61% of Brits think violent games cause real-world violence

A YouGov poll has revealed that the majority of Britons believe that video games violence can be a catalyst for real-world violence.

When asked if they agreed or disagreed with the statement ‘video games can be a cause of real-world violence and aggression’ 61 per cent of those who responded with a yes/no answer agreed that they did, leaving 39 per cent who disagreed.

To reiterate... video games don't cause violence. Violence is caused by family issues, poverty and social structures that make life feel like a hopeless nightmare. If anything, video games offer a temporary release.

Temporary release to do whatever you want without doing any harm to anyone or yourself.

Games should be used to help people relieve stress. You sir, are a genius.

lets look at the ballistics. ive done some Rsearch.
gtaSA, ok, has everything to do with Cali.
ill kep this short. the crime rates did fluctuate, but showed an expected steady increase by the thousands as the poulation increased by the million. but from the year gtaSA released, even as the population continued to grow by the millions, allmost All of the categorys Decreased by the Thousands Each year (rape fluctuated for a year but then began to decrease like everything else) and im talking all types of crimes. this doesnt factor in all of the factors but it gives an idea. and i chose gtaSA because it was the biggest gta, and cal because if gtaSA affected Any state, it would be the notorious cali.

What about "progressive" policies that destroyed the family by replacing the biological father with the State as the protector and provider?

So what do they say when you show them the % of violence BEFORE videogames existed, and it's just as bad then as it is now.

What do you say to that?

nice try

Excalibur3865d ago

And what percent of Britons play video games?

iamnsuperman3865d ago

I would say quite a lot. Just depends on who (culture/economic status and age) they asked. That would impact who plays what and their prior experience with games

Excalibur3865d ago (Edited 3865d ago )

I'm not being a Smart @ss but does " quite a lot" have a number or percentage?

The reason I ask is polls can be skewed to whatever results you wish.

What % of Brit gamers go to Government websites and take polls?

If that same poll was taken on a British Video game site would the results be totally flipped? Probably so.

Goro3865d ago

This poll was on a goverment website which is full of idiots who don't know anything about video games...

CaptainCamper3865d ago

This is from the same population that completed surveys suggesting 27% of parents would let their kids play GTA? lol

Golden Axe is a great game I enjoyed it on the SMS, Genesis and in the arcade. Great game but it truly was a quarter eater back in the day. I wish Sega could get the rights to the arcade port of Moonwalker another great arcade game I enjoyed. Collect so many monkeys and become Robo Michael lol.
