The NVidia Shield Is A Gorgeous Console With No Games

UPROXX - The NVidia Shield I’ve had for a day now. I’ve played games on it, I’ve tried it out, and I have to say, it’s gorgeous. It’s got a pleasing weight to it, it’s got thunderous speakers, it’s got a gorgeous screen, it’s got a great gamepad. All the elements for a great game system are here except… what’s the missing ingredient… oh, right. Games.

so technique, invida have to pay for 3rd party to incluse the remote play with Shield on PC game for it to work perfectly, and if they want a excluse game for this device they have to pay event more of that mount, what's a confuse

I think you's is a very confuse.

fermcr3918d ago

Oh boy. Nvidia launches a console but don't have any 1st party development studios to make games for it. Unbelievable!!!

Maybe someone should of told Nvidia that THEY NEED F**CKING GAMES TO SELL A CONSOLE... and with exclusives, even better.

Nvidia knew what they are getting into and probably well aware of the risks of making new consoles in a saturated market especially they don't have a long established partnership with a lot of game developers. Just look at their target: Android games and local streaming of PC games. They are not forcing anyone to make games for their console that actually can cater both Android and PC games. They don't have have to beg for developers to make games for the Shield because any Android games can be played on them with control issues being the only major thing to fix. Nvidia is just setting up a niche for themselves in a game market so they can expand on it in the future. Something called investment.

Now look at PS Vita and Wii-U. Both are the latest iterations of established handheld consoles with established support from developers for years, decades even. We should be seeing tons of games being pumped out regularly and yet we see a lot of those developers simply shuffling their feet around when asked about the handheld versions of their games. These handheld consoles shouldn't be facing problems like Shield and yet we hear their death announced almost every week.

I agree, Nvidia wants to make Android a serious gaming platform. The problem with that is that Android is also prone to piracy so I don't think a lot of devs want to risk releasing a high budget game for it. For now I have to admit that the Vita and Wii U are having trouble but I'm seeing good signs that good games are now being released for them on a monthly basis. The 3DS also suffered from game droughts but after a while things improved.
There's a lot of potential with the Shield, but I am very uncertain if that will be properly used.

@fermcr - that's one ignorant comment, dude. Do you even understand what this device does?

ginsunuva3917d ago

You don't use first party studios for android console. They just tell existing android devs to put a controller scheme onto their games, and viola, it works with shield.

NewsForge3917d ago

Games? All nvidia brags about is benchmark scores with their latest GPU's...

Arrogance. Whoever is in charge, doesn't actually "understand" the business, they are the person in charge though so " they make the decisions"..

Just a theory, but yea I have a feeling there are a few NON-gamers making decisions over there.

swishersweets200313916d ago

its the same company that says they wont make ps3 aftermarket controllers because "they dont feel the system is good enough".. that should give you a clue on how their business is run.

SHIELD is destined to FAIL from the get go with how it natively works! it will have a better appeal if and only if Steam is supported natively on the device and can be played anywhere, not just streaming from your pc and limited to the same network.

I can't believe they actually created this monstrosity. How could anybody think it would be a good idea?

ginsunuva3917d ago

It's a good idea for PC streaming and soon-to-launch GRID streaming.

Android games,... For some reason every company thinks it's some giant bandwagon.

badz1493917d ago

streaming pc games is a good idea but it's a RETARDED idea if it only work on the same network your pc is which is only AT HOME!

just think about it. you have SHIELD and you're at home. then, you feel like playing some pc games. what would you do? play it on your awesome pc on big monitor or tv at high resolution with your beloved kb+m OR run the games on your pc and stream it so you can play it on the heavier-than-usual-controller SHIELD on small screen, 720p and a controller?

it can play Android games too, you say? you don't already have a smartphone for that? and oh, ever heard of Bluestacks?

I was looking forward to this device, the original benchmarks they showed were fantastic looking.

But after seeing all the recent once's they completely lied out of there butt, the ones they released showed that it barely increased 20fps over the Tegra 3 chips.
