The Next Generation Lacks Excitement

The long-awaited next generation of game consoles is all anyone can talk about these days, but is there really reason for it? Other than the automatic curiosity that new technology brings, Gamers Association editor Jay Curtis finds little excitement in what's coming in the next few months. Here's why.

We haven't really seen much about this game, surprisingly. There is quite more then Sony originally showed.

I'm definitely more excited for this gen than I was for any previous generation.

That being said, I'll be even more excited 1-2 years after release, when all the games REALLY start flowing.

Yeah, I thought that, too. Japanese respawns (its made by Japan Studios). LOL. Might lead to some frustration. One hit and you are dead. I hate that, tbh. Especially because the respawn sets you back quite a bit. Either they will tune the hit points a little in the boss sequences or give it additional difficulty levels. Gotta be careful with the defense there, I guess.

No, because Killzone, inFamous and WatchDogs weren't playable. Plus DriveClub, while still pretty good, was slightly less good than I expected.

I did expect at least one triple-A title, and other than most people I don't have a problem to admit that I was a little disappointed with the SONY conference. However at least we had several really good ones before that clearly understood what we as gamers wanted. ALso I don't feel the need to tell you that on SONY booths you had to wait for 4 hours to try one game whereas MS-booths on GamesCom were only filled with a couple of people so that you could try everything in about 30 minutes, but I guess you couldn't take the truth anyway.

Also I participated in an XOne-Raffle. They were giving away an XBox each hour (guess they somehow need to up their numbers). I would gladly have taken a free XBox because I don't think it's bad. I just think that the PS4 is better. (Actually I am one of the guys that really liked the family-sharing-plan which is now revoked unfortunately).

The only "excitement" is coming from fanboys as they blindly defend *their* systems.

Not saying that its going to be better than last gen, but considering last gen that's really not saying much.

If you trully love games it´s a hell of a time to be a gamer both sistems are impressive,and the not so distant next year proves to be one of the most amazing years in sheer quality and quantity of games(Metal Gear Solid V,THe Witcher 3,Destiny,THe Division,etc...)

Thus the ones that are still releasing this year(GTA V,Beyond Two Souls,Next gen:Watch Dogs,Killzone:Shadow Fall,Batllefield 4)Should i go on?

We dont know about you,but the rest of us is pretty excited.

I'm more excited than before this gen. Hard to believe I can buy a console and two games, yet have access to so many more for free. Warthunder, Warframe, Blacklight: Retribution, Planetside 2, DC Universe... and if I get PS+ then Drive Club and Outlast are added to that list, and that's only the beginning. Unbelievable value.

I'd say, to see what MGSV looks like on next-gen consoles makes me excited enough that no other game can even compare. My anticipation and anxiety for MGSV are so flipping high, that even playing and beating The Last of Us seemed like a casual and 'plain' experience.

Does that make me sound insane for MGSV or something? Though, I'm going too beat TLOU on Survivor difficulty next and get a Plat soon xP

i agree, i think the nextgen feel like a contiuation of currentgen, no "HD gfx/online" type shock but still a bit exciting, the launch is lots better

I'm more excited about the streaming feature of what was shown on the PS4. The ability to watch/play the game people on your friend's list are playing. Useful for those times when we actually eat.

The two games im excited about are GTAV and 7 Days to Die.

Playing alpha of 7 Days to Die and its awesome, definitely a must have. But I'm more excited for Zelda U, Mario Kart 8, SSB Wii U, DK: Tropical Freeze, Mario 3D World, Watch Dogs, Wonderful 101 and Rainbow Six Patriots.

Super excited and why wouldn't anyone be. I mean the graphic detail is on a whole other level now. So many new features and the PS4 is $100 cheaper then when the PS3 came out 7 years ago. So we've got a 10 times more powerful console that's also cheaper. If you are not excited. You are either dead or trolling.

Look at AC4 BF, Watch Dogs, BF4, Destiny, inFamous SS, Killzone Shadow Fall. MGS5 and tell me those games are not beyond anything we've seen before on a console.

I'm more excited about the potential than the launches. Neither the X1 or the PS4 has anything that makes me want to buy the console anywhere near launch. I already own a Wii U and everything coming out this fall through mid-late next year (assuming Smash Bros is a big fall title) will have me plenty satisfied as a gamer.

I'm definitely excited for Destiny and The Division....and hopefully all of these new IP's everyone keeps yammering on about. If we end up with the same game with different skins again like we've gotten the past few years. I'm ready for something new.

I'm just waiting to see something that makes me say, "I NEED that console."

I mean I've been hyped almost a year in advance before there was any official talk of these devices, so it's hard to be all "OMMMGGGGGGGZZZZ!!111!!11 one!" when I already got to that point. That's funny. I haven't been this excited for a console launch since Dreamcast. There are so many things the new systems can do that bring the gaming community together even more, like recording gameplay, live streaming, f2p games. And that's not even bringing up the indie explosion that'll hopefully breath new life that the industry needs. There is an immense amount of great looking games coming out just at launch and within the first year alone. If you're so bored of gaming, or you need Jesus to return just to be excited for a new generation, you should probably just give it up.

Well i ´ve been thinking about it but if i go to a GAME(Gamestop of my contry) they give m like 60 or70 € for my consoles that´s nothing compared to sell them to a private so il just keep my ps3 for now and try to sell my xbox360 but then i star looking to my witcher 2 assasin of kings special edition and my heart starts to hurt.

I feel like last gen had a great leap foward. Not just with graphics, but gameplay and stories that weren't possible with old tech. We are getting an open world MGS game, an open world racing game(the crew), battlefield with its levolution, killzone with its beautiful world, and the list goes on. Hell yeah I'm hyped up. It has never been this exciting!

Ya know, I was thinking today, MS could put a ribbon on this next gen with two moves that they are fully capable of doing. A) Come to an agreement with Respawn and make Titanfall Series a definite exclusive, B) Purchase Activision for $8-9 Billion or at least the majority share and therefore all Activision games would become exclusives, such as COD and Destiny. I realize that there are some gameers out there that don't care anything about those three games, but they are the vast minority...not to mention with the superior XBL all of those games would fare better on XB1 anyway...seems like a match made in heaven. That momentum would REALLY hurt Sony right after a console launch (when console companies are the most vulnerable) and boost MS pockets so that they could expand more in other areas. If I was on the MS board, I would do whatever possible to make those two things happen.

Sure some of those games above seem to be just awesome graphics but average gameplay, (KZ) but we will only be able to tell until they come out.

Yeah. PS2 got crazy hype before it came out. It was going on at least a 1 year campaign. And it was being advertised everywhere. This thing hasn't really been being covered all that much. Outside of the gamer bubble there has been some advertisement at Champions League soccer games on those sliding panels

Destiny looks very fun too.
AC 4 looks to be a great experience.

Don't get me started on Infamous SS, it's my most anticipated game.

The ps4 interface does look to finally have true fast loads and seemless transitions like the 360 had this gen so im sure ps4 fans are looking forward to that. No more waiting and updating it sucked..imo.
