lol $2 difference. plus its the same price as psn... lol

Campy da Camper3933d ago

You are missing one key point. Xbox owners pay for live then buy game in xbl for new price. PlayStation owners pay for plus and get BIG discounts on games for sale on psn.

All the plus bashers forget its not just the games we "rent" each month but the huge discounts on most purchases.

kraigslist_killa3932d ago

Expect Microsoft to say that it was a mistake...after seeing the lower game sales report at the end of the month. lol

nukeitall3933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

Didn't people want currency?

Well you got it, and the price was raised to match PSN!

Congratulations, you got what you wanted and screwed everyone else.

I have been saying all along, with points, content where cheaper. I was also cheaper to buy points on sale, so that made it doubly cheap.

but hey, now you got the convenience of your own currency! Enjoy it!

Kryptix3933d ago

The thing is that they didn't know that it would slightly raise prices. Microsoft could of made it clear that if they do this, prices will raise by a small percentage and try to keep it how it was. It's still a beta, they can still turn it back but since they already announced the change...I doubt it will happen. Whichever one they go for, they will get some backlash. Either be considered liars or thieves. Like I said, they should of explained it, but knowing Microsoft more now, even something simple like that wouldn't be clear.

nukeitall3933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

@Kryptix:

What is there to explain?

Just look at the prices between PSN and XBL, and we see the prices are raised to match PSN.

What do you think MS would do? Give you free money?

MS don't get to be a profitable multi-billion company being a charity.

You asked for it, you got it!

Don't ask for it, if you didn't know what you were asking for.

Anyhow, thanks for pissing in the pool for the rest of us even though you weren't using the pool!

SilentNegotiator3932d ago

How is it gamers' fault that Microsoft decided to increase prices?

S2Killinit3932d ago

@nukeitall
you are assuming that people saying they prefer to know how much they are spending is the same as saying raise the prices. MS could have kept the prices lower if they wanted to and still switch to currency. Don't put it on consumers, this is MS.

PSVita3932d ago

"You get what you pay for" oh wait no, you'll get the same.

DonFreezer3932d ago

Yeah that the problem when a company listens to the gamers of the competitive product and not their own. They probably heard ps fanboys crying aout paying more and not using points and they made that to their customer base.

nukeitall3932d ago

@SilentNegotiator:

"How is it gamers' fault that Microsoft decided to increase prices?"

MS didn't decide to price it higher, because content holders want parity on price for the most part.

With points that is obscured, and now it isn't and prices are raised to match the competitor.

You asked for it, because you couldn't figure out the value of your points so deal with it!

CommonSense3932d ago

A few weeks ago i got 1200 points for 5 bucks during a sale. I stocked up, but i should have gotten even more. Got State of Decay for about 8 bucks though, so that was pretty sweet.

prices are the same here in the usa

dark-hollow3933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

Yeah let's NOT read the article at all!

You people bitched about ms point? Now you got this. Xbla was always cheaper than psn due to the unified prices with the points but no there is now points and the prices MATCHES the psn one.

But oh yeah, never mind just continue on your M$ IS EVILZ parade.

lex-10203932d ago

So please tell me where this "unified prices" comes from. Because I'm fairly sure this: http://n4g.com/news/1308053...

Proves your argument wrong.

I Don't Blame Microsoft For Rassing The Prices They Have To MakE Up The Mone For Those "Free Games" They're "Giving"

1Victor3933d ago

LOL It's A JK We All Know Microsoft Don't Need Money They Have Their Own Presses

Hello_World3933d ago

Lol! This is why I'm going PS4 next gen. It's to the point where even the hardcore Xbox fanboys know what they're dealing with, it's just will you allow them to treat you this way? And the fact that PS4 genuinely looks better and is cheaper. Common sense.

FinalFantasyFan3933d ago

@mewhy32

"However, we need competition in the market."
But with the way micro$oft are now doing things, they're not providing any competition whatsoever.

lex-10203932d ago

@miDnIghtEr20C_SfF

What does his computer have to do with anything? Microsoft video games =\= windows os. Sure as a whole Microsoft does over charge for products but Xbox has nothing to do with Windows, and quite frankly Windows is the most supported computer operating system. Most things are made for windows, games included (look at Steam and compare windows games to mac or linux games). So refusing to use Windows because you don't support Microsoft's policies on Xbox is like shooting yourself in the foot because your arm hurts. It's two very different things that are operated and run by two very different Presidents, VPs, and Board of Directors.

_FantasmA_3932d ago

That's the difference between M$ fans and Sony fans. Sony fans still keep their eyes open and will tear Sony a new one when they see something wrong (go the US PlayStation blog every monday if you don't believe me). M$ fans could have their house set on fire, their babies eaten by Don Matrick, and their console can RROD 7 times and Xbots will still brag about how Live is t3h best!

CRAIG6673932d ago

There appears to be some general confusion about Xbox Live's real-world pricing and point conversions for those currently in the company's beta program. We've received tips of prices having both favorable and negative exchange rates, so we followed up with Microsoft to find out what's going on.

"We are aware that select regions experienced some incorrect game title pricing in the Xbox Live beta. This was an unintended error that we are in the process of fixing," a Microsoft spokesperson informed Joystiq. "We'll be reimbursing impacted beta participants for the difference in what was paid and what the price will be after the update is available to all members.

"Of note, beta programs give us a chance to test, fix and correct issues like this. As with all betas, we take the learnings from our program and make corrections and adjustments prior to the update being available to all members. As always, we appreciate the participation of our beta customers in helping us launch and build great products."

The company previously told us Xbox's conversion to local currency will be "equal or greater" than the existing Microsoft Point value

awi59513932d ago (Edited 3932d ago )

HEY STUPID PEOPLE ON THIS SITE. IGN,1up and all the games media complained about points and like stupid gamers they didnt looke at the consequences. Microsoft points was a TAX LOOPHOLE no points you pay more because now microsoft has to pay taxes on these games its all every who complained fault so enjoy your higher prices you idiots that complained about the microsoft points.

Kingthrash3603932d ago

so your ok with the rich exploiting tax loopholes? this is their choice not ours. theyve made their consumers distrust and dislike them. not our fault ..they got caught trying to rape gamers wallets and now they are paying the price. EVERYTHING they do from now on is under a microscope... good or bad..... and it all their fault.

awi59513932d ago

@Kingthrash360

The tax loop hole was saving us money not microsoft the points cost less than actual money. NOW they are charging us tax do you really think they are going to take the hit thats why the games are higher. That is why Eve online has fake money because some players have corporations worth 25 thousand dollars if they didnt have fake money The IRS would be up their ass. Why are gamers so stupid they comment without knowning anything about the subject.

Yet another dickhead move by MS, what the fuck is going on over in Redmond.

die_fiend3933d ago

It's run by people who know what you like

Cam9773933d ago

They were trying autofellatio, got stuck and had to call Bill's mom to run the company. To this day their balls remain in their stone-dry mouths.

Their nose is now their primary material-entry point. Bill's Mom kindly bought them some straws to help them drink and eat their blended McDonald's Big Mac meals.

dark-hollow3933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

The dickheads are the whiny babies who cried about ms points "omgzz I have 20 points left I can't do anything without it!!"

Due to conversion rates the ms points where universal across the world so the prices were cheaper than the psn. Now they are in line with the psn prices due to using real currency.

You asked for it, you get served.

WilliamH3933d ago

It only took them 7 years, MS points were deliberately confusing so they could rip off people a little here and little there. Sony & Nintendo all the baby from now on!

dark-hollow3933d ago

So damned if they do damned if they don't?

How this is a dickhead move removing something YOU ALL bitched about? By your own logic isn't Nintendo and Sony the dickheads for having more expensive prices since 7 years ago?

Pope_Kaz_Hirai_II3932d ago

No your a dick microsoft was saving us from paying taxes. Now they have no choice to make us pay taxes now because they are using real money. You know nothing about the situation at all.

The whole purpose of microsoft points was avoiding having to charge consumers taxes its a typical move by game makers thats why Eve online has a fake currency because some players have corporations worth 20 thousand dollars do you really think the IRS is not going to come after you if they know you have a online account worth 30 thousand dollars. We had law makers a few years ago trying to tax people in second life because people were making crazy amounts of money online the fake money is a pass for online transactions to avoid taxes.

vikingland13933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

The article says it puts it in line with PSN prices? So it was cheaper before? I'm confused.

Edit; if it's the same price as PSN games then what's the big deal?

CustardTrout3933d ago

Due to conversion rates; MSP was universal so games could be cheaper but it was less flexible.
With the flexibility games are now on par with PSN games

GodGinrai3933d ago

Yeah,I read that part.still sucks they they bump the price though. for a company that wants us to go digital, they sure have a funny way of showing it.

S2Killinit3932d ago

because it was universal, it would have been cheaper for some countries and more expensive for others.

awi59513932d ago

PSN charges tax xbox doesnt microsoft points let us avoid taxes on our online purchases guess what you are going to have to pay taxes now and it causes games to cost more.

awi59513931d ago

Its because of taxes with real money. With the fake microsoft points it was cheaper because they werent charging us tax. Playstation charges tax thats why xbox games had to go up in price.

The guy who wrote the article found this? Wouldn't be surprised if his account got banned, it was against the agreement to speak about it anywhere except the private forum for the beta.

hadouken0073933d ago

The hell, ? u can't speak about it or your banned ?

1nsaint3933d ago

Lol it's true, when you sign up for the beta, you have to sign a NDA which says if you leak info you will be banned from xbox live untill the beta ends.
Plus you will be on a black list for future betas :p

MxRBrobaFett3932d ago

Exactly what 1nsaint said. We all had to agree to a non disclosure agreement when we signed up for the beta and we aren't supposed to discuss anything about the beta anywhere outside of the official forum. That being said I'm not even here and have never heard of this currency change or... What's an Xbox?

Great platform, and many of its games (not bc) still hold up well to this day. Like the PS3, I keep a 360 hooked up for those games you can't play any other way.

Happy Birthday. OG XBL (and later 360 XBL) really revolutionized online gaming on console.

Crows90516d ago

Never understood the obsession with live...but I was gaming online on PC so not sure too much of what live did that the PlayStation didn't.

Profchaos516d ago

I had a PS2 and it's online experience was fine but it didn't have the same level of polish voice chat never worked for me but I was trying to play from Australia where not many people played PS2 online to the point where many devs simply dropped the online mode from the pal version.
That's not all PS2 games mind you there were plenty that worked perfectly but it was more on the dev and not the platform

During that era I also played a fairly large amount on online PC games and they were undoubtedly better than both systems. PS2 from functionality and Xbox because it was free

Playing my friends original Xbox it was a really polished experience it felt robust yet simple things just worked there was zero config.

Crows90516d ago (Edited 516d ago )

Yeah but the time ps3 came the experience was the same on both based on what I played...not too much online though to be honest. But I do think that the xbox did help bring online into the console space a lot. As well as PC games to consoles.
