Forbes: Will GTA V's Digital Download Be Worth The Hassle

Good news everyone! You don’t have to go to a midnight launch to get your copy of Grand Theft Auto 5 on launch day. But in case you decide to go digital for your copy of GTA 5. You should know that the file size is just absolutely massive!

good thing it'll be downloading for me when im in class midnigt to morning

badboy7763871d ago

I chose Physical because this may actually be our last physical Copy of a GTA Series.

KwietStorm_BLM3871d ago

So you don't think a new one will be out before next next generation? Because the next consoles still have discs..

Xof3871d ago

Unlikely. While most PC games have been digital-only for years, and many games on current generations have also gone digital-only, it's highly unlikely a high-profile release like Grand Theft Auto will ever be digital-only.

Just look at the PC market.

100% of PC games are delivered to gamers via digital distribution services... but at the same time, you can walk in to your local electronics store and pick up a boxed copy of any of the high-profile games like Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, The Sims, etc.--hell, you can still pick up a boxed copy of Starcraft or Diablo II.

Granted, in most cases you'll still end up downloading the game via Steam or some disgusting alternative with a physical copy, but that doesn't change the fact that the physical copies exist--so there's clearly a market for them.

And that's the PC--which has been nearly 100% digital for nearly a decade now. That's very much not the case with consoles.

I have a fat 75Mbps connect so it'll take me around 1hr & 30min to download also depending on how taxed Sony's servers will be around that time. I can't freaking wait! :D

XB1_PS43871d ago

I have a question, why does this article list Xbox 360? This isn't available day one digital on Xbox Live.

Actually hes wrong you could predownload the game in Europe sunday and today Monday the 16th you can now predownload it North America and US.This will stop all the bogging down if everyone decides to do it this way instead of waiting until one minute after midnight.

WeAreLegion3871d ago

Had to delete a few things to make room, but I got it. ;)

Also, if you pre-ordered it on the PlayStation Store, any Rockstar game is 75% off. I bought Manhunt on PS2. Then...I looked at more titles. Turns out, that coupon is good for more than one! I bought LA Noire the Ultimate Edition, Max Payne 1/2, and GTA IV:Complete Edition for 75% off, each!

Sketchy_Galore3871d ago

I didn't preorder (I know, I know) and am not going to any midnight launches so I am gonna go on a hunt very early on Tuesday morning to see if there's a single copy left in the entire city. If not I will set up the digital version downloading and refuse to sleep until its done, no matter how long it takes. I just hope it's not like Uncharted 3 which was a pain to download even after clearing the ridiculous amount of hd space it was like four separate downloads to get the game to work.

boing13871d ago

Tell me about it. U3 digital version is a pain in the ass.

2pacalypsenow3871d ago

i rather have a physical copy . My ps3's body is ready

Animal Mutha 763871d ago

My copy's coming by post. No hassle. Call me old fashioned but sometimes the old ways are the best.

On topic: digital is fine if it's cheaper than retail and they let you pre dl the files. My understanding is that is not the case with GTA V so why bother?

You would also want a fast connection with no dl limits to get this digital.

My copy of GTA is only going to cost me £5 as I went for the GameStop trade in offer. It's a cracking deal.

you can preload GTAV on PSN,sunday for eu and monday for na.

Cost of realistic looking movement.

Rockstar need to learn that 12 years of work and 5000 employees doesn’t account for one persons opinion on the internet…

Profchaos39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

Oh and hundreds of millions of dollars in revanue to boot.

Lots of complaints about gta ever since the hd era started and yet it's bugger than its ever been with gta vi up to 180 million trailer views alone. The next game is shaping it be be another genre defining game

MetalGearsofWar39d ago

They already learned they dont have to actually make a great game

sagapo39d ago

The controls of RDR2 felt a but cluncky indeed, but it’s not as bad as some make it out to be. At no point did I get the feeling my experience with the game was held back or ruined by the controls.
But it can never hurt to optimize them a bit, sure.

Zhipp39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

I did accidentally beat someone to death a couple times. An unfortunate mistake but besides that I didn't have any problems with the controlls

jznrpg39d ago

Red Dead Redemption felt clunky at first but I got used to it fairly quick. I thought 2 was easier to control but it could be my experience with the first game helped me out. Great games

Profchaos39d ago

I wouldn't call Rockstar games characters clunky instead they feel like they move with Weight they are not twitch controls press x to instantly snap onto cover the characters instead move like a actor would ducking behind cover they are exposed while they get there.
