Why Sucker Punch added touch controls to Infamous: Second Son

Sucker Punch has utilized the PlayStation 4 hardware to do things it simply wasn't able to do on current-gen hardware, director Nate Fox told Polygon during Gamescom; things like realistic city-building and touch-based controls.

It's the proper implementation of a feature that makes it sweet and not a gimmick. What's the point in having a touchpad for the PS4 if isn't gonna be used?

Except there's a difference. There is no added cost of the touchscreen to gamers. There is an added cost to the Kinect.

If the touchpad isn't even used, I don't really care, I didn't have to pay for it. If it's used, and used well, then great! I'd say the same for Kinect if they ever did something interesting with it.

NDS and Vita have touch screens; so do most modern smart phones. Touch interface is proven, that it can compliment gaming in a subtle and inexpensive way, and ways that make sense and work.

The worth of camera motion sensing has been unproven for years and remains in a state of uncertainty and is fairly expensive.

1) I don't have to wave my arms at the touchpad for it to work.
2) touchpad does not monitor my body temp and heart rate.
3) touchpad does not increase the cost of the console.
4) touchpad is optional.

I think the touchpad is a great addition to the DS4. Simple applications will be wonderful. It doesn't need to be overly complex.

I have doubts if Titanfall will go to the PS4. If it ends up as the new flagship game for the Xbox One I'm pretty sure MS would do anything to secure the rights to the game. Look at what happened to Monster Hunter, as soon as Nintendo saw how much units they can sell with this game they most likely made a very good deal with Capcom since Monster Hunter never appeared again on a Sony platform except for the psp.

Granted it's a port, but there was a MH on PS3 in Japan. While good on paper, the Ninty-Capcom deal really hasn't positively affected Capcom's IPs. No MH (3 of them now on various Ninty devices) has even come close to the numbers of MH on PSP. RE:Revelations sold so far under expectations they had to re-release it on PC and consoles.

I can see TitanFall 1 staying exclusive to XB1 like Dead Rising 1 but I don't see this being another Gears. EA is a mega publisher looking for the next big thing. You don't get that huge by restricting the IP's accessibilty to one console base. See Halo versus CoD.

I think titanfall will not be a new console killer. It seems fun to a point but lacks depth. Sure mech fighting is fun but who is going to sink hundreds of hours into it? This is a game that you play while you are waiting for your mates to all log on to play battlefield and soon to be The Division and/or Destiny.

SP always utilize every button and controller features on the inFAMOUS games. Heck they even made you used six-axis and had Move optional on inFAMOUS 2. inFamous series is great.

And most importantly it has great gameplay. The gameplay of the Infamous series just doesn't get old. Great character movement, great enemies and level design and the icing on the cake is the story, voice acting and atmosphere. Second Son is hands down my most anticipated next gen release with the division a close second. The Order, though, is fastly climbing up the ranks.

How are they?? Similarly to how we haven't seen kinect functionality in Forza or Ryse. Just because the game is exclusive doesn't mean it has to use all the features of the console.

Good point. Hell, Ryse was a X360 Kinect game shifted to XBone and moved to conventional controls. They must be able to find some way to integrate Kinect function surely?!

Meanwhile, Infamous:SS has been built from the ground up for PS4 and they have chosen to be creative with the control inputs Sony have provided them with. It's commendable and all in the name of immersion and a more natural feel.

They're forced to use it because it's new. I'm sure all developer will start avoiding those types of gimmicks later on but for launch they're forced to use it just like when they had to use the sixaxis motion controls in the earlier PS3 games. Sony has them do it so they can bring in early adopting casual gamers.

I think you have no idea what being forced means. No one is actually complaining that there's a touchpad feature in the new PS4 controller. Sony isn't charging extra for the new touchpad feature. There's a difference between a game being enhanced with a feature than being gimped by one.

Dragon's Crown on Vita uses it and it's well implemented. Combined with the physical buttons it makes item management more efficient on the game. Also makes it easier to find hidden items on the screen and makes rune casting a lot faster especially during a battle. It's not a gimmick if it's implemented properly.

I've got a theory after the recent trailer showed delsin taking fetch's neon powers...if you watch it, it looks like the action is almost hurting her, which makes me think that when delsin takes a power, he literally takes it...it would give the dup a legit reason to single him out, so they can use him to deactivate other conduits, and it also seems like he and his brother are on some kind of mission judging by the trailers released so far...anybody have any thoughts on this, or maybe any evidence that would outright disprove e possibility?
