Battlefield 4 dev DICE on the importance of 60fps

Buy the next-generation version of Battlefield 4 and you'll get the "full Battlefield experience", developer DICE has told Eurogamer.

The Swedish developer has used the PC version of the game, which as Battlefield 3 players know features huge 64-player battles and, if your computer is up to it, 60 frames per second visuals, as the target for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Battlefield 4, due out later this year.

Battlefield 4 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One includes 64-player battles and 60fps visuals, unlike the console versions of Battlefield 3 and the current-gen versions of Battlefield 4.

To be honest, similar things were said when BF3 was about to be released that it's going to give CoD a run for its money. That didn't happen. Nothing can kill CoD but CoD alone and it seems CoD is killing itself. Rock Band didn't kill GH, GH dug up the grave they're lying peacefully in.

Exactly...I just started playing BF 3 for the first time this week ( my first BF ever) and I'm loving it.

Compared to COD, it's a breathe of fresh air...it really is..

So many more strategic options in Battlefield.

I'm going to be playing BF4 next gen and not COD ghosts. I've owned every COD and still like the series, but with every release my total time played goes down.

4 days.....2days....1 day 5 hrs.....16 hrs... stuff like that.

It doesn't have that magic appeal it had with COD 2,3, WaW & MW1&2...

If Killzone, a first party game, can't even do 60fps, there is no way Battlefield with 64 players online can run 1080p @ 60fps on any of the two consoles. That is just fanboy talk.

1080p/60fps isn't difficult if you lack AA, turn down the LOD, bring down shader quality to a minimum or close to it. Popping up to 1080p doesn't mean you need everything on ultra with 16x MSAA.

1080p and nothing cranked up to ultra, it's not all that difficult.

I would love to see the PS4 version run at 1080P but i have a feeling that they will be both 720P with a more stable framerate on the PS4 version.

BTW 1080P 60FPS is possible on both next gen consoles but that depends on the amount of detail that developers want to include in their games.

Edit: Forza 5 (XBOX One) and Warframe (PS4) are examples of games that run at 1080P 60FPS on both consoles.

It's possible to have 1080 at 60fps but if they'll do it, that'll be interesting.

But to honest this game seems too generic. Now its just getting a little spotlighted because its XONE exclusive. The game is just going to be like section 8 or any other shooter that was hyped.

I've played both 60fps shooters (on PC) and 30fps on 360 and to be really honest, the difference isn't that big. It really is just PC fanboy talk or COD fanboy talk.

Maybe I am one of those fortunate people who isn't sensitive to 30fps, but when I play both the difference isn't big at all.

Is there a difference? Yes, but its minimal, especially when you are focused on the game.

I can get headshots just as easy on 30fps then I can on 60fps.

So all that should tell you, that it really is not that big of a deal

That being said, dedicated servers make a much bigger difference in my opinion.

Way too choppy. It feels like a strobe light slow motion crap.

BF3 on PC at ultra settings at 1080p/60 was amazing.

PS4 version should be really good.

I can't wait for 120FPS to be standard (many years from now), and yes my eyes can easily see that and far more.

it's probably the opposite.

You might not be able to see 60fps. Everyone is different.

In fact it took a few weeks before my eyes adjusted from 60fps to 120fps. Now it's a night and day difference.

it should be the standard, but not when we get games like Crysis. Look at some benchmarks of those games, they run poorly even on high end stuff and it's pretty rediculous we still get games that struggle to hold 30-40fps at best at 1080p.

The only thing bf is got going foe it is its better graphics. From the looks of the e3 trailer its pretty much copying call of duty with the carriers sinking and all hell breaking loose. I got zero interest in bf. It just looks like something ive played a few times before and something that cod has already done. Yawn. Ill take cod and so will many over bf. Just look at this gen. Even with its newer engine bf couldnt hold candle to cod. Its just not the better game.

That trailer was single player. These games are all about the multiplayer and its there that BF beats the shit out of CoD. BF multiplayer is superior in every way.

I really don't get people that say rubbish like it's hard to tell the difference between 30 and 60fps, or our eyes can only see 30 most. Play a PC game and use the console to lock the frame rate to 30 and try looking around with the mouse in CSS for example, then lock the frame rate to 60 and do the same. Big difference.

There's also a difference from 60-120, less pronounced from 30-60 but a bit smoother nonetheless. 1080p is still the best resolution on PC for speed, if you want to hit the all important 60fps anyway and maybe higher.. But not on all games, poorly optimized ones like Crysis still struggle. But i don't even play those games.

Oh the human eye can see 200-700 FPS depending on how you can quantify it. (of course we see light and not frames, but what corresponds to that many frames per second)

Air force studies have shown a pilot can see, recognize, and identify a plane in 1/220th of a second. From recognize to notice you can no doubt go much higher than that. As for light levels, it appears to human eye can discern somewhere in the 1/600 or more range.

In other words, the people saying we can't see more are morons.

Also another Richard Gere gerbil story is that you can't tell 1080p unless it's 42 inches or bigger, and thus for 4k it's something like 70 inches.

We can see more than 30 fps and you don't need a huge screen to enjoy higher resolutions.
