“Classist, sexist, and racist” — A Cheap Ploy for Pageviews

Medium: "It’s been 15 long years since The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released, and critics—many of whom grew up with the game—have had plenty of positive things to say about the game over the years. It’s a critical darling, and one that’s well-earned its legion of fans. One Salon writer, Jon Hochschartner, has taken the opportunity to, instead of adding his voice to the positive chorus, denigrate the game as “classist, sexist, and racist.” As a final flavoring of dissent, he even calls out the game’s effrontery to animal rights."

"A Cheap Ploy for Pageviews" which Medium.com has now appropriated for its own use. Ah, the magic of rebuttals.

HelpfulGamer3847d ago

"A Cheap Ploy for Pageviews" is probably detrimental to the freedom of sexy expression, seeing the next-gen feel less sexy than current-gen.

Pageviews don't matter on Medium.com.

The more you pay attention to those who choose to get offended over nothing, the worse this trend will continue. Let them be offended by themselves while the rest of us enjoy playing video games.

Ogygian3847d ago (Edited 3847d ago )

If we keep legitimately arguing against their points, this will indeed happen. Not only don't they get it, but they don't listen. Explaining freedom of beliefs in media, or the fairness of the free market to a feminist, socialist or internationalist is like explaining evolution to a creationist. Their beliefs are too deep set and their minds are closed.

To be honest, I'd like to see less of these approved.

Even though the article in itself is a kind of a ploy for page views... I agree with it soooo damn much

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the anti-Breath of the Wild

Polygon: "To get back to the way Ocarina made us feel, it was necessary to reject almost everything about it."

Ocarina of Time changed my life forever, such a masterpiece

Zeldafan64118d ago

Hard to believe it's 25 years old already.

Cacabunga118d ago

The feeling this game gave me the first time i had my hands on it is indescribable.. i still get the chill from that day..
botw is like a spin off of the series.. it’s fun but with many flaws and the most important which is Zelda formula isn’t there..

FinalFantasyFanatic117d ago

I can't even remember how many times I played through OoT, I finished that game, and collected everything so many times.

Vits118d ago

I generally agree with the author here. However, if I had to point out a single game as the 'anti-Breath of the Wild,' that would be Majora's Mask. Pretty much everything in that game is interconnected, relies on something that the player must have done previously, is timed, and can be considered a puzzle in itself.

gold_drake118d ago

but still considered the best of the seties.

i would have liked botw to be more like ocarina.

franwex118d ago (Edited 118d ago )

25 years from today whatever Zelda is out people would too be looking fondly at Breath of the Wild.

Ah the more simple times of the 2020s.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time - A Legend 25 Years in the Making

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time debuted 25 years ago, forever changing the face of video games and becoming a legend of its own.

Number1TailzFan150d ago

I used a guide to beat part of it but some of the rest myself, still enjoyed it regardless. Too bad they didn't stick with this kind of gameplay for the rest of the series as I would prefer it over what they're doing now.

TheBrainZ150d ago

A definitive moment in video game history. Played it countless times, and Zelda was the best reason to own an N64.

FinalFantasyFanatic150d ago

I played through OoT so many times on the 64, then I bought it on the 3DS before the Eshop shut down. I wish we could have a Zelda collection like we did for Mario, I still can't believe that never happened.
