The Last Guardian is Not As High A Priority As Other Games

Kotaku - The Last Guardian IS in production. Though the game was absent from this year's E3, that's what we've been repeatedly assured of by Sony reps. Well, front man Fumito Ueda, creator of PS2 classics ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, stepped out from behind the curtain to reiterate that fact, but with a little caveat.

"[SCE] Japan Studio, which is developing The Last Guardian, is working on many games, like Puppeteer and Knack, to name just the publicly announced ones, and those games are of higher priority right now."

Those games are of much smaller scale and budget. I wouldn't even call them AAA, so of course they have to finish smaller titles before shifting focus to The Last Guardian. I think it's almost clear at this point though that The Last Guardian is now a PS4 game. It would explain the lack of coverage since the first reveal. Everyone's been really vague when asked about where it's gone.

I agree. I'm banking on a PS4 reveal at TGS.

sinncross3892d ago

Those games have a firm release date. TLG does not.

Besides, after playing the new Puppeteer demo... damn... that game is going to be so incredible.

Puppeteer is anything BUT small, the game looks gorgeous and outstanding.

@Enemy
I know what you meant by that, didn't think it was a negative thing, but I don't see Puppeteer as a small game,it could easily pass as an AAA retail game.

Don't know how much resources Sony put into this new IP,but I can't believe it's small regarding how good it is.

Enemy3892d ago

Small games could always look gorgeous and outstanding. Look at Journey (endless GOTY awards), Flower, and a bunch of other indie games. It's in no way a negative thing.

When I say Knack and Puppeteer are small, I meant budget wise. They're easier to develop, hence it's better to finish those up and launch them before getting too absorbed in The Last Guardian and having each title take longer to release. That's just called bad strategy.

I'm tired of hearing of this game now.

How about we wait until TGS then try start calling foul

Dang, I loved Ico and Shadow, two of my favorite games. I was curious to see what this game was about but judging from what I read it seems people may have to wait for the PS5 before this comes out.

Seriously though, I really am curious as to what this game is about.

A kid and his bird-cat thing.

An adventure we will never forget... if we get to experience it.

I've played 15, and I wouldn't consider any of those underrated TBH. Some of them are pretty high rated.

banger88128d ago

That's amazing, Gamingbolt actually put all 15 games on the same page.

shinoff2183127d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.

persona4chie127d ago

There’s only 4 of those games I never played, and no most of those aren’t underrated.

The Last Guardian Is One of Gaming’s Most Beautiful Depictions of Friendship

Friendship is hard to depict accurately, but The Last Guardian does a good job of showing all its ups and downs through Trico and the boy.

Technical issues aside, this is easily one of my favorite games from last gen.

ClayRules2012812d ago (Edited 812d ago )

I couldn’t agree more. I’ll never forget the emotional experience I had with this game. After waiting all those years, and than to finally play it. It was a visual beauty, along with offering a story/friendship between the 2 characters that was unique and unforgettable. Far surpassed my expectations. A masterpiece!

Technical issues aside, never have I played anything quite like it!

Magog812d ago

I enjoyed the game but it started out too simple and easy. If the entire game was as intense and challenging as the last 20% it would have been a 10/10 experience.

EvertonFC812d ago

Great game, so underrated. One of my favourites and top 20 games of all time

Phoenix76812d ago

I managed to grab the collectors edition for £40 about a year after it released. Was an enjoyable game, but I had just finished Shadow of the colossus, and whilst I enjoyed it, it was not as good when compared.
