Vincent Brooks, the main character of the 2011 puzzle/psychological title Catherine, serves to drive the premise of the game but wins few points as a protagonist.
Saad from eXputer: "I'm glad I don't have to choose between Square Enix, Atlus, and FromSoftware due to bad release windows and Shadow of the Erdtree."
Plenty of unforgettable games have completely messed up their players throughout the years, all the way back from the PS1 days to the dark recesses of the modern internet.
Deadly Premonition is a pretty weird game, but all of these absolute oddities are even weirder.
Great stuff - definitely agree, but I think that is the point. I think we can, though, all come to the agreement that Catherine was awesome!
I think Vincent is a great protagonist because he isn't a white knight, moralist or anything. Considering the supernatural elements and clear anime-style his actions are reasonable enough to suspend disbelief and from there we can shape what happens.
Another example is Joel from The Last of Us. He, like Vincent, stands out because he doesn't make the "right" decisions all the time. Most of us, to varying degrees, would make the selfish or easy choice if we were put in the plot of a video game.
Vincent, unlike most game characters, seems more human than many I have played as. A couple of people on this team must have known what it's like to cheat on a significant other or at least be caught in morally complex situation in wjicj you'll try as hard as possible to navigate yourself through life decisions while not taking the most direct or thought out course. Vincent is a great character because like most of us he makes dumb mistakes, trips over his morality and questions his own intentions and motivations. Anyone who says they've never done otherwise is fooling themselves or lying to you :)
Vincent was awesome I love all those faces he makes! ;P
I think it will be hard to find someone who actually sympathizes with Vincent except for cheaters of course lol =P. He is not really a likable character and you spend a majority of the game keeping secrets from two women. It really is a bad boyfriend sim =P. I think Vincent is not supposed to be a character that most people can relate to and more of character that just provides an interesting experience and keeps you intrigued to see what happens next. If it was a good person stuck in this story, it may have not been as interesting or the game would have had to been created a different way. His friends are interesting and I would say that Orlando, Jonathan, and Toby could have their own game.
