Turn 10: Xbox One gives Forza 5 multiplayer "great advantages kind of for free"

Thirlwell "Will certain Xbox One games benefit from free access to dedicated Microsoft servers? That's what some in the media are suggesting, but we've yet to light on a concrete statement to this effect from the manufacturer. Turn 10's Dan Greenawalt has muddied the waters still further, telling OXM at Gamescom that as an Xbox One title, Forza Motorsport 5 enjoys "great advantages kind of for free."

Turn 10 is, of course, a first party studio, but it's rumored that Microsoft has struck similar deals with third parties. Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox One will also run on dedicated Microsoft servers, "ensuring the best multiplayer experience will be on Xbox One", in the words of Infinity Ward's executive producer Mark Rubin. However, when we asked whether Sony might also provide dedicated servers for the PS4 version, Rubin was unable to comment.

dedicated servers should be a stander next gen

Fireseed3876d ago

Yeah hopefully next gen, games w/o dedicated servers are few and far between. Thankfully Azure will probably make this possible.

Loving it!

How they did not already tell people of the updates, is beyond me. I knew it was for Sunset Overdrive by now they say this is possible on Forza?! GTFO!!

This is why I believe my choice is solid. Truly next gen.

I agree dedicated will make multiplayer more fun and a better experience all around. standard for all is a must.

"And best yet, Microsoft has datacenters all over the world, so everyone playing our game should have a consistent, low latency connection to their local datacenter. Most importantly to us, Microsoft priced it so that it's far more affordable than other hosting options - their goal here is to get more awesome games, not to nickel-and-dime developers."

Honestly, this'll be good for fighters for me personally. If MS can virtually eliminate lag on future fighting games. That would be absolutely beautiful.

Dedicated servers practically are standard on Xbox One.

Can't say the same for the PS4, whom doesn't even have dedicated servers for CoD:Ghost, which the Xbox One does!

black0o3876d ago (Edited 3876d ago )

1st COD on ps4 nothing hasnt been confirmed yet
2nd driveclub,KZ,DC,planetside,BF4 ,destniy, FF14 .. etc all has dedicated servers

so yes i can say for sure PS4 has it's own dedicated servers with the ability to cross-plat (PC/PS3/PSvita) match making unlike the x1

some EX:
War thunder
drivehell
FF14
.. etc

Same story with Titanfall, Sony didn't have a cloud solution, but MS did:

"I[Shiring of Respawn] personally talked to both Microsoft and Sony and explained that we need to find a way to have potentially hundreds-of-thousands of dedicated servers at a price point that you can’t get right now. Microsoft realized that player-hosted servers are actually holding back online gaming and that this is something that they could help solve, and ran full-speed with this idea."

http://www.respawn.com/news...

MS is the largest cloud provider in the world, with datacenters everywhere:

"“I[Steve Balmer of MS] claim there really are almost no companies in the world, just a handful, that are really investing in scaled public cloud infrastructure,” said Ballmer (see transcript ). “We have something over a million servers in our data center infrastructure. Google is bigger than we are. Amazon is a little bit smaller. You get Yahoo! and Facebook, and then everybody else is 100,000 units probably or less. So the number of companies that really understand the network topology, the data center construction, the server requirements to build this public cloud infrastructure is very, very small.”"

MS spends almost double of Sony's entire Gakai purchase on one datacenter:

"Microsoft invests nearly $700 million in Iowa data center to bolster online services"

http://www.pcworld.com/arti...

"Sony buys Gaikai cloud gaming service for $380 million"

http://www.engadget.com/201...

My bet is dedicated server experience on PS4 is not on par with Xbox One and will be far from you.

Major games like CoD: Ghost is already confirmed dedicated server on Xbox One, and PS4 does not!

mcstorm3876d ago

A lot of people on here don't give credit to Microsoft for what they have done to the console industry in terms of Online gaming. For 2 gens they have been the leading force in online gaming and yes there service is behind a pay wall but the Xbox and 360 offered the best all round online experience. Yes Sony did improve there's over this generation but it was still missing the slickness of xbox live and fetchers to.

Looking at what MS and Sony have shown off so far again Microsoft look like they are going to be leading again this generation but Sony's PSN is looking like it will be a big improvement but from what is being said by both company's so far MS are looking to push it from the start Sony are not.

Kind of free except that annual fee you have to pay which means it's not at all free. Nice try though Turn 10.

Dedicated servers should have been the norm for every multiplayer game on the 360 considering they were charging for it. You wouldn't believe how many people actually think that all games they played on the 360 were on dedicated servers.

P0werVR3876d ago

Nice on you at generalizing the point as if that argument is still relevant.

Either way, it's the norm for Xbox One owners.

Like what was the point, you have to pay for online anyways. Have you realized your arguments are pointless?

Caffo013876d ago

That's not pointless, he's stating that surely it's not kind of free if you have to pay xbl gold... It s been like that all this gen, ok, but saying it's free because it's the norm for members doesn't make it less false..

DOMination-3876d ago

Turn 10 was saying it was free for them to use dedicated servers. Not free for the end user.

No_Limit3876d ago (Edited 3876d ago )

Pointless argument. PS4 owners will also have to pay to play online for multiplayer games so if All XB1 games are on dedicated servers, that is an advantage, no matter how you cats wanna spin it.

Titanfall is only on XB1 because of dedicated servers that are available to Respawn.

DARK WITNESS3876d ago

except Titanfall is also coming to the 360, will it also only have servers for the 360 version as well?

If Titanfall runs p2p on the 360 then there is no reason it could not be done on the ps4. Just saying.

P0werVR3875d ago

^

Of course it will.

Why else do you think it's 300,000 servers for Xbox Live?!

Can you just get over the Gold subscription? It's $70 a year, I make that in an hour on some projects, get a better job if you can't afford a piddly amount like that.

RiPPn3876d ago

Since when do people who make a lot of money just throw it away because they have it? That is the stupidest argument I've heard and makes me question the legitimacy of your statement.

I make plenty of money also but that doesn't mean I'm throwing $60 away on a service I don't feel is worth paying for. Microsoft has given nothing back to the customers for paying over $400 over the last 8 years until the games with gold program. And it's as big a joke as the service itself.

Maybe a better argument to make would be to say you feel the service is worth the asking price and list the reasons why. It would sound far more educated than saying "derp I make that in an hour so I throw it out the winder.. derp"

TemplarDante3876d ago

Dedicated servers should be the norm for a top tier game.

nukeitall3876d ago

Dedicated servers practically are standard on every multiplayer Xbox One game.

Can't say the same for the PS4, whom doesn't even have dedicated servers for CoD:Ghost, which the Xbox One does!

Caffo013876d ago

Who cares, cod is a shitty game even with dedicated servers..

akaFullMetal3876d ago

Microsoft should of had most of their first party games dedicated anyways, just like Sony has for years for their first party games, especially considering xbox live has a premium cost to access it since 2001.
But it's great to hear that finally they will have dedicated servers.

WeAreLegion3876d ago

I'm glad someone else said it first.

BG115793876d ago

One thing I would like to ask, does anyone know if the xbone accepts the use of dedicated servers other then Microsoft's dedicated servers?
