The Last of Us' Ellie vs. BioShock's Elizabeth

IGN - Our panel of experts debate which companion is the favorite. Who's yours?

Bimkoblerutso3956d ago

Yeah, I agree. Though only because they kind of went a different direction with Elizabeth. She was less a character and more a plot point by the end of the game.

Ellie was just a great, great character, regardless of gender or age.

JC_Denton3956d ago

Not only was all of Elizabeth's character development thrown out the window in the last 15 minutes of the game, but she was also completely unbelievable and, to a certain extent, ridiculous throughout the early-midgame ("It'll be a revolution, just like in "Les Misérables"!)

dedicatedtogamers3956d ago

Ellie, by far. Elizabeth was "kawaiiii waifu" and a pretty shallow character with no growth, not to mention an inconsistent personality.

Elizabeth. Ellie was annoying the entire game and had some of the dumbest AI ever (like just walking right up to an enemy and then running back to cover).

Mr_Nuts3956d ago

Are we supposed to believe that you actually bought The Last of Us. You don't even like NaughtyDog and have been calling this for months so you know

project_pat363956d ago

No, he watched the game trailer a few weeks ago and that's his story and hes stickin to it

My_Name_BTW_Is_Dante3956d ago

I like Naughty Dog. The old Crash Bandicoot games were fun and I liked the Uncharted games. Last of Us was just clunky, overrated, & mediocre.

BlackTar1873956d ago

last of us was not clunky overrated or anything.

I think you are full of it tbh.

Valkyre3956d ago

your attempt to troll fails so horribly...

but i guess you cant expect anything more from a dude who has emo dante giving the finger as his avatar...

you are such a badass!! /s

JC_Denton3956d ago (Edited 3956d ago )

At least Ellie actually had AI (pretty damn fine AI at that). Elizabeth did absolutely nothing throughout the entire game and was completely ignored by enemies. Calling her annoying is an opinion I can't argue with, as everyone doesn't like everyone, and there's nothing we can do about it.

Ellie.

She's more helpfull aswell, gives ammo, medpacks, throw bricks at enemies and knife them if they grab you. She shoots at them later in the game aswell.

Bioshock infinite wasn't that good, boring an repetetive gameplay. Story was meh, it just had a well made twist ending that made people think the story is much better than it actually is.

BlackTar1873956d ago

Last of us was better but Bio was a great game. Not giving it enough credit kinda is hurting your point.

Hydralysk3956d ago (Edited 3956d ago )

Eh, I don't think anything he said is wrong, it's just a very vague and unsubstantiated statement.

For me the gunplay was a slog, and unfortunately they'd turned the entire gameplay into an FPS. I wasn't even a huge fan of Bioshock but that at least had hacking (not a hacking plasmid that wears off), a half dozen weapons you could carry, different ammo types, weapon upgrades that weren't just '+25% to weapon attribute' and a bigger emphasis on exploration.

I also think the main plot was nowhere near as strong as people made it out to be. I won't go into spoilers, but for me the twist didn't hold up to scrutiny, and the game was more interested in using it's 'controversial themes' as a motif rather than actually discussing them.

What I loved about Infinte, and what I think carries the game, is the Booker/Elizabeth relationship. We see Elizabeth's worldview and moral code change as the game progresses, we see mutual distrust evolve into camaraderie, and by the end we can totally believe that the bond between these two is genuine.

Infinite had some great characters, and Irrational definitely deserves props for what they did with them, but that alone wasn't enough to make me love the game the way nearly everyone else seemed to.

xBigxBossx3956d ago

Ellie. I liked her more because of the way they brought her to life. I truly felt like i was protecting Ellie. I felt like I was just escorting Elizabeth. I love both games, but The Last of Us hit this Big Daddy (see what I did there) in the feelings. Both amazing games in their own merits

The Last Of Us Series Has Remarkable Potential For Spin-Offs

Najam from eXputer writes "It's time fore a new installment in the series, not another pointless remaster."

anast81d ago

They are working on something new. Not to be rude but it is impossibility stupid to think ND next major announcement is going to be a remaster or their next Last of Us entry is going to be another remaster.

AlterRecs78d ago

I think this is in response to them releasing a remaster for the sequel, a game that didn't need a remaster.

Basically a "why did you put out a remaster no one asked for when you have all there options available"

anast78d ago

They remaster is to put out something quick while they are deving new stuff. I don't get how people can be so static.

AlterRecs77d ago

There's no news about a third game being in production, you're just assuming that they're working on something that they aren't

anast77d ago

When they release the news to start the hype-train, you can give me my props then.

DrDoomer81d ago

I want an alternate timeline spin-off, where part 2 never happened.

CrimsonWing6981d ago

They’ve already done Remasters of 1 and 2… what else is there to Remaster?

AlterRecs78d ago

Considering they remastered the first game twice, who knows lol

CrimsonWing6978d ago

That was a Remake. I guess they could do that to 2, but man…. They should wait a couple generations so it can look like a major upgrade.

The Last Of Us Online Devs Celebrate Their Experience With The Canceled Game

The team is sad for losing out on such a great project but celebrates its growth because of spending time on it.

Chocoburger125d ago

All they had to do was make a basic online mode like their previous games. Instead they wanted more money and choose to go live service which makes games worse in my opinion.

What a waste of time and money, what a shame.

seanpitt2381d ago

I can't wait for season 2 so they can kill Joel off in the first 2 episodes!! Then it will be just Abby and Ellies revenge plot!

Something is telling me that this won't happen though because it wouldn't make sense, oh wait

Linzoid125d ago

Not sure why they didn’t just make Factions 2. There was no need to make it a live service.

TLoU Factions was a great addition such a shame they couldn’t be bothered to remaster that for PS5 considering the crazy high price tag of the remaster of a remaster…

anast125d ago

This is something to be celebrated. This studio is smart and they get it, even factions 2 wouldn't've have been worth the time. I am surprised they didn't just remaster the first one though, but actually how popular was Factions?
