Top Ten Collector’s Editions of the Past Generation

If this generation can be remembered for one thing – and, to be honest, it will be remembered for many things – it’s the rise and escalation of the Collector’s Edition. Highly sought after and frequently snagged by vindictive eBay merchants, Collector’s Editions have always had a presence in the games market but it wasn’t until this marathon generation that they became a fixture on release calendars. From steelbooks to statues, chests to cheap crap, Collector’s Editions embody everything amazing and naff about gaming today. Here are ten of the most memorable money-vacuums to hit shelves this generation. Nail that wallet shut and tremble at their majesty:

Call of Duty: Prestige/Care Package Edition...but no Fallout 3 or New Vegas Collectors editions. Much better in my opinion

Plus some of the Assassins Creed ones aren't that bad.

DivineAssault 3880d ago

that million dollar saints row is stupid lol.. Who would buy that even if they had the disposable funds?

RE_L_MAYER3880d ago

the thing Is for the amount you are paying you can get so much more
plain trip-idk
lamborgini Gallardo is like 150-200 grand
toytota prius is probably 40-30 grand

there is probably more in this trip but I could make 1 million worth me so much more than that

rainslacker3880d ago

I find anything in a collector's edition that isn't actually related to the game(or series) in question to be pretty silly.

It was meant to be something absurd, I doubt they expected anyone to actually purchase it. More a marketing gimmick than anything.

RE_L_MAYER3880d ago

uncharted ones are mixed up I believe....im literally out of space in my room for anything.......Idk where im gonna store box from gta 5

Tales of Kenzera: Zau conveys its somber themes with nuance and passion. It's just a shame the gameplay doesn't always match those highs.

I fully expect to see this game at Xbox Showcase this year.

Tacoboto18h ago

Me too.

I expect Hellblade 2 to be the start of a consistent stream of UE5 XGS titles. It's basically their default engine, save for ForzaTech and the proprietary engines in use at Activision and Bethesda.

Really looking forward to seeing the Forzatech based Fable. Playground games has had a great track record with the Horizon series, so lets see.

purple10118h ago

I fully expected to see it released about 3 year ago, but each to their own

Lightning7716h ago(Edited 16h ago)

There's no way it would release in 2021 especially when it was announced at the VGA's 2020.

purple10115h ago

@lightning, that’s when the first trailer was shown, but it was known to be in development much earlier and Xbox fans were tooting it to be released years ago, the initiative studio formed in 2018, and to my knowledge have not released a game

That’s 6 years and all you got is a trailer and some empty promises
Good one from Microsoft, yet again.

Lightning7713h ago(Edited 13h ago)

Such is game development, long developmental cycles is one of the big black eyes of the industry. I don't see you complaining about Wolverine that got announced in 2021, releasing in 2026 and only got one trailer.

purple1015h ago

@ lightning
Nice try but for one, 2021 - 2025 would only be 5 years not 6,

And for two insomniac have developed multiple games or have multiple games in development over that time, and the initiative only have the 1 game to be concerned with

For three, we all know the quality Wolverine will be and although I do hope perfect dark is good, it’s unlikely to be as good as insomniacs proven track record

Good thing they got Crystal Dynamics to make it, at least they know how to make a game that has 60 fps.
