Xbox One Versus PS4 – Don’t Crown the PS4 Yet

Mike Martin from VGRevolution writes:

"Sony could've held a five minute press conference at E3 last week and walked away the fan favorite. They've certainly taken the opening round in what is sure to be entertaining fight between the PS4 and Xbox One that will go the distance. Don't crown the PS4 champions yet. Microsoft still has a lot of fight left in them and they are determined to ensure the Xbox One is a success."

Ps4.. games I want.. price I want.. and im pc god race but im gonna crown ps4 as the pope, s gaming platform.

SeanScythe3955d ago

I've got my Gaming PC but I am first a Console Gamer. PS4 is the right price, the best looking games, best Devs, best indie game support, Best Online service, best looking design, best components. Now this is strictly consoles I'm talking about, so don't say the pc is better because that's debatable. I can buy a new pc today that is less powerful than a PS4 or one that is way more powerful.

Skips3954d ago (Edited 3954d ago )

Exactly, why would I want a console with less exclusives 20 >>>>> 15. (Seriously, how long do people actually believe the support for games, OTHER than Halo, Forza, and Kinect shovelare from MS will last?) lol

Given Sony's studios track record, I'm almost certain many of those games will be amazing.

I think studios WITH AN ACTUAL TRACK record are a lot more exciting than no name/mediocre devs IMO.

Not to mention a console that's LESS powerful. lol. (Again, sorry people, I don't buy in to that "Powah of the CLOOUD!" garbage that's already been denounced by Eurogamer)...

20 >>>>> 15
Sony studios >>>>> MS studios
PS+ >>>>> XBL Gold

Long term support >>>>> Short term support
More power >>>>> Less power
Eurogamer >>>>> In denial fanboys

ThanatosDMC3954d ago (Edited 3954d ago )

What i do not understand is why people do not learn from console history. PS2 vs Xbox and PS3 vs 360 games. What exclusive game does 360 have that can even come close to TLOU?

It's surprising that some people defend a hardcore console that sold out for the casual crowd.

^Exactly, long term support vs short term support.

SeanScythe3951d ago

I'm getting the PS4 for one main reason, Naughty Dog! If there is a sequel to the Last of Us it's going to be on PS4 and that's more than enough of a reason to get one.

For me personally, its too late. I could care less at this point. PS4 DAY ONE!

Timesplitter143954d ago (Edited 3954d ago )

I honestly hope the PS4/X1 sales are about 50:50 and all the games I personally care about turn out to come out on PS4 or PC. This would be the ideal scenario because both companies would make a lot of effort to innovate and come out on top.

Take the fact that we'll have no forced DRM next gen for example. This happened because of competition. Sony saw that MS was at a disadvantage with the DRM and so they decided to go with NoDRM, with huge success. MS then reacted by cancelling their DRM policies because otherwise they'd just be defeated quickly.

If only one company was in the console race, you can be almost certain we would have forced DRM this gen, whether it's Sony or MS.

Minato-Namikaze3954d ago

Sony never had DRM in the cards. Its was always gonna be the same system that was in place with the PS3, hence never even considering an online check in.

Akuma2K3954d ago

"I honestly hope the PS4/X1 sales are about 50:50"

That's not gonna happen, judging by the PS4 preorder numbers it looks like the ratio will be 90/10 or 80/20 in the PS4's favor....but those numbers will change because its still early with 4 to 5 months to go to the potential launch window.

UNGR3954d ago (Edited 3954d ago )

The next generation hasn't started and we have a solid 10 years before it ends, and we're already crowing winners? Anybody who crowned a winner is stupid. It's just proof in the pot that fanboys will never learn.

Godlovesgamers3954d ago

10 years, really? Did the heads of both Microsoft and Sony call you and tell you that!?!

Urusernamesucks3954d ago

Actually its bound to Last longer than That, both Consoles are 10x stronger than their predecessors

PS4 & PC is the best choice

SweatyFlorida3954d ago

PS4+PC+3DSXL suffices better for me ;)

kupomogli3954d ago

@SweatyFlorida

No Vita and Wii U?

I'll have everything but the Xbox One. PS4 is going to be my multiconsole system and Xbox One currently doesn't have an exclusive I'm interested in other than Killer Instinct. That can change in the next few years, but until it does, no Xbox One for me.

Foxgod3954d ago (Edited 3954d ago )

Nothing wrong with having a preference.
In my opinion Xb1, pc and wii is the best choice.

Clover904
I have a ps3, bought it for Metal gear solid 4. And finished both uncharted 2 and KIllzone 2,
They where ok, but didnt like their gameplay style so much.
Sony will have to come with something else to make me buy a Ps4.

Clover9043954d ago

But what about all the great exclusives Xbox gamers missed out on this generation? The Last of Us is amazing, and I can't wait to play TLoU2 only on the PS4.

Utalkin2me3954d ago (Edited 3954d ago )

Funny you say Uncharted was OK, it won game of the year. And MGS4 just ok? So obviously you have a complete different taste then most people. Or you are trying to hard to troll.

YNWA963954d ago

If thats your cup of tea thats fine. Last of us was a good game, but it was no Skyrim. I enjoy the odd PS3 game, but 360 was always the preferential platform. Will be the same for me next gen.

FrightfulActions3954d ago

If you have a gaming PC then you don't even need Xbox since its 'exclusives' are typically on the PC aswell. On the other hand if you don't have PS4 you're missing out on a lot of true exclusives.

Pope_Kaz_Hirai_II3954d ago

Nothing wrong with having a preference.

yea foxgod... whatever u say... and you would get the wii over ps4? yea of course you would lol

SonyPS43954d ago (Edited 3954d ago )

"Funny you say Uncharted was OK, it won game of the year."

Funny how I don't like Justin Bieber music, yet it won more grammy awards than every band/artist I like combined.

It's his opinion, and it's just a video game. Big deal.

Can't wait Xbox one day one sweetness

GoodnessGreatness3954d ago

Pretty sure it's going to be day one remorse.

kupomogli3954d ago

There are always multiconsole titles. Watch Dogs and the Division look good.

FITgamer3954d ago

Probably not day ONE, but a year or two down the road when the system craps out. Better buy that extended warranty.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers3h ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Xbox Is Not Your Friend

After laying off almost 2,000 people, Xbox finds itself in a position at odds with the community-first image it has cultivated for itself.

lol I’m not a big MS gamer but Sony and a number of others have laid off ton of people as well. Where are the ridiculous articles about them not being your friend? Gaming news is such a joke and these sites wonder why they have to beg for money/patreons or flood with 5x more ads.

Profchaos2h ago

I think the sentiment is corporations are there to make money they are not out friends that are harsh and cutthroat when lt comes to the bottom line so why do we proclaim our love for any gaming company from the rooftops when they wouldn't care about us unless we are buying the next thing.

We need to beore objective with how we view these "teams"

Gridknac1h ago

This is the absolute truth. The only part of you these companies, ALL companies, want to be friends with is your bank account. They don't care what they have to say, who's job they have to cut, or what shady underhandedness they must engage in. Bottom line is all that matters.

Vits48m ago

Because people unfortunately make these companies and products part of their own persona, so when they are scrutinized, they see it as an attack on themselves. There is some neuropsychological research around this phenomenon, but it basically has the same effect as religion. It helps foster a sense of community that humans need to feel comfortable. So that is not happening unless we have a sudden surge of people actually understanding how they work and taking control of themselves.

Magatsuhi43m ago

While it's true Sony isn't a friend either, let's not pretend that they're even in the same ballpark as MS's anti consumer practices. Sony is not a friend but atleast they're not an enemy like MS.

derek1h ago

@twopickles, were you not paying attention? Sony was heavily criticized when they laid off people weeks ago, more than Microsoft did with their massive abk layoffs.

Gamingsince19811h ago

I want to know who thought Xbox was community first anyway lmfao

ChasterMies20m ago

That’s Whataboutism. Sony and other game companies didn’t pay more than $80B to buy up publishers. Microsoft said in court that it wasn’t going to have redundancies and fire people. Microsoft told Xbox owners that they would have a AAA on GamePass each quarter. But here we are with Microsoft Game Studios shrinking. Consolidation doesn’t benefit the consumer, and no company has consolidated more than Microsoft.

BehindTheRows16m ago(Edited 15m ago)

Exactly. They love their SonyToo instead of looking at everything in its totality. You spend $80B to buy up so many pubs/devs, you damn well should have something to show for it.

That said, this article is old and someone is clearly looking for clicks!

ok here is a reality check. Tech companies have been firing thousands of employees the last couple of years.

I find it odd that the percentage of employees sacked from MS

QUOTE
"Microsoft announced approximately 1,900 job cuts across its gaming division, including Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax, and Xbox. 8.6% of its colossal 22,000-strong global workforce. "

is worth writing an article condemning the company, when Sony Interactive fired 8% of its workforce (900 people approximately).

https://news.crunchbase.com...

Is the writer concerned about the percentage of the workforce fired or the number of employees?

Lets not forget that Unity laid off 25 percent of its workforce (1800 people) and Discord laid off 17 percent of its employees.

You also have to take into account the AI issue reported in the article. MS is heavily invested in A.I. They have invested in Open A.I (chatgpt 4+Dalle 3), in Abu Dhabi’s G42 and in French AI company Mistral.

These LLMs have already replaced thousands of jobs as A.I usage becomes more common

https://www.cbsnews.com/new...
https://www.theverge.com/20...
https://tech.co/news/compan...

This is the new reality. Even nvidia CEO said that games will fully A.I generated.

https://www.pcgamer.com/sof...

Nevertheless, no company should be ever viewed as "your friend". MS had numerous anti consumer practices in place and the same is true for Sony (not only in video game space) and Nintendo (60$ dollar games without permanent discounts, remasters of 10 year old game with full price, no console price cuts, expensive joy cons which are prone to drift, to name but a few).

Popsicle1h ago

Must be. Thought it to be common knowledge that no corporation is your friend.

rippermcrip1h ago

Xbox had a community-first image? Since when?

shaenoide1h ago

Any given company is not "friendly"...

Microsoft Seemingly Closes Bethesda France

As part of its plans to cut 1,900 jobs, Microsoft has reportedly shut down operations at Bethesda France, letting go roughly 15 people

Microsoft should have left them stay 3rd party

GamerRN12h ago

If they are let go, they can be whatever they want. They ARE 3rd party now... 🤦

Barlos9h ago

Yeah, they're also jobless.

GamerRN2h ago

They can form a company if they want, they are just as jobless as if "Microsoft had left them as 3rd party".

peppeaccardo4h ago

"MIcrosoft leaves Bethesda do what they know how to do best" ... close! Oh the irony ....
(Citation from a week old article)

ChasterMies25m ago

I think Microsoft and other game publishers are letting people go because they think ai will replace them. Doesn’t matter how much profit they make. They were always going to be let go.

PassNextquestion14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Bethesda France was made up of roughly 15 people... they couldn't of being doing much

Bethesda France mainly did publishing and marketing within the region

blacktiger12h ago

that's a shame for you to say that, i'm sure Elite loves hearing what you just said.

Profchaos14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Bethesda France focused on publishing and marketing in the region. And 15 people lost their jobs as part of the closure.

I wonder if this is part of Microsoft's strategy to abandoned physical media or possibly gamepass advertising makes their roles redundant you don't need to market a game as hard when the majority of players get the game as part of a sub which already promoted upcoming games

Tacoboto13h ago

It's France too, there's a high likelihood only 1-2 people on the team even had an Xbox.

Profchaos13h ago

Possibly guven all the leaks we know the Xbox brand is really struggling in the region.

Yi-Long10h ago

Well, if your consoles and games are barely found in any stores any more, of course you're gonna struggle finding consumers ...

XiNatsuDragnel13h ago

Tbh Microsoft I think Bethesda being 3rd party same with Activision would probably more competitive than thus scenario imo

Profchaos11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

I think it would have been better for all parties really especially gamers

TheColbertinator12h ago

The recently purchased Activision French offices might take over all the licensing and marketing for Microsoft in France from now on.
