If Nintendo created a $100 3DS TV box, would you buy it?

In the wake of recent Sony announcements, I thought it would be fun to do a bit of speculation. Early this morning Sony announced the Vita TV box, which allows consumers to play certain PS Vita games, as well as downloadable PSOne and PSP games. The device comes with 1GB of memory for built-in storage and enables all the remote play features between the PS4 and the PS Vita. This is certainly an interesting concept, but what if we applied it to Nintendo products?

MMMM. I don't think I would.

how would it work with dual screens?

Nintendo could just make a DS reader or 3DS reader for the wii-u. that way playing those games on both the gamepad (for touch interface) and using the big screen as the top screen could work.

Also nintendo had some success with their super gameboy as well as the GBA player so the prospect of playing portable games on a tv is not that uncommon for nintendo.

@darthv72

it would work this way

the best solution IMOO is for developers to make a higher resolution version of games, this would really give the WiiU a lift because the 32DS has tons of great games.

UltimateMaster3880d ago

Well.. first of all.
It technically couldn't be done on a 3DS because you need 2 screens.

For that reason, it would not be possible.

There was a troll that made a 1DS and claiming it to be real, you'd plug it in with an HDMI cable and the 3DS had it's own screen, but that could not be done.

Either way, I'd much rather have Nintendo focused on getting more games for my Wii U than having this 3DS TV thing.

UltimateMaster3880d ago

Also, the main attraction of the PS Vita TV is the Remote Play. Without it, it's somewhat useless.

A lot of people wanted a PS Vita to be able to remote-play their PS4 and they can with this.

It's cheap, you can connect with a wi-fi connection and play your PS4 games, say you want to play your PS4 in your bedroom and you can't since it's the living room, well now you can with this Vita without the need to buy a second PS4.

Another cool thing is being able to take this to a friend and play your PS4 games there without travelling a huge console back and forth, you only need that small Vita TV and you're good to go.

So no, I don't really see any advantage of getting a 3DS TV. Stuff like Netflix can easily be done on almost any device.
Just get more Wii U games and I'll be happy.

Nintendo would probably do it anyway even if I think the vita Tv is a really stupid idea. Just so that Sony doesn't have a lead on anything.

But it would look like utter crap. The native screen resolution of the 3DS is about 1/4 of an SD screen. Upscaling that to full HD would look awful. Each native pixel would be scaled up to 4x4 pixels on the TV.

darthv723880d ago

Id imagine they could use some sort of smart filtering technique. Where instead of rigid lines it would be softer and blended.

the gba player does a nice job of rendering gba and gbc and gb games on a large screen.

wishingW3L3880d ago (Edited 3880d ago )

but all of those GBA games were sprite based, 3D stuff will look just awful. You can connect a Snes through composite and it'look better than PS2 with component.

darthv723880d ago

@wishing... at best the ds/3ds games would look like n64 games maybe cube level in some depending on the game.

There would be no 3d effect to look awful.

Angeljuice3880d ago

The vita graphics will be just about acceptable (maybe) on a large screen TV.
The 2DS (no 3D) graphics would look somewhat less than acceptable.

I'm not completely sold on vita TV, so it's a definite no from my perspective.

They will do it...

Next gen/handheld.

Because their next handheld will be the Wii U controller, but updated.

Then they could make this work and it would be "new" to Nintendo fans.

R00bot3880d ago

A Wii U controller with the processor in it that comes with a little box you connect up to the TV that receives the signal? It'd be like the Wii U but reversed.

That'd be really cool, but I bet it'd run out batteries really quickly.

I think this is what People mean when they say they want Nintendo to merge Home and Hand-Held consoles. Of course, I really don't see a reason to do this seeing how the 3ds is already selling pretty well on it's own. And of course, there is always the bad media.

"Nintendo Announces 3ds TV! Hand-Held Gaming dying?"

SaulGoodman3880d ago

Ummm, yeah. IF I was to ever the the Xbone and they came out with one, (in development starting today) I would buy one. I Will be getting PS4, Vita TV, and Vita in that order.

Dan_scruggs3880d ago

Considering the library. Yes. It would actually make more sense seeing as none of the touchscreen functionality would be lost with the Wii U tablet controller. Not to mention Pokemon X and Y.

Angeljuice3880d ago

But then you would require both a WiiU (for the tablet) and the 3DS TV console. That makes the whole thing rather expensive or only possible for a minority of people. I don't think thats a good idea.

kirbyu3880d ago

There would have to be a controller in the screen for it to work. So it would make much more sense to make a thing for Wii U that plays 3DS games like the Super Game Boy.
