EA: “Titanfall is the Masterpiece of EA Partners”, “Not a Game that We Could Make Ourselves”

The EA Partners program didn’t receive much spotlight lately, especially on the indie side, but EA Games Label Vice President Patrick Söderlund thinks it’s only temporary and highlights Titanfall as the perfect example of what the project can achieve.

Its the talented devs not the BS partnership !

Abriael3942d ago

Well, I don't think the partnership is "BS", it gives the devs the funds they need and leaves them some more freedom than if they were fully owned.

zerocrossing3942d ago

But look what happened to Dead Space... a partnership with EA is a slow death sentence.

GameSpawn3942d ago

It can be quick too. EA did NOTHING to save 38 studios from the wrath of the Rhode Island government.

Amalur was a f-ing good game. It's a little glitchy because 38 got killed before any real good patches could have been made, but the game is fun as hell, has a decent storyline, and overall fairly well put together. I'm not putting it on as much of a pedestal as Last of Us has been put on recently, but I highly recommend the game to anyone that likes Action RPGs.

I really wish EA (or even better Sony) would have intervened and acquired the studio because a lot of that talent is now lost to the wind. It's kind of sad really.

@GameSpawn

So true. Loved KoA:R and still play it! It was an RPG which had a lore that just needed some clean up and polish, a huge world with badass enemies to battle and Incredible gameplay.

It was by no means perfect but I was damn sure looking forward to a sequel when I finished it. If any studios/Publishers (Looking at you Lionhead! Amalurs gameplay is perfect for Fable) want to jump and copy the gameplay or acquire the IP by all means do so.

@GameSpawn

Plain and simple the game was good but they spent to much money to make it. They did this to themselves no one else.

One of my most expected games from E3.

Megaton3942d ago

What about Fuse? What did EA partnership do for that game, besides the 12 year-old focus group?

Abriael3942d ago

Maybe Fuse just wasn't too good?

zerocrossing3942d ago

Fuse looked really interesting, when they were calling it Overstrike... Sometimes I wish EA would just disappear instead of stomping all of their IPs into mediocrity.

I think EA partnership is simply about funding and publishing a game made by an independent developer. EA gave Insomniac the funds they needed, some exposure and let them develop the game. You can't blame EA for Insomniac's shortcomings.

And, truth be told, it's not the first, and likely not the last Insomniac game to fail to be a huge seller or to receive lukewarm reviews. Fuse was a decent game, and was received as such, and as far as I'm concerned, with the exception of the Ratchet and Clank series, Insomniac hasn't really delivered a great game in years now; the first Resistance was a well conceived by the book FPS, but Resistance 2 and 3 were decent at best, and failed to impress me.

At the end of the day, the EA partners program is simply a way for EA to publish games, some will be good, other won't.

shivvy243942d ago

actually R3 had a great campaign but i know what you mean , after Ratchet ACiT(2009) their games just arent as good as they used to be !

Pascalini3942d ago

Can't wait for titanfall

Looks amazing

Roper3163942d ago

I personally don't buy online only games with no SP campaign. Hope it works out for everyone involved.

Abriael3942d ago

Considering where the industry is going, you may find yourself with few games to buy in the near future. Not that I like it...

STK0263942d ago

I think Titanfall's approach is the best one, considering where the modern FPS games are going anyway. If you look at the 2 biggest franchises at the moment, Call of Duty and Battlefield, both are heavily relying on multiplayer to sell their games. Call of Duty does bundle an action packed but very short single player campaign, while Battlefield usually delivers a very generic and in my opinion boring campaign. And, in both cases, people have been complaining over the internet about these.

If done right, I think Titanfall might be able to deliver a decent story, in multiplayer modes. Only time will tell.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad585d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."
