Pendulum can swing in any direction Xbox One/PS4

Its amazing how these discussions all go back and forth. To many times the comments constantly change or it seems to favor one company over another. Even worse how the same commentators constantly give an opinion or create an entire different story.

When the Xbox 360 came out it was the platform for Top AAA titles and indies. When the PS3 came out it had a few AAA titles and less indie games. As the generation moved forward Xbox 360 loss its foothold on having a lot of top Triple AAA games but still had an incredible amount of indie games. Gamers kept saying that "Xbox had no games". PS3 ramped up the Triple AAA games and even indie games. Now fast forward to the new generation upon us. The table is turned and the Xbox One clearly has enough Triple AAA games for the first full year of its lifecycle and not that many indies (yet) and PS4 has announced a few Triple AAA games for the first year (Not all yet) with mostly indies that can be found on other systems as PC and even current gen like Xbox 360/PS3. I heard all types of comments from gamers including but not limited to "I don't buy systems for indies or that I can find these games on PC". Having a huge library of indie games on any system is great but I have also heard comments like "indie games are not real games". Gamers believe that past a certain point MS won't have games for them or how right now sony is not presenting enough Triple AAA games to them. I think as gamers we need to stop assuming and enjoy gaming on each platform. The list below shows how much experiences/enjoyment is upon us from both companies

There is no doubt in mind that this generation will be very long and as of right now both companies have a lot of secret weapons. Clearly there are two different strategies playing. Looking at the lineup on both systems it is going to be an incredible year for gamers.

If you look at what Sony is doing with the PS4 it is actually providing top tier games with a vast amount of indie games to ensure that all gamers are taken care of. Think about it, providing games at $5 dollars to $15 dollars is fantastic. Not to mention free games as well. Hardcore gamers will get there fill with great triple AAA titles like Killzone Shadow fall and Multiplatform games but offering more is an excellent strategy. After all, there is many gamers out there that don't even care for the launch titles and would prefer many of those indie games. Sony has always had a long history of starting out slow but providing an endless amount of games through out the entire generation.

MS has an entirely different strategy but not that different in terms of content. If you look at it they will have a few more exclusives and less indie games at launch. The difference seems to be that MS wants to provide many of those top triple AAA titles early to ensure that gamers get as many options and clearly they are aimed at a more hardcore audience initially. MS has always started out strong but fades at the end of the console cycle. Recently MS has stated that they have invested over a billion dollars for new IP's and games. The biggest thing I hear from commentors is how "MS lost it foot hold on exclusive games". Will this generation repeat itself? I rather not assume anything and wait to see how it plays out.

As time goes on all these discussions will be meaningless and we will be talking about incredible experiences that these games have provided. Games count no matter if big or small and to say that one system has no games while putting another on a pedestal is wrong. As you can see the new generation is playing out in the same context but in different situations. Finding an excellent experience this generation won't come from big AAA titles only but from all gaming avenues. Enough with assuming, lets let this generation unfold like a gift that keeps on giving. The pendulum can swing in any direction. In which direction do you think this generation will play out?

Nicaragua3881d ago

I think it will play out much the same as this generation.

Both companies will start slow-ish but MS will do a better job of advertising to the masses. The big guns (halo, uncharted) will start arriving late next year and Sony will start to edge ahead with its number of exclusives year on year where MS will cut back in the later years as its track record shows.

MS will continue with buying times exclusives from the bigger 3rd parties, and DLC on all platforms will reach dizzying new heights of shittyness.

Sales wise i think ps4 will do slightly less than ps3 numbers and xb1 will do about 25% less. I think this because its currently percieved in the general media as having issues which will hurt its launch figures, followed by it being more expensive, followed by the stigma of RROD, followed by the inclusion of kinect.

awesomeperson3881d ago

Interesting that you think the PS4 will do slightly less than the PS3 numbers. The PS3 had a pretty rough few first years, and had much of the marketshare taken (especially initially) by the 360 and the Wii.

But this generation the Wii U isn't looking to do too well (could very well turn around), and if you expect the Xbox One to do 25% less, then shouldn't that marketshare move to the PS4? In which case it would sell slightly above PS3 numbers?

Of course that's assuming Sony manage to keep up their momentum, and don't slip up too many times in the coming year or so. I admit right now most people probably don't even know a next-gen console is coming, that's the impression I get from talking to people. That being said, the marketting for both companies hasn't really started yet, and when it does, we should see more people becoming interested.

Overall I think both companies will continue to pump out exclusives and once current-gen support wanes, we will truly get to see what these next-gen machines are capable of.

Nicaragua3881d ago

My thinking is down to two reasons. Firstly I think the console market is slightly shrinking, I don't think it will be that significant this generation but I don't think we will see another console do PS2/Wii numbers.

Secondly is that for the casual player there isn't a lot to motivate them to buy a next gen console over a current one - which they might already own.

So overall I think we will see less total consoles sold. Also factor into that that all the popular consoles (PS2, Wii, DS) are very easy to pirate games on which would have driven a significant portion of their hardware sales. As the new consoles are going to be harder to pirate games on then that will detract from their sales.

@awesomeperson

You make some great points. If you look at current gen systems they are still going strong especially in there 7th and 8th year respectively for PS3 and Xbox 360. They at least have another 4 years left with added value such as PS Plus and Games for Gold. Not to mention that most consumers are happy with current gen and it will at least take about 2 years for the new systems to really showcase some excellent graphics and gameplay due to many of the games being developed with cross generational intentions.

CGI-Quality3880d ago (Edited 3880d ago )

Nope. In fact, this gen will be very different from last. First, Sony will start off ahead and stay there (no 1yr head-start, high price, exotic tech to contend with). Second, the PS4 should top the PS3's totals, because right now, outside of a guess, nothing suggests the market is shrinking.

That's quite an eye opener. Good work.

I wonder when MS finally sort out their indie policy will some of those indie games come to the X1?

I'll be sure to copy this list and paste it when ever some idiot says PS4 has no games.

devwan3881d ago

I've no doubt many of the indie games will also come to xbox one, there are only a few said to be exclusive to ps4 on console.

FamilyGuy3881d ago (Edited 3881d ago )

I was just about to say that he's missing tons of games on that PS4 list but here you've posted a much more thorough list already, nice. +helpful bub

I like games, AAA and indie so I'm pretty excited about getting a PS4. ^_^

Damn, I just looked over that list again and I'm glad a lot of these are indies or I'd be broke forever! There's so many that look fun, cool or interesting to me and at $5-$20 a pop I'm gonna be buying a lot of them.

Specifically:

Blacklight: Retribution
Contrast
The Dark Sorcerer (whatever the real game turns out to be)
DC Universe Online
Deep Down
Diablo III
DriveClub
Final Fantasy XIV
Helldivers (msybe)
Infamous: Second Son
Killzone: Shadow Fall
The Order 1866
Outlast
PlanetSide 2
The Playroom
Primal Carnage: Genesis
Res0gun
Rime
Samurai Gunn
Shadow of the Beast
Transistor
Warframe
War Thunder

Geez -_- That's still a lot of money and no multiplats are even included
Destiny
The Division
FF15
KH3

I wish the PS4 would launch already so I could get started lol

MrChow6663880d ago

lol the fanboys and their lists...

Automatic793881d ago (Edited 3881d ago )

@devwan

You are right many of these games will come to Xbox One. As recent article came out indicating that Warframe is a timed exclusive.

http://www.ign.com/articles...

Many of the indies will follow suit.

CGI-Quality3880d ago

Daylight and Outlast definitely are not, as they weren't called timed exclusives. Sony sent both devs some kits and reached out to them, thus, helping to fund their projects. But, according to many Xbox fans, it's Indies, Indies, Indies. So why should they care if something is "also" coming to eh X1? ;)

minimur123881d ago

The Dark Sorcerer isn't a game :D

devwan3881d ago

Damn, I missed Hohokum form the ps4 list - that's the one my son wants most!

Well Sony has momentum right out of the gate and I only see it getting better. Especially when publishers cater to the much large PS4 install base and take advantage of it's extra power.

When all your friends are getting a Ps4 and the multiplats perform noticeable better (not to mention Sony's calibre of 1st party studios) it's not hard to assume the Ps4 is going to continue to outsell the X1 by a significantly margin, and rightly so.

After MS tried to complete ruining my beloved hobby and only changed after they realised they couldn't get away with it (not because they suddenly realised what a horrible, greedy thing they were doing) they deserve to be vastly outsold by Sony.

DigitalRaptor3880d ago (Edited 3880d ago )

I wonder who will be the developers/publishers to buck the trend on platform parity this generation, because frankly, it's fairly annoying that you never saw this kind of strategy in previous generations but you do now. If a console was more powerful, you would attend to its strengths. Xbox was more powerful than PS2, so it got superior ports.

PS4 is going to be the dominant console/install base without a doubt, so that secures a lot of things for PlayStation gamers. Third party exclusives/DLC, better developer support, superior multiplatform games and actual value in a service. The Xbox fans are trying hard to make a launch lineup of games that were delayed from 360 and pushed the XB1 appear like a distinct, long-term advantage, which couldn't be further from reality.

-
I remember writing over a year ago on an article, about how useless, short-sighted and ridiculous it was to suggest that Sony would be complacent again, not have a worthy and vastly upgraded PSN that could genuinely compete, and not be able to attain the upper hand generally because they were in the red. That they wouldn't be ready or able to compete with Microsoft. That they could not afford to make a truly powerful console or build a powerful network with amazing and innovative features.

Look at which group of people were right, in that regard. Sure, many people were right about Sony charging for online with PS4, but they also didn't charge for P2P connectivity or dedicated servers for many years on their other platforms. And look who was right all these years about Microsoft and their disgraceful polices, standards as a company and the way in which they treat their consumers as fools and criminals, and insulting our intelligence with smoke and mirrors campaigns of manufactured hype.

I would have to agree with you jessupj, that they deserve all the stumbles they've made over the past few months, due to their actions over many years. I can't say they even deserve support, but people are willing to line up and apologise for a corporation that has proven itself to be anti-consumer.

FamilyGuy3881d ago (Edited 3881d ago )

Add yet another to the list! http://n4g.com/news/1345933...

1001 Spikes was missed as well.

It's kinda hard to keep up with Sony announcing 2 or more new titles a day.

Beloved Strategem Still Broken as Helldivers 2 Players Plead to Devs

Some Helldivers 2 players are frustrated with some content still being broken, so read this article to see what that is all about.

Some?? Try all. Mechs are bugged, many weapons are useless including the newly renewed ones, stratagems are bugged or weak, we still get stuck in the terrain with no way out, and the list goes on. Good game but they need to fix the issues before doing anything else.

Used to love this one, but X-Men Legends 1 and 2 will always be my favorites, especially Rise of Apocalypse. Would pay some good money to play it today with online multiplayer, back then I had no way to get a modem

ZeekQuattro1h ago

I remember buying them dirt cheap on the PS4 and then a few days later I read they were delisted. I was wondering why the bundle was price so low and got my answer when that happened.
