GR-UK writes:We caught up with Simon Mackenzie, writer on the Flashback remake project, during E3 to discuss how he and the team approached developing the game.
"I love Flashback. I gush about it." He enthused. "It was that game, for me, that got me into gaming. It was such an important thing to do and make right...I talked to Paul Cuisset, the original producer, and producer of the new version, and we talked about his influences, what made him make [it] in the first place. We did modernise it for a modern audience, but we also looked back at those great movies that inspired it - from Blade Runner, Total Recall - all those elements. If you're a fan of the genre, we put in some neat little easter eggs in there for you."
GOG is giving away Flashback as part of their Summer Sale. All you have to do to add Flashback to your collection is go to the GOG website or the game’s page.
Andrew M writes: "Almost three decades after the release of the original, Microids has announced that Flashback 2 will launch for console and PC in 2022."
I have zero faith in the execution after how bad that remake was.
Doesnt need a sequel.
An award-winning action-adventure game, developed by Paul Cuisset in 1992, Flashback holds a Guinness record and is one of the first games to use rotoscope technology for realistic animations. In it, you travel the universe in the year 2142 with amnesia stricken protagonist Conrad while he dives headlong into an insidious alien plot. This game will no doubt prove a time capsule of memories for some and nothing can ruin that. However, for those of you who have never played the original, Flashback Mobile offers a somewhat different experience.
This game was cutting edge on debut. I want to think I may have had this on 3DO, can’t remember. Maybe SegaCD.
Well they got it instantly wrong out the gate. A game that looked incredible on the Mega Drive and pushed boundaries at the time with its unique use of technologies and what do they do? Release it on the most generic, over used engine of the generation making it look like so many other games out there. What a complete and utter waste.
i have to say the animation in that demo looked a bit ropey, even compared to the original flashback. also i hope they release it on ps vita.
it lacks the rotoscoped charm of the original. currently playing it on my amiga
