Square Enix Puts 3D-Printed Final Fantasy Figures Out of Business

Square Enix consistently protects its trademarks and copyrights. And still people consistently use them without permission. So it's perhaps not a surprise that an artist selling a Final Fantasy action figure series was shut down when Square's lawyers told his 3D printer to cease and, yes, desist.

Snookies123902d ago

Oh BS! I really wanted some of those too... Man I hate Square Enix at times.....

-Foxtrot3902d ago

at times....

More like the majority of the time

Foxgod3902d ago (Edited 3902d ago )

Dude, thats major copyright infringement..
I am not fond of SE either, but SE is 100% right here, you cant go and earn money on selling other people's IP's.

jerethdagryphon3902d ago

there a loads of small styalized things that escape ip problems cause there differetn if he listed them as 3d prints of animie style chars without names hed probobly get away

Inception3902d ago

I knew it's sucks because i want some of the figures too. But you can't blame SE this time. Those people break the law by use copyright material and sell it without permission from SE. It more or less the same with pirates.

admiralvic3902d ago

Pirates? No.
Bootleggers? Yes.

The main difference is that no one is really making a profit off the pirates, where as bootleggers are stealing money that Square could have made off selling similar figures.

Think of it like this... bootlegging would be selling an illegally made copy of a DVD and making like $3 dollars on it. Not only are the companies losing the purchase, but someone else is directly profiting off their work for minimal / no effort.

NeXXXuS3902d ago (Edited 3902d ago )

Now Squeenix is going to make lots of money making these figures now.

hay3902d ago

One can use this service to print them without the need of Square's approval. Just extract models from the game and convert if necessary.

3-4-53902d ago

Why? What if you had made a game and then realized somebody was making figures of YOUR characters that YOU created, and making money off of it, and it wasn't even their idea, nor their IP to do anything with in the first place.

You'd be kind of mad too.

I do not know much about this litigiousness, but I think the store is exploiting SQEX's FFVII license; therefore, I believe it is a right thing to ban the store. : P

KonsoruMasuta3902d ago

If SE was smart they would would have just asked for a fraction of every sale. That would have been the smarter move.

Baka-akaB3902d ago (Edited 3902d ago )

That would be dumb . They can just make those themselves . Hell maybe they already had plans to . And they already sell various FF7 figures

KonsoruMasuta3902d ago

It would still have been more money in their pockets and less work. Even if they could make them.

Baka-akaB3902d ago (Edited 3902d ago )

Having a middleman is not a good idea at all , when they can do it themselves on a bigger scale and without charges .

Again they already produce toys and figures themselves

Only thing they could do is kick themselves for not thinking of it first .

MWH3902d ago

fuck you article writer, you and your squirt-penis. now we can no longer obtain these beautiful things.

JD_Shadow3902d ago

What in the hell did you just say?

MWH3901d ago

I fought with my fiancé so i'm in negative-mode, want a piece of that pie?

e-p-ayeaH3902d ago

Those low poly character figures actually looked quite cool and nostalgic...

I’m Glad Atlus & SE Changed Dates To Avoid Competing With Shadow Of The Erdtree

Saad from eXputer: "I'm glad I don't have to choose between Square Enix, Atlus, and FromSoftware due to bad release windows and Shadow of the Erdtree."

H917h ago

More intelligent than guerilla games

raWfodog1m ago(Edited 0m ago)

Doesn’t seem ‘more intelligent’ to me.

Atlus is releasing their game one week before Erdtree, SE is releasing theirs one week after.

HZD released four days before Zelda, HFW released one week before Elden Ring.

It seems to me like they are still releasing their games too close to Erdtree.

Yuji Naka guilty of insider trading breaks silence to accuse Square Enix producer of lies

Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle13d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger13d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag13d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Please o please don't turn dragon quest into final fantasy square enix we dont wont that. Dragon quest works well just as it I. Plus you'll piss off Japanese fans to.

jznrpg17d ago

Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.
