Sony's PS4 Has Fifty Percent Lead Over Microsoft's Xbox One, Says Strategy Analytics Survey

Sony's PS4 will have the edge over Microsoft's Xbox One in the new games console battle which will erupt later this year according to feedback from Strategy Analytics' latest ConsumerMetrix survey. According to the report, "Games Consoles: Purchase Intention Index Q2 2013", 14.2 percent of consumers are very or somewhat likely to buy a PS4 within the next twelve months compared to 9.5 percent who will buy an Xbox One. If the results were reflected in sales data this would imply that sales of PS4s would be nearly fifty percent higher than Xbox One. The survey interviewed a representative population sample of more than 6000 respondents across the US and Europe in June 2013.

The YTD list gives a better idea of where they sit compared to each other. Yeah it's only one retailer, but a huge one. 3 PS4 SKU vs 1 Xbox One in the top 100. PS3 will be number one once all the consoles are sold and production stopped. I think it's you who need to "deal with it" since you seem kinda butthurt over this piece of info. It's been obvious from the get go how things would end with x360 and PS3 atleast. Now that Wii has almost stopped it's easy to see PS3 winning this gen. All they need is 2-3 years worth of time on the storeshelf.

After that PS3 will keep on being supported most likely and it will end up next to the PS2 with 130-150 million sold. This is common knowledge when we know the hisrtory of these consoles/companies.

6000 is a pretty significant sample size, honestly.

And the one you're more interested in is fairly reflective of the one you'd buy first, or at all if you could only buy one. I mean, no one would say, "I'm more interested in the XB1, but I'd buy a PS4 first." That's just not logical.

And no one's acting like it's a sure thing. Even in the line you quote, they use "if" and "imply," indicating a higher probability, not a certainty.

Does anyone know exactly where the survey was taken? I did a survey in my office here, and 75% said they were getting X1, because we play online anyway, and love Halo, and COD, where its best to play on Xbox live. I do not know about the other guys next door.

14.2 is 32% more than 9.5. This means for every 10 PS4's sold, approx 7 XboxOne will sell.

PS3 sold 13.3 million consoles annually compared to Xbox360's 11.4 million. That is 15% more PS3's a year give or take.

The survey is saying that Microsoft has lost 15% "intent" to date on a system that is months away from launch. I wonder who pays for these surveys?

Here is the thing PS4 is all around the better system 4 many reasons 1 it has better specks wich is more future proof console. 2 it has way better and I mean wayyy better 1rst party devs then X1 when it comes to games. 3 PS plus as in right now kills live when it comes to intertinment free full games that people want to play like SR3 DX human Unchartec 3 and many more huge savings in DLCS Avatars movies and themes and it will get only better with PS4. And I'm not just being fanboy cause I also have a 360 and the only good thing about is better online servers 4 games and party chat but that will all change with PS4 and well live is pretty much useless compared to ps plus unless Ms does something similar to ps plus on X1 wich I highly don't think they will as MS Luvs to rip people off. We just did comic-con and 90% of the buzz on the show floor was in favor of the PS4.

MS still hasn't shook off the negativity they earned at E3. Consumers are still confused about DRM (a few actually told me they still believed 360 won't play used games.) And a TON of people said they simply don't want Kinect in their living room. More than anything else Kinect is harming the Xbox One.

This is completely speculative and jumping the gun a bit. The ps4 is not significantly more powerful than the xbox at all, the ps4 graphic chip may be more powerful than xboxs alone, but remember xbones graphics chip is coupled with an embedded esram, which could make up for that. Even if that doesn't make up for it. The final result will be very similar (especially 3rd person titles). Even if the ps4 does have higher potential for better games, remember the ps3 was technically more powerful than the 360, but due to Sony building its consoles to be very awkward for developers to make use of that power, result being the games were very similar on both platforms. And apparently Sony have done the same again. Anyway its silly to say the ps4 is 50% better as xbones specs haven't been fully released as its upgrading its gpu. In the end both consoles will play games with a very similar result.

There's no denying that the Xbox One has a better lineup of games so far. I keep hearing Killzone this Killzone that... that series is known for nothing else than looking awfully pretty. I've grown up. I expect a lot more from my games than just gorgeous graphics. That's not to say that PS4 won't have some amazing games in the future because they surely will. But as of right now, I've seen nothing that makes me want to preorder a PS4. That being said, I'm almost afraid to see what game gets released for it that's going to make me say, "TAKE MY MONEY NOW, SONY!" because it will be sure to be something flat out jaw dropping. If Deep Down does wind up being a PS4 exclusive as the rumors have stated, that will most likely be the one that does it for me.
