Movie Tie-ins: Why So Bad?

Catwoman. Minority Report. Charlie’s Angels. ET. Street Fighter: The Movie. I could continue but chances are you’ve played or at least heard of one of the titles listed – and probably not for the reasons the developers hoped. Movies and video games have always had something of a strange relationship – games that aspire to cinematic greatness like Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear series and movies that pander to gamers like Disney’s Wreck-it Ralph are both becoming increasingly common. Straight-up adaptations are also rife throughout both mediums. It seems like such a perfect match, like bread and butter – why, then, does it often seem more like pizza and ice cream?

its content. Trying to take a movie and make it a game means the developers have to create content to extend the game past the typical running time of a movie. That isnt such a bad thing provided the content is relevant to the movie.

when you do the flip side of things...taking a game and making it into a movie...now we have the issue of taking what could be several hours worth of content in the game and squeezing it down to the typical running time of a movie.

the idea has always been sound but the execution is where the problem really lies. There are lots of games that would make really good movies (if done right) just as there are lots of movies that could make really good games (again, if done right).

As long as there is a market for it...both will continue to be made and there will be a few good ones among the crap.

I loved the Catwoman game. It was the first game I ever finished. That game will always have a special place in my heart.

Where's the "/s" ? That game is soooo terrible. Like, the definition of terrible. Terrible. LOL. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. But, once again, were you joking ??

mafiahajeri3935d ago

There was a cat women game? Couldn't have been worse than the movie...

JohnApocalypse3935d ago

Maybe it is time to just let Goldeneye go. People keep e-begging for this game and it came back in various iterations; remastered and original and in the end it was just meh. The game was a product of its time like Perfect Dark and Timesplitters.

Father__Merrin38d ago

It's from a bygone era that was good at the time but is pants now. Same with turok.

NotoriousWhiz38d ago

Whoa whoa whoa. Turok still holds up great.

YourMommySpoils38d ago

Isn't that like considering every other game too.

P_Bomb38d ago

When in doubt, port it out.

jznrpg38d ago

The game was a lot of fun for its time but damn that was a long time ago.

anast38d ago

There are better shooters now and better worlds.

Want to know what the best selling N64 games of all time are? Here's the top ten list, with many fan favourites and a couple of surprises.

Ninver360d ago

Never understood what 64 meant. Can anyone enlighten me? All I know is my neighborhood friends and I used to play the crap out of it. Favorite games were Cool Boarders, Mario kart 64, WCW vs NWO just to name a few. Man life was simple and good.
