Sony killed it at E3, but their Vita news was a huge letdown

GameZone writes, 'To Vita owners watching Sony’s press conference at this year’s E3, the brief stage time probably felt like another nail in the coffin. Sony showed a handful of games, games that, aside from the God of War Collection, had already been announced in one way or another. Jack Tretton described the Vita as the ultimate companion device to PS4 with Remote Play, and spoke of a future game library bolstered by indie developers. Then, they moved on to PS3 and PS4.'

I generally play one game on my 3DS, while the Vita has offered me numerous experiences within the realm of my gaming habits.

Currently Muramasa Rebirth is in the card slot and it is beautiful. I could never get into it on the Wii, comfort of the Wii controller perhaps? On the Vita, it's perfect.

I also have nearly 100 titles between physical purchases, digital only purchases, and free PS+ content. Each and everything on there is a blast. I can't say the same for the 3DS which has always been hit or miss for me. Right now it's Animal Crossing...and that's about it.

This is what I mean, Anyone who owns both consoles has a valid opinion. One can speculate about what they don't own but unfortunately that is pointless.

Vita is definitely my go-to handheld, 3DS is great, but it's more of a bitesize experience rather than full blown entertainment. Luigis Mansion kept me occupied for a bit, but that was it. I think if you owned a DS the 3DS just isn't a big enough leap.

Being a vita owner, I am pretty happy about how I've got PS Plus, it's awesome as I've finally picked it up again. But I really want a system seller. A must have game. Games like GTA, God Of War, Devil May Cry, and alot more.

People, cam you name any AAA game coming out for the Vita other that Tearaway and Killzone?

...see, the problem arises with the vernacular of your question. Are you asking based on the caliber of what a AAA should possess, or on its budget. If it's the former, that's incredibly subjective.

For example, I loved the hell out of "Stick it to the Man" at E3. I certainly think that's a AAA offering. Batman Blackgate is up there too, as is Dragon's Crown, 1001 Spikes, and easily a dozen other experiences I enjoyed like Hohokum, Walking Dead Season One (I'll be playing it again with that bonus episode), and Flower.

As a Sony fan, I admit they let me down with the Vita news. *BUT* Gamescom is coming up, and I remember reading something about Sony saying that Gamescom will be a Vita show. So I'm really looking forward to it.

That is correct and I was about to write the same thing. Sony has been very clever how they takled 2013 if this is true.

Pre PS4 show to get news rising before E3. The best show at E3 (personally). Vita on Gamescom. A few exclusives at TGS who we all have been waiting for.

If they announce a port of Kingdom Hearts HD remix 1.5 for vita-that's it I'm happy- they announce a new assassins creed, im happier, they announce a new title from sony bend-i'll die of happiness there and then. That's all I need for vita-Rayman legends at the end of august :D I can't wait :)

Yeah vita news was bad! I love my vita ever since ps plus included vita games... I actually use it now lol and psyched to see how the ps4 and vita link up is like!

As a vita owner I though e3 was fine.

I didnt buy a vita just to use remote play. Its really only getting three big releases this year, tearaway, soul sacrifice, and killzone. Needs more big releases, not just indie games. Really looking forward to killzone mercenary tho, loved the gameplay shown at e3.

Right I'll be honest with how amazing the PS4 looks....I couldn't give a crap about the PSV. I hope we'll get more PS4 news at Gamescom. I'm not trying to say I don't care about it as in "I hope it fails", obviously I would like to see it do well but it had plenty of time to shine...now the PS4 has been announced and is coming I want to see more announcements for that instead

See that dosent make sense to have a Vita to play PS4 games. Ur reason for having a Vita should be for playing VITA games. remote play is a kool feature but imo is not a reason to own a Vita.

Wii U sold 3.6m in 7 month. Vita is still between 4.5m - 5m after a year and half has no million seller game while Wii U has two NSMBU and Nintendo Land

Granted, there are a few ports in there, but to neglect the facts altogether in an attempt to make a point simply makes you look ignorant.

Now if we're talking on the merits of subjectivity, well, I can't argue what YOU like. That said, I played almost all of these at the show, and each of them are games I'd consider owning if I didn't already have quite a few of them already pre-ordered.

Didn't know about that. I hope they remove it before next year. My wife and I use different accounts but want to share a Vita memory card. Seems a bit silly making us buy a new card just for the second account.

That's strange that they'd lock it. They'll have to open the Vita up to other accounts when the PS4 comes out, because they've already confirmed that PS+ will apply to every account on the PS4. Makes no sense to open everything up on the PS4 then lock accounts on the Vita.

...there is one BIG fact about all SONY systems ...if Japan developpers will not support them they will struggle hard against competition or they will fail..Sony must rely heavily on her country of origin ..nad not make the same mistakes as PS3 (lot of japanese made games went multi)

The Vita really is a lovely handheld. I don't like how it kind of buys into the whole smartphone vibe though. I know it's not a phone, but the whole interface and vibe of the thing looks and feels like some kind of smartphone. Still, it's a great little thing and it's got so much potential. I hope it gets more support.

I finally got a Vita right before e3 with a 32 gig memory card, Assassins Creed, plus a $50 gift card with my purchase so it wasn't that bad of a deal. I also picked up Persona, Soul Sacrifice, Metal Gear, Need for Speed, and recently picked up Muramasa Rebirth; along with every title available on PS Plus.

I was a little disappointed with their Vita presentation but am hopeful that I'll get plenty of first and third-party support in the near future. At first I was skeptical on picking one up but I must say that I'm happy with my purchase.

I also have a 3DS XL and just picked up Project X Zone, which is a really good jrpg, and am extremely happy with it. The 3DS had a rough start but it has phenomenal games with mediocre features; the Vita on the other hand has phenomenal features with okay games but I really think that the Vita will get their set of must have titles in time.

A lot of people rave about AC and Uncharted but the game that stands out on the Vita is Need for Speed! I'm truly impressed at the fact that Criterion was about to bring such a great game on a portable system with little compromise on the gameplay, the graphics on the other hand though good, are nowhere near as stunning as the superior Wii U version. But that doesn't matter because Need for Speed is the first true portable console racer on a handheld system that is actually a great game and I recommend it to everyone.

I have owned a 3DS

I own a Vita, I traded in the 3DS because it was simply collecting dust. You speak of great games for it...but all I hear are childs games. Mario, Luigi, Zelda...all games that lack impact. They are...cute fun, they might amuse me for a few minutes. That's it

I got Soul Sacrifice, Gravity Rush, Uncharted and Persona 4 Golden on this thing. Now those...those are games. Rich fulfilling games with satisfying gameplay. Real core games. That's what I want, that's why the Vita wins in my book. The 3DS just doesn't deliver the kind of games I want. It's all childish it seems. Save for Fire Emblem, which was great.

Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend with exclusive Vita Content.

Tekken....mehhhh I only play SF characters on SFXT

Project X Zone...also mehhhhh...the game looks...dated and the combat...well not too good. Also it doesn't help that I don't recognize quite a few characters on there. The only thing you got for me is Shin Megami Tensei.

****Also nothing wrong with good ports, 3DS owners constantly throw Tales of the Abyss and Super Street Figher IV at me and I don't knock them for it. It's all about what you can play on the go. Compare games like Gravity Rush and Soul Sacrifice and look at gameplay from the upcoming Killzone Mercenaries...these games blow the 3DS out of the damn water. Any day...

I'm really failing to see how Sony killed it at E3

They announced that their system will do all the things the Wii U does. Play used games & no DRM.

They now force you to purchase PlayStation Plus for online multiplayer.

They talked about TV and movies. Showed off a long demo of Destiny....a multiplat game. The two best games at Sony's conference were Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 15....both multiplats.

The Order 1886 showed us nothing. No gameplay details....

Sony didn't kill anything at E3. Microsoft had such bad PR it looked like Sony did so well. But in actuality, Sony's E3 was mediocre.

Had one since launch and I do love it.

It definitely needs more love from developers though.

It needs an NHL game, a Demons Souls game, a new Castlevania just for Vita, a Rockstar game, a version of MDK for someone to buy the rights to and make, an infamous game etc....

It needs heavy hitters. Look what Edge did with Golden Abyss! The little thing is a beast of a machine.

It does in fact need more games though.
