Ryse: Son of Rome Hands-On Preview | GameDynamo

GameDynamo - "It seems that what designated AAA titles during this lengthy seventh generation of console games will extend to the next: spectacle. This is a predominant theme in one of the Xbox One's exclusive frontrunners, Ryse: Son of Rome. "

Ryse another must have Xbox One launch game.

this game impressed everyone at E3 and it wasn't even finished yet. Can't wait to see more at Gamescon.

MS firing double shotty's in the air and hitting the clouds! (POWAH!)

Good job guys!

SCW19823899d ago

Not sure what you mean by impressed because all the major news outlets have been extremely dissappointed so far in the actual thing that matters most in a game, GAMEPLAY. This game is gonna bomb on launch.

Funantic13899d ago

I've seen the opposite on websites. People say it's great.

PFFT3899d ago (Edited 3899d ago )

Highly doubtful. RYSE is gonna be SAAAWEEEETT!

Belking3899d ago

That's because you only hang around here where they only post the negative stuff. Ryse looks and plays great. One of the best looking titles at E-3 and it's a xbox exclusive. Strong lineup for MS this holiday.

JokesOnYou3899d ago (Edited 3899d ago )

Sony folks sure are hoping Ryse fails for some unknown reason??? I'm sure its for all the right reasons that only real hardcore ps gamers can see. Just trying to save us unsuspecting gamers from making a big mistake...ahhh well I'm a slow learner, I can't wait to make a big mistake with Ryse being the first game I download day ONE.

SCW19823899d ago

People please show me previews of the game that are not concerned about the mechanics and constant barrage of QTE's I would like to see these previews. Also the Xbox has a strong line up but letting a game get a free pass on graphics alone is insulting to this industry.

Ryse didnt wow me that much

i mean looks good in all but i thought it would be more free style kind of think with finishes like that not just the finishes but i might be totally wrong it might be an awesome game

MWong3899d ago

I still wish this games interface was the Kinect.

Convas3899d ago (Edited 3899d ago )

Well, without getting into all the needless theatrics ... I'm still pretty excited for Ryse.

Then again, I'm excited for Knack too. Hate all you want. I know what I like, I have my own distinct tastes, etc.

Nazara3899d ago

"To that end, and continuing the theme of “spectacle,” each individual confrontation amounts to a bout of quick-time events."

"but there were instances when inputting the incorrect prompt still yielded the same devastating finishing move as a correct one."

The game is ridiculously gorgeous. But every hands on says the same thing. Hopefully a new demo at Gamescom will reveal more depth to the gameplay?

itBourne3899d ago

Wow you dont even have to play the game. Sweet, so pumped for it! Hell who doesnt love an entire game built off qte.

xReDeMpTiOnx3899d ago

Graphically it looks nice from that crytek engine but as most people should know while crytek games look amazing they usually lack substance.

And from what I have seen and heard so far that pretty much proves it lacks substance as the gameplay isn't the greatest.

But things still have time to be ironed out.

Saddam_hussein3899d ago

Would you take this or knack as a launch game?

xReDeMpTiOnx3899d ago

Knack isn't my cup of tea but ryse also don't look that great to me.

So actually nethier.

Launch Line ups have never been the bread and butter of consoles so why should it magically matter now?

Only exclusive launch title that interests me is kzsf on ps4

itBourne3899d ago

Im with you, knack looks like a kids game (difficulty wise), Ryse plays itself and looks like it has no character. So both are meh.

I am getting Killzone mostly for the clan system lol. At least if its like it was in KZ2, that shit should be a staple in all mp games..

PFFT3899d ago

The same can be said about Killzone.
Great looking graphics BUT the story just plain sucks.

xReDeMpTiOnx3899d ago

The story overall for killzone is meh nothing special, but in terms of story for a fps its actually pretty good there's alot about it people don't know.

Now on terms of killzone 3 yes it didn't do anything really special.

But killzone 2 did so many innovative things for a console shooter that is still better than most mp games out there.

- in game clan systems that you can host your own tournaments and private matches ( I mean really no game on consoles do that :/)

- dynamic maps back in 2009

- deep class base

- spawn grenades

And I could go on and on. Anyone who says killzone 2 has don't nothing different or innovative for console shooters is just flat out trolling or is to big of a fanboy to accept it.

Both consoles coming out both have advantages and disadvantages I'm just not one to get mad when someone says something about a console that is true but not nessasarily good like so many people here that jump and cringe at any negative thing said about thier console.

Ryse looks boring and lackluster
Knack looks just totally meh to me

FITgamer3899d ago

I the thought Crysis gameplay was pretty awesome, didn't even need a MP mode.

ceedubya93899d ago

reads like a preview of the old E3 demo.

There's fifteen ancient Rome games?

LG_Fox_Brazil362d ago

Shadow of Rome was so freaking good

Sashamaz362d ago

I'm still waiting for the sequel.

HyperMoused362d ago

Ryse was awesome, i have no idea why it wasnt recieved well and why we havnt seen another, Rome conquered so much, you could take the action anywhere, and it looked great when xbox one came out, now would be even better.

Ryse: Son of Rome Deserves a Second Shot

Ryse: Son of Rome was an Xbox One launch title that has been left to collect dust, but Crytek should set aside Crysis and give Ryse another shot.

It was a great game, it had issues but it can only go up from here.

crazyCoconuts617d ago

It was just ok. Looked really good for an Xbox game though

Snookies12617d ago

"for an Xbox game"

Way to subtly throw shade there. It looked amazing compared to any game at the time it was released.

Never played it myself though, wasn't really interested in it personally. Plus it came at a time when I didn't own an Xbox console. But it was at least different than the usual copy/paste games we get. So I hope it gets another chance sometime soon.

Crows90617d ago

It was a crytek game though

1nsomniac617d ago (Edited 617d ago )

It was a stunning game on all basis. One of the standout games for Xbox as a whole. I ended up buying on pc as well… and yes nothing looked better than it in PC at the time either. Nothing just ok about it, definitely needs a sequel.

fr0sty617d ago

@snookies12, don't pretend like the Xbox One didn't struggle with being gimpled by its tiny pool of ESRAM as a frame buffer. It was significantly weaker than the PS4.

crazyCoconuts617d ago

Metacritic 60, user score 6.4. I'm not alone in putting it into the "ok" category...

VenomCarnage89616d ago

@snookies
Haven't played it but at least you know enough to defend Xbox over it. The game did look good, for an Xbox game. That's not some "subtle shade," it's full on reality.
I remember it being nearly the only graphically decent game on the Xbone for like the first two years after launch, and graphics were that games strength

CrimsonWing69617d ago

I really enjoyed it. Bought it at launch even.

ManMarmalade617d ago (Edited 617d ago )

The qte's were disappointing though. God of war was doing it back in the ps2 days. As gorgeous as the game was, the gameplay needed to be updated.

annoyedgamer617d ago

I really liked the original Ryse but Crytek doesn't have the funds. The mismanaged their properties and let EA raid them with Crysis for the duration of their relationship. Right now they are working on Crysis 4, I doubt they can spare resources to work on a Ryse sequel.

gamer7804617d ago

It would have to be funded by MS, I really liked Ryse sure it got repetitive but the setting visuals and story were good

moriarty1889617d ago

MS should have funded a sequel to Ryse and Sunset OD. Two good franchises they definitely needed last gen.

annoyedgamer617d ago

MS is too busy trying to become the next EA, Ryse wont be on their list of titles to finance unless it gets a hipster makeover with lootboxes.

darthv72617d ago (Edited 617d ago )

I recently bought it for the steamdeck and have to say... 60fps is a game changer. I really wished MS had gotten a one x patch or series boost mode option but sadly, nope. Other games that definitely deserve a second chance (esp on steamdeck/pc) are quantum break and sunset overdrive. Both deserved 60fps support on one x / series but you have to go to PC for that.

Rumor has it Crytek had plans for a Ryse 2 but due to the low turnout for XB (at the time) it was shelved. They really should give this another shot. i dont care if its multiplat on PS and XB and PC and Switch... just so long as part 2 gets made.

babadivad617d ago

The game is automatically boosted on Series X

darthv72617d ago

sorry... but it's not. It still runs at the same fps the XBO did.

lelo2play617d ago

Game was good enough, not great.
Graphically it was top notch. Still holds well till this day.

Crows90617d ago

It only needed more enemy variety and few more movesets or weapons to use. That would have made the experience tons better.

MadLad617d ago

It was a good game.
Only time I saw quick time events actually make me feel engaged.

This is not what I would call value for money spent. They give you quests in liveservice games to get you "re-engaged" with the monetization schemes or to get you hooked or so you at least spend some extra on skins and loot boxes. Then they dole out paltry points after you have already paid extra for whichever liveservice within a liveservice that you are already paying for. My worry is people can't actually be that stupid to fall for this, can they?

littletad623d ago

Absolutely nothing in this comment makes sense. At all.

anast622d ago (Edited 622d ago )

How does it not make sense? O thy god of reason, shine some evidence upon us. Ryse of Rome, ESO,and AC: Origins are all live service games, between them you can get 275 points. Liveservice games are made to keep people spending. Therefore, Gamepass is a live service and the points are for playing live service games.

It is not my problem that this does not make sense to you, it is absolutely your problem. I mean it is all your problem.

Julion0715622d ago (Edited 622d ago )

Hate Xbox but comments in every Xbox article 😂 without making sense smh

anast622d ago

Bring the evidence and then your emoji might make sense.
