Hey, Ellen Page has a point; Naughty Dog did do a bad thing

Seriously, guys, this is serious.

Ellen Page‘s face is her livelihood, and you cannot simply deny someone their livelihood. How dare Naughty Dog basically steal her face for their super excellent video game?

ND created an incredible game that pushes the boundaries and definition of what makes a video game. I don't think any intelligent person could play TLOU without coming away with admiration for ND. A truly remarkable experience and a game that fully deserves to be called a masterpiece. They may be able to better this game technically, but they'll only be able to equal it in terms of character development, story telling and emotional impact. This game will be discussed for many many years.

What does your comment have to do with the article?

lnvisibleMan3957d ago

If people actually read the article they would realise its a humour piece. Instead of just reading the title and getting carried away with their emotions.

Mr_Nuts3957d ago

Really Mika, you of ALL PEOPLE are saying that to someone

What a hypocrite, 99% of comments are either trolling, off topic or immature.

xHeavYx3957d ago

This guy has a n obvious point, it's hard to find someone who doesn't look like someone else. There are even articles showing similarities between video game characters from different franchises.

GribbleGrunger3957d ago (Edited 3957d ago )

Clearly I'll have to explain: This is a masterpiece and the conversation should be about how it could potentially change this industry for the better. This is like wanting to discuss that Orson Wells in Citizen Kane looks like Father Christmas without a beard. This game deserves minute and detailed analysis from all media outlets. These pointless articles can be saved til the big boys have mulled it over, and shouldn't be encouraged by engagement to derail that process.

YNWA963957d ago

Read article? No way ms sucks.... Sony rules... Ohh. Ms is king... Sony shlt.... Ohhhh i am confused... Help me guys...

NumOnePS3FanBoy3957d ago

I can agree with her statement, sorta, when Naughty Dog first released the look of the characters. Ellie did look A LOT like Ellen Paige, so much that they noticed the interwebz reaction to it and decided to change her look into what is in the game now. This ellie, to me, no longer resembles page as much because that first one is very obvious

NatureOfLogic3957d ago

Lmao at the picture comparisons.

showtimefolks3957d ago

Mike

Something Wong with you? You just can't take any positive news about playstation brand without saying something negative?

I have been on N4G for a while and you are one negative puppy, get outside smile a little het some fresh air man

When LOU was initially announced at that time Ellie did look like Ellen page but now she doesn't, playing the game not once did I think it was Ellen page. In a slow news day people will make that into a issue for no reason

Ashley Johnson did an amazing Jon with last of us so let's give her credit

And once beyond 2 souls comes out we will talk about Ellen page

It's a non story just move on.

Also don't let this overshadow the fact ND created a masterpiece and moved story telling forward in games

kenshiro1003957d ago

You must have been praying for this to be a negative article piece so you can bash Naughty Dog.

morganfell3957d ago (Edited 3957d ago )

"If people actually read the article they would realise its a humour piece. Instead of just reading the title and getting carried away with their emotions."

If people would just excuse another no name site that uses flamebait titles it would all be okay.

ThanatosDMC3957d ago

People actually read the articles??? I'm just here for the comments.

JD_Shadow3956d ago (Edited 3956d ago )

If people would stop taking every single little thing so seriously, it would all be okay.

Unfortunately, that's sometimes too much for some people on this site to be able to do.

bligmerk3956d ago

Was it coincidence Ellen Page appeared in Beyond and TLOU at almost the same time? When the first alpha screens were being shown, she really looked like Ellen Page. That was quite awhile ago, and not long after, new screenshots showing a much younger and slightly different looking. Also, she has that scar on her right eyebrow, so that makes her look totally different. Beautiful game. At first, you go WTF with the game mechanics, then it really grows on you and the scarcity of ammo with all the empty drawers is pretty funny, exasperating at first but a nice touch to making a challenging and fun game.

Consoldtobots3956d ago

Id hit it, Ellen is really cute.....

While I do agree this game a masterpiece without a doubt, but I can see why some people may not enjoy the gameplay. It's very stealth focus (Which I love BTW), in which case makes sense as it's all about surviving and fighting for your life. While Stealth is not forced on an easier difficulty, there are a few parts in the game where it's forced and can turn some people away. If you don't mind stealth action, there's no reason why you won't enjoy this game. It's f'n brilliant.

ALLWRONG3957d ago

First comment reads like an ad.

pompombrum3957d ago

If someone wrote that about your favourite game, would you still think it's an ad? While I can see where you're coming from but TLOU is really THAT good.

ALLWRONG3956d ago

I didn't say the game wasn't good. Just said the first comment reads like an ad, and it does. N4G used to remove comments like that when it was a good gaming site.

It's not exactly flamebait when anybody paying attention could have spotted the sarcasm under the header. People need to stop being so uppity about their omgserious consoles / favourite games, it's embarrassing.

Totally inane nonsense! How well they crafted a game and your admiration has no bearing on the underhanded measures employed.... Stop being such a fanboy... ND this And ND that, you ride ND so hard I would've thought they cured cancer!

RedHawkX3956d ago

naughty dog did a good thing but i will do some bad things to ellen paige and im talking inception. im going super deep!

thezeldadoth3956d ago

so now if you don't like a video game you aren't intelligent? There goes the definition of opinion. fanboys are like religious fanatics with rabies

Bobby Kotex3956d ago

Congrats to the gaming community for giving the attention whore what she wanted.

Doctor_Freeman3956d ago

I'd be mad also if I were Ellen, the first incarnation of Ellie looked exactly like her (even the current Ellie still looks like her) even the two names sound/look similar.

ohcatrina3956d ago

I SENSE SOME SARCASM IN THIS COMMENT.

The pictures in this made me laugh extremely loudly. Kudos to you, sir.

GribbleGrunger3957d ago (Edited 3957d ago )

Give it a year and I'll laugh along with everyone else, but right now I have far too much admiration for Naughty Dogs work here to do that. I, like many others, just want to savour this pivotal moment in video game history, without distraction, especially such a puerile, adolescent distraction.

GamingAngelGabriel3957d ago

I actually have no problem with Ellie's design in TLOU. I was referring to the AC picture.

Sidology3957d ago

Man your fanboy-isn for ND is disgusting. And this is coming from someone who also is a fan of them. Hell TLOS is not as good as everyone says it is. The character development is amazing and some of th best I have ever seen, but the actual story is cliche and as common as a white rarity weapon in an rpg.

I didnt click the link, i already saw it was a humor /s.
Ellen page is cute, and rich. Shes Not mad. Come on..

dendenmooshi3957d ago

She's smart, too.

They make a striking resemblance and play very similar roles, but it's not like she's suing ND or anything.

The situation is blown out of proportion. She literally spoke one sentence of it.

ThyPizzaGod3957d ago

Any new topic to get clicks

Eamon3957d ago (Edited 3957d ago )

Why do people give a crap whether ND stole her likeness or not. I honestly couldn't care less.

It's just a videogame.

-EvoAnubis-3957d ago

Read the article. Trust me; it's not serious.

Eamon3957d ago

No I have. I was speaking in general.

The article itself made me chuckle.

rdgneoz33957d ago

Yah, the article reminds me of all the celeb and video game character look-a-like articles.
http://gamingbolt.com/25-ce... for example.

But overall, you figure with how many billions of people in the world, there's bound to be someone who bares a resemblance to various video game characters.

theWB273957d ago (Edited 3957d ago )

Quite simply if you made your living on YOUR appearance and got paid according to that...you wouldn't appreciate if a game stole that likeness and didn't compensate you since they are making money, partly, off of your appearance.

The gaming community cant really be this close minded and intentionally ignorant of what this means. College players are suing EA for this very same thing, and are pretty close to winning and being compensated. Videogames are just as liable, they aren't cut off from copyright laws.

I get the article is joking...but it's a retort to Eamon.

rdgneoz33956d ago (Edited 3956d ago )

Except in this case the character looks similar to the actor, while in the EA/college players case it is meant to be that person. EA is getting sued because they gave pretty much every player the same stats/background/look(somewhat ) of their real life counterparts and thought it was OK as long as they didn't use the players name.

In this case I don't think Ellen Page was born in 2019 in Boston... With how many people there are in the world, you're bound to find people that look a like.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

CrimsonWing6956m ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker43m ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo33m ago(Edited 31m ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6923m ago(Edited 22m ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos6h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto5h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger885h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
