10 PS4 games you have to play & the reasons why – the titles that will define next-gen

OPM: Not all at once obviously, that would be tricky. However, this is our must play list for PS4: the games that we think are going to set the standard for the next generation of PlayStation. It’s a mix of familier faces and a few surprises that will define Sony’s new console

My top 5 most anticipated must play PS4 games:-

1) KZ Shadow fall - The graphical fidelity, and the totally customisable multiplayer.

2) The Division - Pure next gen open world multiplayer gameplay

3) Infamous Second Son - It's infamous with perma-destruction

4) Battlefied 4 - Levolution, 64 players, 60fps

5) Destiny - It's Bungie, it's MMOFPS (I'm still dubious about the price structure though)

EDIT: Honorary mentions

6) Titanfall - (yes I know... I know...)
7)FFXV - I've been waiting years... and it looks goooood
8)MGS V: Phantom pain (or is that Ground Zeroes) - It's Metal Gear, it's Kojima. 'nuff said.
9)Watchdogs - The New Assassins Creed
10) Diablo 3 - Yes I'm waiting for the PS4 superbundle edition.

What the pricing on destiny?

ArchangelMike3869d ago

It's not been announced yet, but I can bet it's either going to be a subscription model, or f2p micro-transaction model. I hope they make it like Guild Wars where you only pay for the boxed (or digital) copy of the game, but I can't see Activision allowing that.

Grave3869d ago

Very solid list. Whats the DIII superbundle?

gedden73869d ago

The thing that sucks is only 2 of the games are exclusive first/second party games...

warewolfSS3869d ago

Man look at all those exclusives...

Sarcasm in case u didn't realize it

their number one game is a third-party game that's also available on current gen platforms. Someone please explain to me how assassin creed defines next gen, i'm not kidding.

GryestOfBluSkies3869d ago

i agree with you. out of all of those games, thats probably the last one id choose to play. not that i think it wont be good, but im tired of yearly releases.

ArchangelMike3869d ago

It really is quite poor for the Official Playstation Magazine to vote for a third party title as it's must play PS4 game. And not just any title, but an Assassins Creed title. A franchise that everyone acknowledges is getting stale.

MartinB1053869d ago

Personally, I wouldn't buy any current generation game if I know there's also a next-gen version in development, especially if they're being released simultaneously (or close).

It's not that AC defines next-gen, rather that I just don't want to play a game knowing that I'm not really getting the full experience that the game has to offer.

nosferatuzodd3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

nice Ps4 all day everyday and to the people who believe that crap about cant uploading to youtube because ofsome blue ray copyrights that's jus bull ps3 have the same blueray codec and i was uploading games staright to you tube on my ps3 that's fanboys catching after straws pixel junk eden let you upload any amount of videos you want all you of to do is log in you're youtube account on you ps3

Sadist33869d ago

Graphical fidelity? Levolution? Are you sure that's your own opinion/choice of words or are you just biting off of what developers have been saying in every freaking article? Also why the hell is boring ass generic Assasins creed on this list? The only thing that game defines is repetitiveness.

MartinB1053869d ago

It's a pretty reasonable list. Assassin's Creed IV is actually my only PS4 launch game (aside from PS+ and F2P freebies), so I'm quite happy to see it at the top of the list.

The Witness is actually my most anticipated PS4 game, but it's not a launch day game unfortunately.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan10d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name34d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno34d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno34d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure34d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
