The Graphical evolution of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 has been huge

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have been around for a long time; eight years for the Xbox 360 and seven for the PS3. Because this console generation’s cycle has been so lengthy, there is a huge graphical difference between titles released at the beginning of both consoles’ lives and of those released at the end

Sure, they did see the bar set by the 1st party devs and thus they had to improve to stay in business so your statement are obvious but yet I have not seen one title that reached or surpassed the best of those of the first party devs.

I think people missing my point. I totally agree that first party have looked the best.. uncharted 1 looked great and Uncharted 3 looked even more amazing. But the differences in graphical fidelity seem more minor ( or less jarring ) than say looking at COD2 vs BLOPS2.

I can't imagine what this generation is going to bring. I remember saying that there was no way MGSIV was going to be surpassed. I was totally wrong! But I wish the biggest improvement this generation is about AI and technical aspects more that graphics.

It is amazing to see the difference between 07 and now. I do think the graphics will carry on getting better but I agree the AI and technical side needs to improve. I do think this is one advantage the xbox one has over the PS4 and WiiU at the moment with the cloud and seeing what Turn10 are doing with the AI in forza 5. I want to see a lot more different types of games get pushed this gen as for me some of the most under rated games this gen were some of the best. Alan Wake and Split/Second spring to mind.

That Said I am loving the games on the WiiU at the moment as its a nice break to play games like Pikmin 3, Wonderful101 and Windwaker HD (as I never played the Gamecube versions and I don't have a clue why as its amazing) as FPS games just bore me quickly now after hammering them for 8 years.

The first Bioshock still stacks up well against the latest offerings this gen in my opinion (I am bias though, I am a total Bioshock 1 geek)
Infinite is nice but the leap between the original and that is much morw muted when compared to halo 3/4 uncharted 1/3

You shouldn't expect this big of graphics leap when it comes to next-generation consoles. They are X86 architecture, meaning they're already easy to develop for, it's not going to take developers years to fully understand how to develop for these consoles and maximise it's efficiency (e.g. Cell Processor). Developers will become more efficient at the hardware and graphics will of course improve, but not substantially.

That is not true, in my opinion. Even optimising for the relatively weak CPU will deliver great increases over time. Using the 8 cores and really multi threading efficiently could be delivering great results over the consoles' life cycle. Then techniques for putting traditionally CPU centric work loads onto the PS4 GPU with many ROPs, plenty of RAM, it is looking good.

I honestly can say I wasn't to impressed with 360 games at first. PS2 cross 360 and PS3 games weren't a big leap. But with that being said. I believe the same could be said here.

I think devs just learned tricks and different way to harness the power of 360 and PS3 in which they have through the years.

I think my love for graphics started and ended with this gen. I know ill be proven wrong with next gen though. Example: I played the demo of Beyond, and wound up with Ellen Page sitting on my face. I'm definitely ok with this.

For me when Uncharted came along especially the 2nd series, that was such an historic moment in gaming I believe.

That game moved the goal post in such an enormous way forward.

I still remember how i dropped my jaw when I saw Uncharted 2 on the my screen, and spent good 10 minutes walking on the snow to see the snow trail effect on Nathan's feet, then on the chapter when Nathan fighting on the moving train, I stayed on the spot and observe the moving environment trying to spot how they loop the bamboo forest and couldn't find the looping pattern!

Then when GoW3 came out... omg...

Which is why it is pointless for console players to argue over better graphics. PCs will always have the edge (although I would rather sit back in a sofa and controller than spend a weeks pay on the new card & spend the night hunched over a keyboard)
