Drive Club Officially Delayed To Early 2014

Playstation Blog: "SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DRIVECLUB and DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014. I think it was the right decision. If the game needs work, I see no reason to rush it out at launch and get bad reviews that could possibly kill the brand new franchise.

They were "targeting" 60 fps when getting this game ready for launch. Now that it's been delayed to early 2014, a constant 60fps looks more realistic. It's a blow to the launch lineup, but I doubt anyone was clamoring over a racing game like this.

What do you mean we weren't clamoring for this? Other than Killzone I was looking forward to playing this almost everyday. I had preordered the Watchdogs bundle and was maybe going to get the full edition of Driveclub, but thats 2 games I wanted to buy that are now delayed.

I know Killzone will be amazing but I wanted something else to play. I may have to just cancel my preorder now because I really needed a racer. I only owned one racing game this generation and now my dreams have been crashed :(. Killzone+Driveclub would have kept me busy for a few months, but now I don't know how long we will have to wait for The Order.

This sucks big time. I know you hardcore fanboys will vote me down, even though I hate Xbox and will never buy another M$ product, I may have to cancel my preorder because I'll only have one big game to play.

Personally I'm glad. It lightened the blow on my wallet for the month of November. Getting both the PS4 and the XB1 made money tight because of the game purchases that I wanted day 1. The systems have been paid off for months but I procrastinated on games. This and watch dog delays were perfect. I was going to get the boxed version of Drive Club. Now it's BF4, KZ:SF, Knack, (debating AC4) for PS4 and KI and Dead R 3 for One on day one respectively. Plus I can still eat regularly.

Yani... hold the phone. We are getting Contrast and Resogun at Launch with the console (yeah, you need to Dload and yes, I am already a Plus member) but I don't recall other systems doing that.

Actually i was really looking forward to every ps4 player having this game on day one to play online... This was one of my most anticipated titles for the holiday season, just because you may not care for a racing title does not mean other people feel the same, this is a huge letdown.

I agree that it sucks. Some will sugar coat it, but my pre-order is stacked with shooters now. At least we have Gran Turismo 6 coming to the PS3. Watch Dogs and Drive Club being delayed in the same week (or so) is crappy. There's still enough to keep me confident with my pre-order, but having those two games delayed was a kick in the nuts.

What Next?

As a day one PS4 buyer this week is a bad one. Granted there have been many great ones this year for Sony. But a bad week is a bad week.

Driveclub has been pushed so much by Sony and a big selling point for continuing PS+. Watch Dogs was sponsored heavily by Sony. Sony must be wandering what the heck is going on with these developers when Sony have bent over backwards to accommodate them.

Games are always delayed. We all know that. But launch titles should be ready at launch. It is a wee bit embarrassing. Lets all be honest here!

Are blind even Penello acknowledged that there were more games on Ps4 that were running at 1080p 60fps then X1. Not too mention Crytek had to rewrite code on the X1 to run properly. Both consoles will be ready but judging by a lot of other games we can see PS4 is ready. I'll say one thing, I'm no fanboy...but during E3 presentations, whatever comes out of Sony/Nintendo/Microsofts mouth I take with a grain of salt until the product is sitting on store shelves for me to purchase. All 3 companies are guilty of stringing us gamers along, and right when they have your pre order (Money) they release news months later and say

The 3 scenarios that come to mind on how I was bamboozled by all 3 companies who sold me a lie.

1) SONY: KILLZONE E3 presentation for PS3, Last Guardian, Final Fantasy Versus.....
2) Microsoft: Project MILO
3) Nintendo: ZELDA HD Wii U, instead they release a remake of a Zelda game I played on my GameCube, yet the year before the Wii U released you showcased an HD version of Zelda only to turn around and not mention it anymore.

Yet it never matters in the end. A gamer will wait to play the game he/she is interested in, regardless how long it is delayed :-)

Btw. Driveclub release date are early 2014. So, roughly january or february. And these months are basically the launch months of PS4. So, Driveclub is still a launch game.

Shame for PS4 and that's coming from an mainly Xbox player. I do think it's poor that they build something up for months then delay it late on after most PS4 preorders have been made.

I couldn't possibly elaborate but let's just say the site in question is not highly regarded here and the source is from a claimed multi plat developer. Anyway it's just a rumour no facts to back it up as yet. The suggestion is also that devs got access to final hardware quite late into their programmes and that final optimisation tweaks are required in many cases.

DriveClub is a retail game with a ton of content and a number of dynamic systems, but of course you would look at ONE way it is being delivered to gamers and pretend that is somehow a bad thing and spells the quality of the game. For me it won't make a much of a difference, I'm only purchasing the console in Q1 or Q2 2014. Too bad about the gamers that purchase the console at launch, and want to play a racing game.

Uh there were people like myself actually cool with the Watchdogs delay . It was a pain having to deal with that many high profile titles even if multi generation and platforms , right at launch . The biggest issues are for those who pre-ordered bundles with WD (or driveclub now for that matter) .

Besides two sides can play this game . According to many xbox fanboys , Driveclub was crap and irrelevant ... and now that's its delayed suddenly it's a major game from Sony's lineup that is gone ? Yeah right .

Anyway i saw nothing yet that made me want to purchase the game , barely a month from release and still no footage that looked like a complete game . So it's not that surprising , yet still dissapointing i guess for those looking forward to it .

Personaly I buy sony's consoles primairily for the exclusives which typically in the middle years of a consoles life they will have many top quality titles more so than their competitors and they have new IP's periodically throughout the consoles life. This gem with the PC architecture I think having more power will show.... the yeild devs get from the hardware should be hgher to start with and increase at a faster rate as they are so used to wokring with the tech.
Although MS crtainly have their launch line up stronger history says sony will within a year-2 years have far more games releasing exclusively like clockwork through the years.

Well there you have it folks, the first official mistep from Sony coming up to next gen but expected it because sony insiders on gaf were saying it was more than likely 90% true. Was hoping for a clean run but that was hoping for a miracle. I'm disappointed but it doesn't affect my future purchase in the slightest, surprisingly.

Bad news for Sony fans all round though.

edit: On the bright side there's still decent exclusives you've probably not played still coming out or have been out on PS3(providing you've not sold it for a PS4)so technically there's still a lot of games to keep you busy. Not really the same deal for the 360.

I'm in no rush for next gen. i have too many games so polish it up guys. It's way better to have a game with better reviews afterwards than it is to get lower scores right now due to lack of polish.

Im glad devs are delaying their games for more polish instead of rushing them out for the launch window. I wish a few more devs would do that (BF4 for example).

I love how its suddenly ALL ABOUT LAUNCH GAMES, you would have thought people would have learned from the PS3's cycle about how launches don't mean jack. Look at the end of the Xbox 360's cycle compared to the PS3's, the PS3 has MUCH more support whereas at launch it was a different story.

Something doesn't add up. DriveClub has been in dev for a long time and they knew the launch window.

I think problems are arising from when devs are getting final hardware. They have been using dev kits quite late into proceedings.

A console purchase under normal circumstances lasts you a generation. Why does it matter when you buy it? To justify a launch lineup? If you're trying to tell people to wait until early next year and keep playing all the great games Sony is pushing out for PS3, then that's some strong advice. God knows i've got a hellish backlog.

It's actually smart on Sony's behalf (in some ways). GT6 has obviously been in development for a while (PS3) and they have an install base of 80 Million to sell the game to....

Driveclub i think was a reaction to them finding out about Forza 5 being a launch title for XB1.....and obviously they just couldn't get the game ready to ship in time for launch.

GT6 will be perhaps ported to PS4 next year IMO?

In essence Sony want you to buy GT6 twice which is similar to what i think Rockstar will do with GTA V.....Upgraded graphics etc / GOTY edition next year.

are 4 of the 6 games I was looking at for next gen for the next 4 months. 2 have gone. Still plenty of f2p games indies and BF4 or whatever shooter you desire. But it is always good to have a racing game from day one.

Its a shock, but when I look at what is to come I'll get excited once again. I trust Sony and they have studios that produce amazing games. I am so looking forward to Infamous SS and I really do have loads of Vita and great PS3 games to play as well.

The world of gaming is awesome for me right now. So much to play and look forward to. Still, if this was XB1 we would be ripping them apart so at least for this week us PS4 owners to be are fair game...

One thing is bugging me about how people are talking about launch games.

Why is everyone assuming that every launch game will be a great game (9/10 10/10 reviewed. It is not just about the number games, it is about how fun they are and how much replayability they have. Any title could review less then favorably most likely Knack and ryse will. Theoretically all of sonys game could suck, same thing goes with Microsoft. How are you judging launch line up before you have completed a single game.

Actually I think Knack will get good reviews. It's simplistic, yet immersive. It's not a game for everyone, but I think undependent on age people will enjoy it. Personally, this is one of the games I'm looking forward to the most. I love old school games in a modern package.

Ryse however? Not sure in its current status - I think Crytek should delay it and polish it up. We need variety and deep in such a game, not just simple buttong mashing.

EDIT: Yeah, most people think that the launch games will receive great review scores automatically. I think not. Killzone 2 got 91 on Metacritic, meanwhile Killzone got 84. Looking at Killzone: Shadow Fall so far I bet that the game will receive great score than that. Graphics is awesome, AI great, the gameplay looks fresh with a lot of more variety than its successors.

Only time will tell. Either way, looking forward to next-gen!

In the coming weeks I would like to hear what they are struggling with, or what they are trying to improve. The online structure, the framerate, number of opponents, what? They always said they were aiming for 60 fps but untill a month ago all we saw was 30 fps, and no races with a full grid. Have you looked at the comparison from the old to the new? It is pretty much unanimous that the game looks better now. They lowered the "polys" in the main character but then added a ton of detail.

Ryse has been in development for a long time as it was originally going to be a 360 Kinect game. From what I've seen the game looks great and what I played at PAX was fun.

The fact you even suggest Ryse needs to be delayed for polish doesn't make sense based on the info above so that might be why you got disagrees.

As I sit here and watch the squabbles, I've come to the conclusion that I just dont care that its delayed. Does it prove that the system was rushed..No, does it prove they jumped the gun in offering this as a launch title..maybe/yes. What it comes down to is in the last month of rush rush rush to get things done, not all things fall into place. From what I have seen is MS took the heat earlier and Sony was real quiet for a long spell. I've reached a point surprisingly where this news actually makes me somewhat sad. Kinda makes me wish it could be like the old days where these delays weren't as commonplace and the big guns weren't so eager to promise us the world just to snatch those promises right out of the gamers hands just as they were about to come true. I know a lot of Sony fans were waiting for this title so all I can say now to them is to be patient, delays usually make for better results in the end. Hopefully this will be the last delayed title we see before launch.

I don't know man, the psone/N64 era had a lot of disappointing delays. I remember Ocarina of Time getting delayed repeatedly. It also seems like MGS suffered many setbacks, too. Funny enough, my two most anticipated games in my lifetime, dropped within weeks of each other. Neither disappointed and it was EPIC! That was my favorite Holiday of gaming, EVER! They have all been slightly disappointing since. Haha. I love living in a first-world country.

2) The game will be fun in single-player

3) 60 fps, so I can stop reading people whining about 30 fps (which is fine imo)

But if we look on the bright side, we get an interesting looking game (Contrast), which I don't think would've gotten as much attention otherwise.

It also means Sony decided against crunching & gave the devs freedom to finish their game in their own time.

The only thing the devs did wrong is mention it. It happens with any game a month before launch. People are looking for anything to jump on x1 hate. It goes for sony too. If they get a rash of bad news you will see devs and rumors coming out of the woodwork and saying the console it shite. The only reason they stay quiet is because of the feared backlash. When the hate starts its hard to stop. Just ask sony with the ps3. Thats why sony is going to great lengths to make sure nothing but good is printed about the console. With this...I would say sony is happy about the preorders and dont see this as that damning since they are currently financing gt6 on ps3.

Knack looks like a joke and everything else is multiplatform, albeit the list of indies that most people won't even bother with. I can see people jumping ship already. Here I was beating myself up over the decision to purchase an X1 and perhaps making the worst choice of my life. Glad I stuck to my guns. What a blow for PS+ subscribers. Ideally it seems that current gen should not be forgotten so soon. It'll have the new Battlefield, Ghosts and Fifa if I remember correctly. Such a poor start to next-gen. I am New to posting on this forum but have been quietly and silently reading post, articles for months now. Mostly just getting a vibe and feel for the community. I have to say this I am new to this forum but have been gaming for at least 30 plus years. So with that said let me clear the air for the Mature and Immature folks that post on this forum. You can love a console, be very supportive and even loyal to it. You can respect other consoles and respect people views without being inconsiderate.

However and I say this not being mean there is a growing band of what I call Fan Girls. They differ from Fan Boys because they are extreme in their views and have tunnel vision. You do not have to be a Fan Girl! Fan Girls are easily upset and will down vote you when you make a comment that hurts their feelings. Fan Girls are the first to jump on news and spew unofficial information to feel good about their game purchase or console purchase. They are on both sides of the fence. Fan Girls are annoying and have to always have the last word. They do not know how to debate or have their own formed idea or opinions. Fan Girls multiply and will gang up on an opinion to feel good. They will read one post and attack until the person with an opinion no longer feels like sharing ideas or thoughts. If I call you one that's because you have exhibited all the traits that make up a Fan girl. I do not care that you will down vote me or call it trolling. Facts are Facts. Truths are Truths. Again I have all three current consoles right now and enjoy them I have both new consoles reserved. I will enjoy both the Xbox 1 and the PS4 equally at times, and at other times prefer one over the other due to releases. I will though own and enjoy both.. Starting with Ryse and Dead Rising 3, Kill Zone, Infamous 3 and so on. What irks me is that Fan Girls have been bashing both systems but the PS4 Fan Gils far outweigh the Xbox 1 Fan Girls. I call them how I see them and guess what Fan Girls are always angry. I am Neutral meaning I don't care about delays, 1080P vs. 900P, I don't care about 30 fps vs. 60 fps. I want enjoyable experiences, great epic games and Fun adventures. I care that you mutually own up to the information that is put out there. I care that you learn that both consoles can coexist and thrive and push each other forward. You can also reduce your paranoia about cameras spying on you. It is ok to envy another console or their features because the console you have does not share the same feature. There are differences!!!! I am neutral about gaming but biased against Fanboys to a small degree but severely dislike FanGirls, because I love gaming and will always love and enjoy gaming. Really enjoyed reading your comment and agree with 95% of it. It's great you have the money to get all 3 systems but MOST people can't do that so to conclude not having 3 systems is a poor way to enjoy gaming is pretty harsh.

I've been gaming for over 30 years as well and you know only a hand full of exclusive games are even worth their price per system during their respective life cycles.

Me, personally, rate the Xbox as the better system at this point. It's had the most influence over the industry over it's lifecycle and has introduced brand new games that initially were exclusive and now on Sony, that's something to be proud of. Just think, if it wasn't for Microsoft and Bungie's Halo Sony fans would not be excited about Destiny. Again, Microsoft pushed gaming for the last 10 years while Sony had to play the reactionary role.

On the other hand, Sony hasn't really influenced the industry with it's offerings unless your a Playstation Owner. Most of their best games are of the single player experience and does not have great replay value.

But, in the end, you are right with everything else you said, Fangirls are annoying and most of them have to be minors, at least I hope so, grown ups acting like that would be very embarrassing.

How can you knock one system and have never owned it. There is a difference in owning a system and playing it at a friends home. Ownership means you have a vested interest in it so you want to see it succeed. When you only own one console that persons views are clouded by an internal vested interest in only that console. IK am fortunate to own a number of consoles in my life. However I tend to make wise choices like payment plans, barter and trade ups and buying used. Sony fanboys are truly amazing. They are the only consumers on planet earth that will spend their money on a system to play games later. They are the only consumers on planet earth that gives a company money and pledge loyalty to wait on a return. These consumers have to be mostly kids telling their parents to buy the PS4 for them, no way in hell will an adult purchase a system just to wait for game several months later. The launch lineup for the PS4 is garbage and they know it. If not for 3rd party help what is actually left?

As someone who is getting both, this is really shit news for PS4...... This basically only leaves KZ and Knack as the exclusives, if you take out the games already on PC, multiplats and indies......

I've been gaming on Sony machines since the beginning, but come on Sony (only) fans, don't just slag MS and then give Sony a free pass when one of 3 AAA launch exclusives are delayed..... This is crap...

But sometimes it is not worth getting the console at launch because there is so little exclusive games. At least in a PC environment the games go through an evolution and if you get a new PC you can increase the quality and make the game fresh again. The true beauty of backwards compatability.

I do not know why ppl are getting so hyped for a racing game anyways. I would understand if it had a track record like Gran Turismo, but ppl are hyping the game on pure imagination!.

One thing I realized about racing games, you only find out the true feeling after you really play it for 2>3 hours.

I am sure I am going to buy it down the line "depending" on the general public review AFTER it is released.

For the mean time NO game has challenged GT series in terms of Racing game, even Forza ;)(for consoles)

One thing I realized about many games delayed..... NOT all but at times they are trying to push it out the door because they are behind in schedule a bit.

Look at Gran Turismo, they had strong enough Fan Base to buy introduce a prologue because the FULL game was not ready. Although I enjoyed playing it, It felt incomplete altogether ( I am not talking about the content) but the overall feel of the racing dynamics.

No real racing fan would knock Forza or GT on quality of simulation. Both are top shelf.

I played MANY racing games, every since Need For Speed on PC on many platforms. Many Arcade and Many sim like games after. It was really NFS that started me into the Racing craze.

GT4 alone I put in 250+ hours and GT5 about 150. Yes I was won of those who bought an Xbox which INCLUDED Forza just to see how it was. Sorry to say this but GT still felt JUST right as a racing "sim" like game. Forza felt on the myeh side because It simply did not feel as good as a GT game

If there were so many GT lovers who moved onto Forza, but why doesnt the PERCENTAGE of sales on all the Forza GAmes reflect this?? It's because ppl still prefer GT.

Forza offers the best racing game for the Xbox universe but IMO its not as good as a GT game, and many others I am sure concur.

When will people ever learn... Remember Lair, Haze, Killzone 2, God of War III, LBP, GT5... And my personal favorite... Last Guardian...

Sony intentionally announces games early to make it seem like they have more exclusives then they really do. Then, they keep stringing fans along for months and even years (I'm thinking Last Guardian might hit a decade) by saying "Look at this shiny new game we are working on". By the time the game ships it is no technical wonder because everyone else is shipping just as good stuff.

The funny thing is that they even use it as a selling feature to gamers... "We're just delaying because we want to ship a well polished game"... BS... They are lying to because the competition is much more reliable on ship dates.

I'm not saying delays don't happen on other consoles. But Sony does it regularly rather than as an exception. At some point people should ask themselves... "Why does Sony always set unrealistic ship dates?"

They never gave a firm date on when those games came out.

I would have thought it was something to do with Gran Turismo 6 being released early December, 2 Sony racers too close together, this way GT6 gets to sell more.

As an example, i was going to skip GT6 because Driveclub looks alot better and is Nextgen, but now i will probably get them both.

If i was a driving/racer nut i would get them both if they would have been released on the same day, with a steering wheel and foot pedals and possibly a car door.
