Sony is really taking the bull by the horns. The remote play feature of the Vita and the release of Killzone Mercernary will sell more units. I may even pick one up too, for the remote PS4 play feature.

It will launch in Japan on October 10th. It is not clear if it will release anywhere else at this stage. Ca Mon you can't do this what about the Rest of the world.

Wish it wasn't an LCD instead of OLED. I wouldn't mind replacing the one i've got for something lighter/better battery.

I think OLED is the better screen but lcd is cheaper. Another price drop maybe? I got lots of questions but its a special Day for Japan and im sure we will get answers sooner or later. Japan is going to have a awesome PS4 launch in Feb.

They should improve brightness in light conditions because on my Vita it's awful in the sun :( Especially with Dark backgrounds. The Lumia 925 I have is a killer in the sun, and in Malta it tends to be sunny all year round.

OLED is much better than LCD. It's also much newer.
Seems like they went back to using old LCD technology which costs a lot less.

It isn't that much better than newer super LCD screens used these days. So it may not be that big of a deal.

Of course there will still be differences but with new LCD screens, say LCD 3, there is little to no differences at all other than the darkness of blacks.

You can find any tests out there and they will all tell you the same. There isn't that much of a difference anymore. Sure a huge difference to old LCD's but the chances are very unlikely that Sony picked old plain LCD's. If they were willing to put a SAMOLED+ in the Vita, I think they are going to put super LCD's in the remodel.

Like I said below when they talk about the LCD they made a point to talk about the advancements, so I think the chances are more likely its these new super LCD's they are using in the Vita now.

They said this was new LCD technology, as they talked about the advancements and why they switched. Those were their direct words, if that is true then there won't be a huge difference that some are making it out to be.

If you seriously think they would use an old arse basic LCD screen in the Vita that is just even crazier to think seeing as practically there are very few devices now that use LCD that old anymore besides really really cheap electronics.

No one knows what the actual LCD specifications are. It could be the new super LCD's which I am assuming it is, since Sony pointed out the LCD advancements. Nothing they said, pointed out that it would be old tech. This is being used in newer phones which are almost identical to SAMOLED screens or even TFT.

There is not a big difference in some instances it can be better. Only slight difference would be noticed for AMOLED, most people can't tell the differences and are forced to choose because the screens are all so similar now.

Regardless it will look good either way I can assure you that, the only difference you might find noticeable is nothing can get black, as black as AMOLED does other than that though you won't notice much.

Old Vita does not use OLED. It uses AMOLED.
OLED=Sony
AMOLED=Samsung.

Anyway, LCD is probably the better choice imo. I did prefer AMOLED at first but after a while you just get sick and tired of its over saturated colour. Wish it had something closed to true colour.

Anyways, a good comparison between these screens would probably be HTCone vs Samsung G4.

Over-saturation is something you can fix on the software side of things. You could never "fix" the blackness of LCD screens, which is why - disregarding price - OLED will always be better than LCD.
And it's not like there's only one level of OLED either. As with LCD, it comes in different levels of quality/advancements, and has not yet had as many years of tweaking and development as LCD.
It's still a *lot* pricier though.

Exactly. And the VitaTV doubles as a PS4 extender in your home, allowing you to play your PS4 on another TV, while allowing you to also play Vita games, stream media, etc.

Without a doubt we'll start seeing PS4/PSVitaTV bundles coming.

I am a Vita owner too but I don't feel screwed with this. The only performance upgrade was an additional hour on battery life. Most of the changes were for cost cutting purposes and the addtional internal 1gig memory.

That battery life is probably at the expense of substituting the OLED with the LCD screen. So, it's a trade off really. Plus, as HICKEN said, it's not like it came 3 months after the original's release.

Why do u feel screwed, because the new vita weighs 2oz less, woop ti doo, grow some muscles, first off you'd be losing that beautiful oled screen, battery life 1 hour more, well let me tell you that I bought nyko grips for mine, which makes it even heavier by the way, but more comfortable when playing for a long time, but the nyo grips have a built in battery thatgives you an extra 5 hours, yes thats right, 10 hours in total. But I guess this is useless info because your complaining that you can't handle 9.8 oz 3g model or even worse 9.2 oz wifi model vs the new model that weighs around 7.34 oz

People complain about price, but then when Sony does something to lower the cost people complain about them removing features... If you care about the OLED screen so much then buy the current version while it's still available. If you don't want to shell out the money to buy it then I guess you don't really care about the OLED screen that much to begin with.

The new version is thinner, supports micro usb for charging and has 1 gb of storage off the bat... so things have improved.

Those that are in the core market go out and get it. Those that wait are usually waiting because of PRICE. So, they trim the costs and release a revised version of their product to the mass market. There is still the option to get the prior version...it's out there. But, if you want to save some cash and still get essentially the same experience for less...there's a new option.

@ Bundi This is the first re-design. It is cheaper for Sony to make, thus actually might get some revenue and will eventually go down in price. It would have been cheaper than the original had they not did a price break a couple of months ago. Either way, this is just step one.

Besides Sony just cut the price of the of current Vita only a couple of weeks ago. So this new version, if it is the same price, would have been cheaper than the old one prior to August which makes it cheaper technically anyway.

So the original ps vita wifi version weight is 9.2oz or 9.8oz for 3g, are u telling me you can't handle that extra 1.84 oz or the 1.90 oz anymore. Don't forget that you have an oled screen, giving the option I would prefer the original over the new one, heck I even bought Nyko grips for mine, which makes it even heavier, but more comfortable and it double your battery life and now gives me 10 hours

I paid $180 for mine new last November and it came with AC liberations.

The official MSRP is $200 right now.

These new ones will be cheaper and add a gig of internal storage, but lose "dat OLED screen".

The additional gig of memory is meh as you will use more and need a card anyway. The OLED screen is beautiful.

I'd say that is a good price particularly if the memory card is of decent size.

The white ones are particularly cool because you won't see any smudges on the body.

If you get it be sure to have PS+ as they will be switching the yearly games in November.

I'll keep my original, having a thicker one is better to hold personally. Plus OLED seem to have a richer screen then LCD and I'd rather have that VS an extra hour of battery. I played my Vita while watching 3 NFL games yesterday and near the end of the 3rd I finally needed to re-charge.

Wow thinner, lighter, 1 gig of memory built in, and extra hour of battery life, cool colors, cheaper, sounds awesome almost too good to be true.... But, at what cost, the loss of the OLED screen which is replaced by an LCD screen..., Sony no, I love my OLED screen, unless your able to show me that there is minimal to no loss of quality in switching over to an LCD then I will continue to use my original Vita. I don't know I may pick it up as a secondary device to take to work but will NEVER replace the crisp and bright OLED screen unless there's little to no compromise between the two techs.

the OLED screen is really that much better, I play my Vita at the lowest brightness possible, yet it still looks vibrant and bright, whether its on a sunny day or dark room, you never loose quality, with LCD, you really have to turn the brightness at max and even then, the viewing angles are a variant as well

what really impressed me from the Japan conference was that last clip they showed "a day with play station" they literally showed all social aspects of the PS4 and Vita. Remote play, game spectating, cross game play, cross party chat, it really showed what owning a PS4 and Vita will be like
