We Won! Mad Max will Feature an Aussie Accent - AusGamers

AusGamers reports that Avalanche Studios has heard the outcry over the American accent for Mad Max after creating their own petition for a change to an Aussie accent for Max and writes:

"Christofer Sundberg of Avalanche Studios Tweeted the news early this morning, pointing out his admiration of the vocal Mad Max fanbase, assuring us that we "have been heard..."

I hope it's not full on Aussie though, Mel Gibson did a perfect job of finding the right balance in the films.

Anyway next thing to do is to get a Mel Gibson DLC skin out of them :D

Mel Gibson used his native Australian accent for the movie. He was born in the US but moved to Australia when he was a baby and grew up with an Aussie accent.

You implied that Mel Gibson was simply acting with a toned down Aussie accent which doesnt make sense unless he wasn't Australian in the first place. Why would someone tone down there Aussie accent when the film takes place in Australia? it sounded like you thought he was American and was simply trying to impersonate an Aussie to the best of his ability and finding a balance between his American accent and an Aussie one.

On the one hand, I'm really happy they're sticking with the legacy of Mad Max. It just feels "right," you know? I'm glad they had the decency to listen to their audience.

On the other hand... it's kind of sad that a developer can't even take liberties with a franchise (in general of course, not just in this specific case). People didn't even give this game a chance past the reveal trailer; the voice acting could have blown away people's initial expectations, but now we'll never know.

It wouldn't have blown anyone away, it would have annoyed every Mad Max fan out there. There is already too much homogenization in games and films, there are too many American accents everywhere. An American accented Mad Max is like a Chinese accented James Bond, absolutely ridiculous.
Thank god they have seen sense. (and this is coming from a 'whinging Pom' btw).

Well, I certainly agree with that. I wasn't propagating the use of "American" accents in the least; I just feel badly for devs who have a specific vision for a game, yet are ceased to cancel it due to outside influence. Most of the time, that negative influence is publisher-based, of course. Perhaps citing this game was a bad example.

I know its too late now, but I think Australian actor Eric Bana should have been cast as Max in the new movie. Strange they would choose british actor Tom Hardy instead. Very excited for the game though.

Im not from Australia, but mad max simply is not mad max without the aussie accent! What on earth were they even thinking! Kinda bummed there will be no Lord Hummongeous too!

Now they just need to work on max and his character. I heard they arent making him the mad loner that he portrayed in the movies.

They shouldve just used the comedy, but classic english dubbed from the original Mad Max film. That wouldve been hot! That thing in there, thats not the goose...no way!
