Why Is “Ryse” Son Of Rome Being Slept On By Gamers?

"Thekingslayer.com Why are gamer's hating on "Ryse" Son of Rome? In fact why is there a concerted effort to down play games shown at E3 for the Xbox One? Sony didn't show much for the Playstation 4 in terms of games. Most in fact say that if were not for DRM, Price, and a no change policy on used games. Sony didn't come to E3 2013 with their best. Instead what we saw in February was pretty much it. Looking online this may seem like a minority view point, but if E3 is about the games. Where were the games for the Playstation 4 that showed off 50% more power than the Xbox One? "Ryse" Son of Rome shows us just how power on paper is just that. On paper."

Really? The game looks like a giant quick time event with minimal control, the only wow factor I saw from it was the graphics, but for me graphics arent enough to make me buy a game.

Enemy3928d ago

It's a Kinect game at heart. A better question is, why is anyone looking forward to it after seeing it in action?

Docknoss3928d ago

Bc it looked amazing, it doesn't even have quick time and also it can be turned off. Nay Say all you want but its a game Sony wishes it had. Plus Sonys E3 was extremely lame. The price was all it had going for it. PS4 exclusives list is the weakest list of exclusives don't has ever had. Now I know Sony supposedly has a ton of exclusives coming but those are probably two years from releasing (you know I'm right). Last Guardian is would be a great exclusive but its taking a decade to develope. Xbox and Sony both said they will be showing more exclusives. So let's hope sony has some games up they're sleeves. bc I would hate to see what kind of made up negative xbox articles Sony fans will would come up with to combat the negatives the ps4 has to the One. Right now xbox is winning the exclusives war

Diver3928d ago

mashing to mastery? no thanks.

QuickdrawMcgraw3928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

Dock how can anyone be winning the exclusive war. There are no games or consoles released yet.MS or Sony can announced all the games they want.Let's see just how many actually get released. With MS track record on the 360 with their exclusives drying up.I'll be pleasantly surprised if they release a 3rd of what they have announced.

I was at E3 too and like both Sony and Microsoft booth with all their exclusives and swag wear you get. Plus you get free Game Informer Magazines, and etc. I digress.

So what was so lame about the Sony's booth? You didn't like Knack, driveclub, warframe, and others?

Sony booth had a couple of PS4 games playable, including many indie games for it. The only disappointment was that you couldn't play Killzone or Infamous Second Son, but you can watch the actual developers play those games behind close doors though. Plus you get to play PS3 booth and Vita with all those games like GT6 and the Last of Us(a new demo level 2 days before the game comes out). I find it funny that not even Call of Duty Ghost was playable, but Battlefield 4 was!!! Man I have a great time playing that game, especially when you take down that building.

For the Xbox booth I got to agree, Ryse was the best thing there. Its not the so called Kinect/quick time event people are making it sound like. You can actually fight without using the quick time buttons. Killer Instincts had the arcade controls(crowded like any popular fighting game), and I beat somebody on my first try with Sabrewolf(You got to be skilled to use Jago). Forza 5 was awesome, especially with its little car show, showing off a real model car from the game. Wish I could of played Dead Rising 3 though, instead of waiting too long just to watch it for 25 minutes in a uncomfortable seat lol!!!

Nintendo booth was just as crowded as well with Mario Kart( Really great) to help out. Bayonetta 2 was a nice 20 minute demo going those 2 levels. Plus you can play the game traditional way or on the Wii U control itself using a stylist. A guy and a really hot girl show me how to play hehe! I was jealous that one of my friends from my Game Design Class got a picture with Shigeru Miyamoto(Wanted to see that man for years)hehe! Well at least I got a picture with Nolan North! I had a great time at E3, and I am planning to go again next year. Nuff said.

whoyouwit043928d ago

so says the guy with the infamous second son avatar. I bet if this was on PS4 you would be drooling all over it.

So did you like heavy rain? Are you even excited about Beyond. This question is not just for you but for all the other people that agreed with you.

AyeUMadBro3928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

The game has qte but you have the option to kill them any other way, my favorite genres is hack n' slash and some of my favorite games are riddled with qte, so what? Every time I have to finish a boss in GoW I have to hit a series of qte buttons and it is still an excellent franchise.
Ryse is a game I look foreword to but c'mon guys you're talking about launch titles like they are the definitive experience.

BTW my fav hack n' slash's are GoW, DMC, and Ninja Gaiden.

Ausbo3927d ago

i preordered the game and then cancelled it. Im hoping we get reviews a few days before so see if its worthy of a last minute preorder.

Im a little concerned, but hopefully we will see more of the game very soon.

Gamer6663927d ago

If you would've read the article you would know that the quick time events are optional finishers.

This is just like God of War and many other games. Personally, I liked what I saw in the game demo, although I would've liked to see more in depth stuff.

pr0t0typeknuckles3927d ago

1 I did read the article
2this game looks nothing like god of war gameplay wise, hence it doesnt look over the top, fast n fluid combat.with varying gameplay.

I can understand that. If it's not your cup of tea why look forward to it is valid.

FrigidDARKNESS3928d ago

True, QTE adds to the realism and excitement to the game. The game visuals and graphics are stunning.

I totally agree with you it may not be for some gamers.

Hicken3928d ago

Why do I get the feeling you were among the first to blast Heavy Rain for QTEs?

-Mika-3928d ago

Because it a XB1 exclusive.

pr0t0typeknuckles3928d ago

If this was a Sony exclusive id trash them for it too, even though they are my favorite out of the big 3,heck I didnt really like ps all stars,i talk bad about the ps move why because unlike fanboys who are afraid to express their opinion,i actually say hey Sony this sucks.

Ausbo3927d ago

Thats good. But this site is reaking of fanboys of all kinds. Of course the sony ones are the most prevalent. Because you can't say an xbox game looks good without getting 1000 disagrees

Megaton3928d ago

Because the game is so casual QTE that it will actually play itself if you stop pressing things, according to Kotaku.

gamertk4213928d ago

Knack can be played with primarily right stick and face buttons, ergo by your logic, it too will suck. Now Cerny no longer loves you. Good day.

JeffGUNZ3927d ago

Wait, so you're telling me Heavy Rain sucked? Come on.Ryse looks fun.

Megaton3927d ago

I haven't played Heavy Rain, but that looked like a point-and-click adventure game with QTE action scenes. I would like to play it someday.

Ryse just looks like pure on-rails QTE, except it's so casual that nothing bad happens to you if you miss them.

JeffGUNZ3927d ago

Heavy Rain was fantastic, pick it up, you'll love it. Ryse, if I am correct, is not all QTE, I believe Crytek stated they altered that demo to show all the different executions. I want to see more of the game, running the final version to see, but it still looks like it would be a good time. System seller, probably not. Still, looks fun.

Dr Pepper3928d ago

Before the reveal I was very much looking forward to how they altered it, since they said the controller was now how the game was played. Taking that into consideration, along with the CG trailer from a few years back that showed a massive battle that the player was supposedly a part of, I was ready to see some next-gen epic battle...stuff.

The reveal showed a corridor of a level filled with button prompts. Then the developers saying you didn't even need to hit the button prompts for you to succeed. So, the developers are holding your hand on two different levels. The only thing that felt like a step in the right direction was the visuals. Everything else felt so very dated. I wanted to see a huge battle field to explore, TONS of enemies, combat that wasn't based around 300-style slowdown scenes.

The game might have those things, but I haven't seen it yet. You only have one chance to make a first impression, and my first impression was a figurative hallway of X, X, X, A, X.

Quote:
"So why exactly are gamers sleeping on “Ryse” Son of Rome? The word fear comes to mind. Fear that what Microsoft and Crytek are doing with the hardware, and features of the Kinect 2.0 can not be duplicated on other platforms."

Features, like voice command being used for a game like Ryse, can be duplicated on other platforms. I did it with Rainbow Six on the original Xbox. As for "fear", the only fear I have is that a developer will depend/focus so heavily on the visuals that the game is one step away from playing itself. That is my fear, and I hope Crytek can prove me wrong with a new gameplay showcase in the future.

Rainbow Cotton Interview: Lead Programmer Sheds Light on the Dreamcast Remake

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "If you haven't played Rainbow Cotton before, you're not alone. A Dreamcast exclusive released only in Japan, it's not exactly a household name. Looking to change that, and bring the sixth-gen game back into the spotlight, is German studio KRITZELKRATZ 3000, which — with the backing of publisher ININ and original developer SUCCESS — has remade the 3D shoot-'em-up from the ground up. Featuring several modern quality-of-life upgrades, plus HD graphics and a brand new local co-op mode, it promises to merge the past and present when it launches digitally on consoles and PC on May 9.

Ahead of the game's release, I chatted with Andreas Scholl, technical director at KRITZELKRATZ 3000 and lead programmer for Rainbow Cotton, about what fans can expect from the remake."
