Nintendo Enthusiast:
With the discourse of eSports and competitive gaming developing year after year, Nintendo’s all-star fighting franchise and its passionate, competitive community has been gradually growing larger. Melee’s revitalized strength, Brawl’s casual accessibility, and the media explosion surrounding Melee’s possible ban from being streamed at Evo 2013 have set up competitive Smash Bros. for years of continued growth and prosperity, especially with the next installment of the series coming sometime next year.
Despite years of feeling ignored and outright hated by the game’s creator, the competitive community can finally recognize a ray of light poking through the dark clouds above. Smash Bros. designer Masahiro Sakurai has spoken of Smash for Wii U and 3DS’s focus on finding a happy medium between Melee and Brawl in terms of gameplay...
NetherRealm confirms its Mortal Kombat franchise has sold over 80 million copies in the last 30 years, and here's how it competes against other fighters.
Don't care what anyone says, Smash isn't a traditional fighting game. May as well call Powerstone and Playstation All Stars fighting games. They're more of an arena fighter /party game.
Including Smash Bros in a list of fighting games, is like including GTA in Racing games.
The designer of the original Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 shows us the prototype that started it all.
Kim writes: "Super Smash Bros. will not be shown at Evo 2022, this year's biggest fighting game event. The Sony-owned sports organization announced the loss of the platformer in a statement on Twitter today, and seemed to blame the decision on Nintendo, which has historically tried to control how their games appear in the wild."
In away this hurts Nintendo Smash Bros has some dedicated fans. What better way to help build hype and sell more of the game then showcasing it at EVO.
It has a huge following. I just can't get into it, but I do respect it. Nintendo took a big risk having all their franchises fighting each other.
Good job Nintendo.
button mashing fighting games will never oust RTS games from ESPORTS.
