Do We Care About New Nintendo IPs?

IGN - Shigeru Miyamoto says he's working on a new franchise for Wii U. What does that mean? Does Nintendo really need new IPs? Rich and Sam discuss.

AWBrawler3935d ago

apparently not, since everyone forgets every new IP Nintendo makes each gen. Tho I love Rolling Western, Sakura Samurai, Pushmo, Steel Diver, and ASH, most people either don't know they exist, or ignore them completely

Zodiac3935d ago

I've heard of those, but they are not as popular as Mario or Zelda, so maybe they don't actually exist?

It's nice to hear that a "true" new Nintendo Ip(whatever that means to pple) is being worked on by the NIntendo man himself.

dark-hollow3935d ago

To be honest this isn't the reason they are obscure.

Look at pikmin, it was a new IP in the GameCube era and now one of Nintendo's valuable franchises.

If they invest well on a new AAA IP with good marketing then it should fare well.

The only problem is the high expectations from people thinking those new IPs gonna rival the likes of Mario or Zelda.

Pisque3935d ago

We don't care because we play real consoles

PopRocks3593935d ago

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If people are going to complain about Nintendo not producing new IPs then the least they can do is support the new ones they DO make. Or at least make yourself more knowledgeable. It's pretty weird seeing someone complain about Nintendo "just reusing the same old IPs" when Wonderful 101 and X are sitting right there on the table. There's even a sequel to Kid Icarus out and another coming for Pikmin, both of which have not been touched in at least a decade.

i agree. and i believe one of the main reasons for this is that, a lot of gamers have this misconception that a new IP has to be some AAA big title, something familiar in terms of gameplay, and perhaps something that will appeal to so-called hardcore gamers. so when Nintendo rolls out Wii Fit, Dillon's Rolling Western, Pushmo, Brain Age, etc. they don't consider them new IPs coz either it's not a conventional "game", or it's not something with a skyrocketing budget or a shooter. what they only see are the new Marios, Zelda, etc. which only comes out about 1 in every 2 or even more years, as opposed to "known" franchises that are annual fares.

PigPen3935d ago

Don't say do we care, do you care about new Nintendo IPs. Speak for yourself, as if you have a following. Why wouldn't anyone want new IPs from Nintendo. Speaking for myself, I know I do.

jcnba283934d ago

Yet you cared enough to comment on the article...and every other WIi U article for that matter.

"We want new IPs, Nintendo!"

*Miyamoto announces that he's working on a new franchise*

"Do we really care about new IPs, Nintendo?"

*flips table*

Donnieboi3935d ago (Edited 3935d ago )

^ This. The article makes no sense. Just fishing for hits. Why the hell would anyone not want new IP's?

PopRocks3593934d ago

This will sound ridiculous but you'd be surprised how isolated and sheltered some peoples' tastes are. It's part of why Call of Duty does so well each year.

exfatal3934d ago

Exactly this, there is no pleasing people here at n4g. What nintendo needs to do is advertise the shit outta w.e new I.P it is they are coming out with, Such as Wonderful 101, Monolith X, and w.e game they are working on behind the curtains. Nintendo has money to waste so they should be wasting it on ADVERTISING.

makes me super sad face when i talk about Wii U and people say whats that? or think i just mean the Wii -_-

That Time Miyamoto Wanted Goldeneye on N64 to End With Handshakes

well, I have a feeling we'll be coming back to those days with how everyone is offended by something...

EazyC1135d ago (Edited 1135d ago )

Outwardly...it has more to do with validation than offence.

I think back to the 90s when DOOM was offending the religious middle class... parents were genuinely offended by the violent material...idiotic mentality of course, but I genuinely believe their core sensibilities/morals felt attacked. Much like Marilyn Manson's music did.

I don't really buy that today. We're so exposed to every pit of the human experience that I don't actually believe that raving lunatics on Twitter actually feel that offended by ANYTHING they claim. It's just trendy/herd mentality.

The resulting effect is the same of course...your favourite show/host/artist is suddenly 'cancelled' because some screeching 17 year old vegans on the internet couldn't apparently tolerate that they used an old-fashioned term or some other trivial nonsense... but the disingenuousness of it all is really irritating me at the min.

I’m a little offended that you had feelings in regards to this article. I’d like to schedule a zoom call with you to discuss this matter further. We can iron it out with a virtual handshake. If this works for you, have your therapist and lawyer call mine.

Meanwhile Ganondorf throws up blood, and Link then goes to impale him in the throat as Ganon.

Jeriphro1136d ago

Meanwhile, Eternal Darkness was a GameCube exclusive that came out 5 years after Goldeneye 007, and it contained horror, blood, and psychological terror, among other things. haha. Nintendo can be really weird about how they want to filter things.

TricksterArrow1135d ago

I miss Eternal Darkness dearly. ):

iplay1up21135d ago

Eternal Darkness needs a sequel and a full fledged remake!
