that it is shutting down. Now I feel rushed buying all the rpgs I missed out on the system.
You guys know that even archive.org has 3DS roms, and all other console roms. I'm downloading 846GB of 3DS roms and will add the best games to my soon to be soft modded New 3DS 😁. Might as well throw in DS and other emulators in there to. Guys this would be the best way to play and enjoy the 3DS. Just need to buy a bigger micro SD card and format it to FAT32, which you can if it's even 256GB or larger there are ways.
Zelda is the ultimate video game franchise it is not overrated.
I would like you to elaborate on how Skyward Sword was met with a "meh" reaction when it released. It was a GOTY contender and currently has a metacritic rating of 93. I know you mentioned the whole metacritic rating in your article, but games don't just magically average out that kind of score with horrible, dated designs and poor combat mechanics as you put it.
A "meh" game doesn't receive those kinds of accolades.
Wind Waker was missed by a lot of people who didn't own a Gamecube. This is a chance for a new generation to experience that game, with enhanced visuals.
And as for A Link Between Worlds being too much like A Link to the Past.... well it's a direct sequel to the game, don't you think it should share elements from its predecessor?
Obviously EVERY Zelda game is not going to be a hit with every person out there, as they usually try some unique things from time to time (Spirit Tracks, Phantom Hourglass), but those games were still well received by the majority.
Twilight Princess was what everyone craved, it was their Spaceworld 2000 demo turned to a real game. It was what everyone wanted Wind Waker to actually be, before they saw the cel-shaded look.
Regardless, if you don't feel as excited about playing the next Zelda adventure, then that's your opinion, and it's valid. I know that ALBW and the Wii U Zelda are both going to be fantastic experiences that I am so looking forward to.
Zelda and "overrated" don't mix.
Zelda is always a memorable experience; it doesn't get no where near the amount of hype as other series.
For me Zelda is overrated since A Link To The Past. The only Zelda I ever cared to finish is Twilight Princess, and that's probably because it was my first "serious" game that used the Wii Remote. I tried to play practically all the other Zelda games (including the 3DS remake of Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword) thinking "maybe this is the one that will get me to the series", but never played them more than a few hours.
