Sony had the most, Microsoft didn't have any, wow; but both had a quite a few neithers and a few said either, depending on the games.

They both have a chance to do well (Sony much more so), but it looks like in this situation the games will sell it, not the specs.

Lesson learned:

Microsoft needs to invest in exclusives

Sony needs to cater to Japan harder, not depending on name recognition.

Nintendo needs to market a little harder and change the U into a 2 (I mean go back to what made the Wii great; they went too far this time).

That has to be the dumbest reason why you buy a product. You shouldn't buy a product based on the fact that it was made it your home country. You should buy products that have value, quality, and work properly.

That's one of the reasons it's being delayed in Japan because the content won't be there in November. I guess you don't watch the pre-TGS conference and saw they announced some Japan-orientated games.

MS don't even have a launch date none do they have any games apart from Titanfall and maybe Crimson Dragon that will appeal to the Japanese. Apart from that we know they have one title from platinum games if CBOAT prediction is right.

As is the case with most western products. I cant remember the last time a western game even charted in japan. with the exception of the Iphone, I cant think of any western product that does well in japan.

My advice to MS: focus on EU and the US and parts of asia where they are not so....god I hate using this word..Xenophobic. Its nothing personal to MS. Let me quote one of the commentors from kotaku, who happens to teach english in japan:

Last of US charted there not too long ago. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell:BL, and Killzone Mercenary a few weeks ago. COD actually does sell in Japan. Last year it was number 24 for the year.

It's safe to assume that there are Japanese citizens that enjoy Western games, just as there are western gamers who enjoy Japanese games.

I find their culture and society interesting as well, along with other countries too. Unfortunately, with things like this, a lot of people do tend to use extremely broad generalizations of Japanese people as a whole, often without even realizing how wrong and misinformed they really are.

Also that quote you give, kind of indicates that there are western products that do sell well in Japan. If they didn't, then why would they have to be fought against? Citizens choose to buy western products.

Overall Xbox didn't have enough Japanese games to totally wow the gamers. It's going to be an uphill battle. Bringing Titanfall, D4, Crimson Dragon and unknown Japanese exclusive(Next year) is a start, plus adding MGS V, Final Fantasy and more Japanese oriented games could help them. Good luck MS in Japan.

Unless they are suddenly going to investing in multiple development teams making great Japanese market specific games, they will make no inroads. In fact those development teams needed to start about working 2-3 years ago.

The Japanese can seem fairly embarassing as far as any technology that you can't fit in your hand goes.

SCE Japan and occasionally Capcom and Square Enix aside, they shouldn't really be taken seriously any more as a place that supports a TV gaming experience.

This country, famed as being quirky and innovative, is actually conservative under it all. They failed to adequately support the Dreamcast, even though it could be very quirky in style, because they preferred to wait for the PS2. Since then, mobile gaming is what they like.

If you don't believe me, consider that the PS4 launch line up has been heavily supported by Western companies.

The Japanese are to gaming what the WiiU is to gaming sales. Someone else could do it if they weren't there. Heck, move
SCE Japan over to Europe and it's sorted as far as most Western tastes go. The Western companies know how to make Japanese style games. Look at Killer Instinct- great Western version of a game like Streetfighter 2.

I can clearly see why the x1 in failing is japan.

First off, the design of the x1 is way too simple looking to Fit Japanese people taste.

Second, Japaneses people are great bargainer so the x1 should've been price more reasonably to catch their attention.

Third, MS don't have enough games that geared towards the Japanese market.

MS advertisement for the Japanese people just inst catchy enough,
the color and theme looks too American. MS should've gone with a different color...maybe pink or another bright color. dark colors just doesn't give off the cheerful and happy go lucky impression.
