A Horror Game From 2001 Still Has The Best Ending In Gaming History

It's not enough to have multiple endings in a video game to make it feel like a satisfying conclusion to the hours you'd just spent making your way there. There's a real art to constructing an ending, and throwing three options you can click your way to with one button doesn't suffice.

One of the best endings, indeed.

Absolutely one of the greatest horror games ever made.

If not the greatest. I remember getting it and playing on release--I knew it was something truly special. All these years later, it is still fondly remembered.

all silent hill games are great !

AnotherProGamer3839d ago

well not all only 1-4 stuff like Downpour, Shattered Memories, and Book of Memories weren't good

Benjammin253839d ago

Shattered memories was good dude.

Book of memories sucked...

Not just the best ending, but the best atmosphere, awesome symbolism, best music, best monster design, hell Pyramid Head became a goddamn mascot for crying out loud. Such a shame the way the franchise and the survival horror genre has become in general these days, not to mention the HD remake disaster.

Long live that hypothetical 'Team Silent' that gave birth to this baby.

A few things. The fact that you said "hypothetical" Team Silent lets me know you're also a big/real fan. Maybe people are ignorant to that fact. Kudos. I agree 100% SH2 is to this day still a benchmark. I always held SH3 in extremely high regard as well. Even visually SH3 is amazing to this day. What the hell happened?! Downpour was SO bad it's the only SH game I haven't even beaten.

yeah I know at least that much that there was no set team for SH games, but the different teams of people who spawned the first 3, maybe the 4th as a cry for help, really made some decent psychological survival horror games.

Downpour was at least creative in its own way, using a lot of water symbolism to create the nightmare world etc even though I thought it took too much imagery from the first film(the barbed wire etc). So far that's been the best 'western' SH game, if it can even claim that title.

To be fair, The Room sucked too.

I know it wasn't supposed to be a Silent Hill canon entry at the outset, but it still sucked.

Darksiders 2's ending was probably the worst
