Bungie’s COO on Destiny: “We Don’t Believe in a Particular Platform, But in our Universe”

Quite often you hear developers saying things like "this wouldn't be possible on any other platform" giving the idea that their game is be built around its console of choice instead of the other way around.

This isn't the case with Bungie's upcoming game Destiny, as stated by Chief Operating Officer Pete Parson.

Sounds like no gimping going on.. Thanks bungie -look forward to it.

Abriael3854d ago

I'm pretty sure that if there's a dev that won't do any compromises, that's bungie.

2cents3854d ago

I agree.

The only aspect that I have felt that bungie could improve on is their integration of story into their games. I'm a huge Halo fan that chooses to invest more time into the novels and wider mythology that is present, but if you only play the halo games there isn't much in the way of character development and narration. You have to look for the story in their games rather than it being presented to you.

Halo 4 surprisingly had the greatest depth of story telling in the whole series and that was thanks to 343.

I have great respect for bungie and Im pretty confident that they will deliver with Destiny.

GiggMan3854d ago

If that's the case then Bungie will definitely get my money.

mewhy323854d ago

Well they have to say stuff like that. I mean what were they going to say?"Well we could have made the PS4 version absolutely spectacular but we were held back by the lowest common denominator bone."

buynit3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

Mewhy32

Ok that argument is getting old now, Im not even going to lie its starting to actually bother me when i see comments like yours..

Nothing could ever be positive or genuine unless its directed to the ps4 you Sony fanatics need to get over your selves already, seriously... Nothing but drama queen gamers in this place..

That's like me saying.. And what are you supposed to say, that bone is the better Console? Exactly...... Now scram kid, ya bother Me!

Edit
Lol just noticed he's a one bubbler... This is a first moment of me actually liking the bubble system.. Pm in 3...2...

Lalanana3854d ago

@mewhy32

I just read some of your comments.

You really hate MS don't you?
Cmon man, not sure why you say some of the things you wrote. lol

but O well, everyone has their opinion i guess even if it is delusional lol

malokevi3854d ago

How does this article have anything to do with any particular version being superior?

they are basically saying "we have nothing to do with the console war, and we aren't playing favorites."

How anyone can take from that that the PS4 version is better is... laughable.

Nice to here a developer supporting there games and not a console or hardware. Looking forward to seeing what Destiny is like as looks fun from what I have seen so far.

ForgivenZombie3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

It should be fun on whatever platform you choose, and later when I get my xbone, I'll buy a second copy of Destiny. The console war is getting old, just enjoy the games people.

mcstorm3854d ago

I agree the console war is a load of poo. It is simple buy the console that has the games you want on it or if all 3 have the game you want then get the one most of your mates have to play them online with the game.

first1NFANTRY3854d ago

Considering this will be my first Bungie game ever, i'm hoping they deliver on the ps4. First impressions are everything here.

ZHZ903854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

You didn't own any Halo game before?

Anyways Destiny will be my 3rd Bungie game, I used to own Halo 1&2 on original Xbox.

And I will own Destiny on PS4.

first1NFANTRY3853d ago (Edited 3853d ago )

no...halo was never my kind of game. I liked the scifi aspect but it lacked a great story and the gameplay was unrealistic to me. not to mention you couldn't aim down sites.

That being said i never owned a M$ console until the 360. I've heard plenty of good things about halo 1 and 2 though.

dmeador3854d ago

I would love if they announced the ability to play with friends cross-platform. Getting it for X1, but have good buddies that are picking it up on there PS4. Maybe they could start the movement to have this feature in more games

Abriael3854d ago

Unfortunately microsoft's Xbox Live policies prevent that. That's why FFXIV isn't on Xbox One.

buynit3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

That's a dirty move by ms but devs. Are just as much to blame because they do have a choice..

I really do wish they would take full advantage of each consoles strength but i guess that's too much to ask out of games that make billions of dollars..

Oops..Forget what i wrote i you are on a different subject

mwjw6963854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

Then why was FFXI on live? You can play with PC, and PS2 people with that MMO.

MS is slowly learning to play nice with others we might see it a bit more open around 2014. If they can get it together.

I still think the E3 conference was the best thing that happened to MS. Made them wake up a bit and try even harder to make great stuff for us Gamers.

ForgivenZombie3854d ago

It would be nice and would save me money because I have friends on both so I end up buying both consoles.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter326d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood326d ago (Edited 326d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell325d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig325d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast325d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g325d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka325d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai476d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface475d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard473d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
