Why I haven't Given up on the Wii U

The Wii U has gotten a bad rap, and maybe rightfully so. Josh Miller of VGU.tv delves into why he still has high hopes for the Wii U.

Neonridr3830d ago

Interesting read. I think there are far too many great Wii U games (both released and upcoming) not to pass up on.

I fully plan on purchasing either an XB1 or PS4 next year sometime, but I still have my Wii U for the great 1st and 2nd party titles that you won't find on the other two consoles.

ZodTheRipper3830d ago (Edited 3830d ago )

Which great games? lol
I'm planning on buying one with the new 3D Mario game but I researched a bit and found, that no other Wii U game interests me right now. But since Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Zelda are in development, I know it'll be worth it.

Neonridr3830d ago (Edited 3830d ago )

Personally I found ZombiU, New Super Mario Brothers U, Scribblenauts, Lego City Undercover, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends and Wonderful 101 to be awesome games. And as for 3rd party, Black Ops 2, AC3, Batman, Splinter Cell, Mass Effect 3 and Need for Speed Most Wanted are all great games, regardless if you can get them on the 360 or PS3. That doesn't stop them from being great games, especially if you hadn't played them before.

I am looking forward to Scribblenauts Unmasked, Super Mario 3D World, Sonic, Ghosts, AC4, Batman Arkham Origins, Mario Kart, Zelda, Smash Brothers, X, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong, Watch Dogs plus any other 1st party IPS that I haven't mentioned yet (Metroid, F-Zero, etc)..

Some good indie titles on the system as well - Trine 2, Nano Assault Neo, Mighty Switch Force 1 & 2, Ducktales, Cloudberry Kingdom, not to mention some others that recently were approved through Kickstarter..

If nothing like that appeals to you, then by all means, don't get the system. But for someone to say there isn't anything to play is a little bit of a stretch..

ZodTheRipper3830d ago (Edited 3830d ago )

Almost all these titles are uninteresting if you had a PS3/360 already. I'm not trying to hate here and I'm just talking for myself, but I think that that's exactly the reason why the Wii U isn't succesful (yet).

LOL_WUT3830d ago

It'll be worth the wait but you got to take into consideration that Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Zelda don't even have release dates. And theres also the possibility that one of those games might end up being delayed.

If you like the current offerings then by all means go ahead and buy one but, if you only want it for one game (Mario 3D World) then i'd recommend you wait till 2014. Also don't expect much in the eShop as it's lacking with hardly any new content. ;)

PopRocks3593830d ago

@LOL_WUT

"It'll be worth the wait but you got to take into consideration that Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Zelda don't even have release dates."

Lying as usual, huh? Smash Bros. and Mario Kart are both slated for next year, with the latter specifically coming out in April.

"Also don't expect much in the eShop as it's lacking with hardly any new content. ;)"

How many indie games are slated for Wii U again? Dozens? Not to mention all of the recent Kickstarter games. So once again, you're wrong.

deafdani3830d ago (Edited 3830d ago )

@PopRocks359:

that april release date for Mario Kart 8 is, to my knowledge, just a rumor and it's not been confirmed officially by Nintendo yet. That game, along with Smash Bros, are just slated to release in 2014, with Mario Kart having a release timeframe of "Spring 2014", if I recall correctly. That does not counts as a solid release date, so I don't really know why you're calling Lol_Wut a liar here.

I can agree with you on the eShop thing, although I also think that Lol_Wut was probably talking about the CURRENT state of the eShop, not its future. And while it definitely has a few good gems in both indie games and classic titles, it still has vast room for improvement, so I can kind of see his point here, even if I don't agree with him completely.

And, Jesus, man... I see you replying to Lol_Wut a lot, and most of the time you just retort to call him a troll or a liar or whatever. Why exactly does Lol_Wut's comment make your blood boil so easily? I personally think his comments are a bit extreme, but no more than that, and many times he says the truth. He gets on your nerves way too easily.

You are one of the very few people that I really respect as a commenter here (because 95% of N4G's community is a cesspool of ravid haters and fanboys), but your reactions to Lol_Wut's various comments are amusing. You could correct him when he says something inaccurate (which he sometimes does, and I don't honestly think it's intentional trolling, but just misinformation), but calling him a troll just because he doesn't share your points of view, and ends every one of his posts with a " ;) " (which a lot of people find annoying), is just a bit too much. Come on, I know for a fact that you're better than that. I suggest that you cool your head off before replying to him on anything, dude, you really come across as a bit too hostile sometimes. It doesn't really suits you.

I agree, I've got plenty to play on Wii U and 3DS for the holidays. I cancelled my PS4 pre-order today and will buy one early next year when (hopefully) the library will be decent.

Yep3830d ago

Unless it's a case where we haven't heard from Nintendo since E3 and it doesn't sound like they are doing anything more with the Wii U, counting the console out just seems like an irrational thing to do. Of course, not everyone thinks rationally.

Neonridr3830d ago

Cut the power? How did they cut the power? They're Animals!

Last_Boss3830d ago

For those who truly understand and appreciate Nintendo's IPs, will wait out the so-called drought. There's plenty to play to feel like Nin is cancerous.

Sheesh

josephayal3830d ago

bad time to grab a Wii U, I will be buying one within a few years, maybe 5

Yep3830d ago (Edited 3830d ago )

I feel the same way about PS4 and Xbox One. Not many games I want on those systems and the ones I do want are on PC and/or Wii U.

josephayal3830d ago

I agree with you buying game a console on launch is terrible theres hardly any games, but I don't regret buying a PS2 at launch actually

LOL_WUT3830d ago

Might as well just wait for the Wii U's successor if you're planning on waiting that long. ;)

Yep3830d ago

@josephayal

Hey, I got my Wii in 2008. ;)

Misaka_x_Touma3830d ago

no wonder ps3 starting kicking up in 2009.

I normally don't laugh at subtle troll responses, but this one was funny.

Nintendo Is A Bad Company, But We Can't Help Loving Them Anyway

TG: “Most of us also grew up with Nintendo, likely forming a nostalgic connection with games that have long been crowned as our personal favourites. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was an experience that shaped my view on open world fantasy, and Super Mario 64 changed my life like it did for millions of others. These titles have earned their place in history, and remain loved to this day for so many worthwhile reasons. We replay them and beg for remasters all while delving into their worlds time and time again because they mean that much to us. It’s a shame then that the company behind them often kicks its own sweet darlings to the curb.”

I never got the love for Nintendo games personally. The annoying vocalizations and ugly character designs do nothing for me.

Another very weird article.

Nintendo is a great company by almost all possible normal measures. The biggest one being: their own staff is happy, and they seem to be very happy, well compensated and retain rate is solid. They are also financially very stable, profitable, and cash rich, so shareholders love them.

Overall it is an extremely creative group of people, and their mission statement is fantastic as well "to put smiles on the faces of everyone we touch. We do so by creating new surprises for people across the world to enjoy together." The social impact is also massive, not to speak culturally. Additionally, they have a really strong core business, high customer retention rate and loyalty. Nintendo's reputation is extremely good, I think in the US alone they are 9th most reputable company, their customer service is better than the average company. Plus, the press gives them a pass, because they are Nintendo. But there's a reason why they do that, it's not "because they are Nintendo", there are more layers to the argument.

Then, then there's the random negative gamers online...and their "reputation" which is inside their heads. And their western ideas of how a Japanese company should behave or what they should do. But they have no right to ask a company to do anything for them, because they can vote with their wallets.

There's a small vocal community online who dislikes Nintendo for what they are, but then again, there's always a small vocal community that dislikes something.

Nintendo also disagrees with the Western world about IP, but most people call Westerners "hidoi!" when they emulate Tears of the Kingdom and do not experience it the way Nintendo wanted them (even if it is not the best visual way), because it is a matter of principle to them (Japanese are very much against anything close to plagiarism, and there are laws that are tight about creative works copying etc.)

The Western Braveheart "freedoom!" shouters need to understand that it is not an American company, nor they need to behave like one. They can have their own fights based on their principles (against emulation). And they very well may lose the battle with that and change, or find a new audience.

In the end, it is so very simple. Don't buy the products if you don't like a company, but there's no need to paint a picture that is unrealistic about Nintendo either.

MadLad323d ago

I hate virtually everything about their business practices, actually. Suing everybody for virtually anything, shooting down fan projects, games they never let devalue, their online infrastructure and how they handle BC.

They're lucky they make great games, because that's the only thing I feel they do right.

gold_drake322d ago

my issue with them, is the complete refusal to have decent tech for us.

and their odd censorship and lawsuits for modders.
